You do realize they want their name out more times than not right ? You do realize that reports come out everyday on ESPN from every where around the world about coaches, players, ownerships … high school sports is no different. Once they put in for a job …. they know their name is going to be out there and that comes with the territory and choice they made to apply . We can all agree to disagree I guess but there’s nothing un-ethical about his reporting no matter how you slice it. They are public employees, mostly anyway.

They know their name is going to be rumored around Tiptonville, but not expecting to be on a message board of which their current players and fans would probably look at. You're comparing a million dollar business in college football where coaches make millions dollars off rumors (example: Mike Norvell rumored to leave Florida State for Alabama. FSU gave him a well deserved pay raise.)

You're saying "they want their name out more times than not right" is pure speculation. I can't imagine Derek Carr's name to be rumored for the Lexington job on a message board. Thankfully, it appears that Lexington did a good enough job to try to keep that as privately as they could.

There's not a Jimmy Sexton in High School football. Ripley isn't going to give Cruise a pay raise just because he "interviewed" at a 1A school..

Either way, if you're going to send 4 teams from a district, do away with district tourney  and advance the top 4 finishers from the regular season. Make the regular season actually count. District tournaments are played on neutral courts there is no seeding advantage, especially when in competitive districts anyone can upset anyone in a one game scenario.

District Tournaments is not a mandatory thing from the TSSAA. TSSAA can careless about the district tournaments, as long as they have "four teams" from this district.

Ok folks here are the 5 candidates being interviewed for the lake Co head coaching job. Current LC assistant hunter short, current lake County middle school coach Ronnie Lanier, Ripley coach Justin Cruise, Cole Clanton current coach at Union City and an unnamed assistant from Trinity Christian Academy in Jackson. What's everyone's thoughts? Chime in!

I don’t know if coaches would appreciate their name getting out. I do appreciate your fandom!

His name was popping up a lot for Westview too , that man wanted out of there for some reason

I thought Milan had a little bit of a culture problem last year. I don’t want to get into too specifics, but I can see Carr leaving Milan.

I have to confess that I'm as lost as last year's Easter egg with your comparison between baseball and basketball... you say that baseball does it best and everything before regionals in basketball is useless when it's exactly the same format. Regular season record seeds teams for district tournament play, and tournament results seed the teams from both districts for regional matchups.

Maybe I should've done a better job of explaining as to why the baseball format is the best. Basketball is more of a "put 8 minutes on the clock, roll the ball out, and play."

The reason why I think baseball is more interesting is due to pitching strategy. If you go based on the district your team is in, one of the teams between Riverside, Adamsville, and Scotts Hill will make to the spring fling. You can even guarantee that two of those teams will make it based on the current format for this district/region in postseason play. I don't remember the seeding of y'alls district tournament last year, but the 1 seed would've played the winner of Bolivar/Madison (play in game) while the 2/3 seed would play each other. Therefore, the 2/3 game would likely used a #1 pitcher, where as the #1 seed would get the benefit of playing a team that already played a game, which assuming they would used their #1 pitcher already because of a single elimination game (Bolivar/Madison). Also, the home team gets the benefit of the last at bat.

The previous format for region play was the Monday (elimination game), Wednesday, and Friday (sub state game) format. What we witnessed was teams would used their #1 pitcher for that Monday game, may go number #3 pitcher for the Wednesday game (not an elimination game), but will used their #1/#2 pitchers for the sub state game on that Friday.

In the current format, the emphasis is more on a "pitching staff" and teams would burn their #1 in an opening regional tournament game, which is now not an elimination game. The strategy of how pitching, to me, is better. I hope that make sense!

  6. The baseball postseason style is the best because the district tournament means something. Also, the regular season during the baseball season is highly meaningful due to seeding to get in the tournament. But the region is also highly crucial due to pitching strategy.

Problem with basketball is the district tournament is basically useless, which means the regular season is useless in a way.

Honestly, I don't think the TSSAA cares about the district tournament. I don't think it's mandatory in a way. I believe they just want the "4 teams and their seedings" and play ball. Football is the only sport where they need the regular season for postseason play.

  7. Is Woodmore available for a job? I think he is perfect for a school like North Side. He can come in and be able to coach both football and baseball, but not as a head coach for either sport. However, both football and baseball at North Side needs another coach that can provide a different point of view from both aspects. The achillies heel for Woodrow Lowe is that he hasn't won a playoff game during his tenure as a head coach.

I don't know where JMCSS has when it comes to coaching stipend on a third assistant coach for baseball. I do now South Side usually have 2 (sometimes 3) assistant coaches in baseball, but North Side only has 1 for baseball.

Woodmore is a great guy that I respect dearly.

Yall will have a good squad coming back no doubt and Dyersburg lost a lot of senior starters. Westview has 8 starters coming back on a defense that only gave up 17 points a game. Our Middle Linebacker that recorded over 100 tackles the year before last  didn't see any playing time until last 3 games of the season due to injury, so he will be back. We have a ton of offensive talent that were just Freshman and Sophomores last year Including the best WR probably in West Tn . With Sipmson at Qb the next 2- or 3-years Westview is going to be dangerous.

Understand the optimism, but Dyersburg and Covington will still rule this region until Westview beats them in November. That's it!

By the way, did Jaylen Moseley transfer from JCS?

Why does Liberty seem to be the redheaded stepchild of the Madison Co School system

Just seems like they're always getting the short end of the stick. All this despite the school showing so much promise in its earlier years

Well, my friend, welcome to the political world. Where a school system had around 3,300 students 10 years ago. They chose to close one of their schools (JCM). The enrollment numbers throughout the county have dropped at the high school level from the present to now. But a certain group of people got mad and frustrated, and JMCSS caved in. Therefore, here comes JCM. And now, we have 4 high schools again. This time, the enrollment from the 4 high schools are around 2,600-2,700 students. (NOTE: exclude Madison from both of those enrollment numbers).

Jackson's biggest regret are several things: (1) I was informed a few months that a company wanted to install turf field to Liberty's field when they went to the state championship game a few years. Obviously, that company wants their name printed on the track around the stadium. JMCSS said no.

    (2) Reopening JCM was a regret, those students would be at Liberty.

What Jackson needs to do is to build two new high schools. Invest $200 Million in doing that because that's what it'll take to make them "state of the art" but they can't. They just won't. North Side and South Side is getting older by the minute.

  10. Somebody has to get the job. But hey, give it to the guy that has "experience" as a head coach (despite it wasn't good) and screw the assistant coach that maybe an "up and coming" head coach but doesn't have experience. This is where "head coaching experience" is massively overrated.

  11. Haven't had the chance to post on this so I will go ahead. I do like this hire for Humboldt. For Hayden Williams, it is currently a "lateral" job, but the chances to win will be higher than he was at Bolivar. I have no idea what's going on in Hardeman County, but I think it's a head scratcher to see both of their high schools in Bolivar and Middleton to have new principals over the Christmas Break. Another off the topic thing is the drive. There's not a "straight shot" from where Williams live currently to Bolivar. Going from Bolivar to Humboldt will cut off at least 1 hour each day for Williams. So, he can used that hour to either spend time with family, or still work with football.

Move on to Humboldt, I think the Vikings are getting a coach that will no their strengths and most importantly, personnel. If Humboldt has the personnel and the QB to throw the football, they'll throw it. If they have the offensive line and running backs to run the football, they'll run it. I don't think HS football coaches utilized their personnel enough. If the players and community can buy in and play good fundamental football, then Humboldt should be a good decent football team. Hayden Williams will care. He's not going to invest so much time for his team not to care. In region play, Williams will get the benefit from playing Covington, Dyersburg, and Ripley, to playing Lake County, Dresden, and New York City.

  12. Just the fact that Westview hired a coach that lost 71-50 to Waverly, gave up 31 to 1-9 Bruceton (Bruceton only scored 30+ just twice last year), 62-25 to Milan, 55-14 to Riverside 72-41 to Milan, 61-13 to Huntingdon, and 47-14 to Adamsville is surprising.

Camden's probably happy to pay for the real estate fees.

Little Simpson can pad his stats and throw for all the passing yards he wants to. It's not going to matter.

I have heard a few around West Tennessee that could potentially open up. One of the rumors I have heard is pending on a game tomorrow night..

I don't know if it's a good thing that one game can dictate a coaching move. However, I have a feeling what school this is..

  14. Don't let the 4-6 record from North Side to fool anybody, they haven't defeated a superior opponent. I don't think North Side is being utilized correctly offensively, I do believe they're lacking a QB that can throw the ball down field effectively. Can't score against good competition. The Indians will probably need to get to 35 to have a shot in this game. Unfortunately, I just don't see it. Marshall County appears to score a lot. I like the Tigers, 49-7.

All of which are quality opponents. I’m not saying nothing about any of the schools you named but obviously you just dislike UC and that’s fine. I was calling the teams quality opponents.

I don't dislike your Tornadoes, I want to make that clear. However, I'm not buying Union City. I do understand you do because you're a fan, I get that. If MASE scores 28 on Union City, then UC is in trouble because that means they have to score at least 29 (duh) to win. And when you look at what I just said, it's tough to UC to accomplish that. I understand Union City want to win 21-14 type ball games, but at some point, the points have to be put on the board against good competition. Unfortunately, they haven't in the last two years. I'm not ignoring those teams I mentioned are quality opponents, because they are.

And what quality opponents has Mase played THIS YEAR? Lausanne?

Let's not sit here and act like Gleason, South Fulton, Greenfield, Halls, and Humboldt are good. I'm glad Gleason went 6-4, I was on notice when they beat Fulton County, Perry County, and Bruceton this year. Greenfield had 3 wins this year, against an combined opponent record of 2-28. Humboldt has an SEC player on the team, but they went 0-10. Let's not sit here and act like Region 7-1A is the SEC here.

Is guess Dresden isn’t a quality opponent? We scored 28 on them and lost on a last second field goal. Please make sure you do your homework before you post. Last year we beat Westview in 2nd rd but I guess they weren’t a quality opponent either.

Union City won, 10-6. Then, they played Huntingdon the week after, and scored 3. Imagine scoring 13 points in the final two games? That's tough.

Oh, and by the way, y'all played USJ, Westview, and Huntingdon last year in the regular season, and didn't score 21 in a single game. But hey, scoring 56 on Houston County seemed like a fun thing to do.

Lets move on to this year, scored 6 against Ensworth (a team you thought Union City could win because they had more "heart"), the following week y'all made the trip down to Jackson and lost to USJ, only scoring 19. And I'll buy you a dessert at the Longhorn/Olive Garden (whatever restaurant) you want in Union City because y'all scored 28 on Dresden.

Are you noticing a trend here?
