  1. North Side, Lexington, and Hardin County lost a ton due to graduation. We all know Liberty lost their main 6 players and just hired a coach last month. Needless to say, there is not a clear cut team who wins this region this year. You can make an argument for all 4 teams to finish 1st, just as you can make the same argument for all 4 teams to finish 4th. It's a free game. Chester County lacks depth, South Side lacks talent.

Here is an article from the TFP about a shortage of officials.

    Shortage of Officials

The games in Memphis are moved to Thursday because there's not enough fields for games on Friday nights. In other words, the fairgrounds which is located right beside the Liberty Bowl. There will be a game on a Thursday and Friday. Same goes for Crump, J.P. Freeman, etc. They have been doing this for years. Not every school in Memphis has a football field. However, the school district in Memphis has added new charter schools where they have football teams.

Facilities don't mean jack squat with these athletes.  Ever been to South Gibson?  Nice facilities, .500 team.  TCA great facilities, not really able to build off prior success.

You looked at the wrong things coach.  I'll take a kid from the streets that's trying to get out any day of the week over a nice squat rack.  No one plays harder than these kids.  They sacrifice it all for their leader and coach.

If we fall off, it wont be because of the facilities, or even the administration.  Liberty has been overcoming those potholes for years with great leadership at the head of the football team.  If Liberty falls, it will be from a lack of leadership and character implemented by the head coach.

When you think of facilities, you think of one word...Pride!

JMCSS has failed their athletes and coaches because they don't know how to have pride into these schools. Pride is when the school district reward athletics team and indiviual athletes for their success. A tweet or a facebook post saying "Congrats to Liberty on advancing to Cookeville in football" carries little to no weight at all.

When you have a weightroom that's as big as a classroom, you have a problem. I don't care if it's Liberty or one of the smallest schools in the state, Bruceton. Facility wise, Liberty is actually blessed. Yes, they are the newest school. But y'all have the new metal bleachers, y'all have the track that surronds your football field. Restrooms are really nice compared to North Side and South Side, and you guys and South Side have concrete surronding the concession stand area while North Side simply have.....rocks.

South Gibson's problem is that they can't find a way to beat Milan, Dyersburg, Westview, and Crockett County consistently. Yes, they will beat one of those four once a year, but they can't find a way to beat three out of those four, each year.

TCA's problem is simply defense and staying healthy. And they know that!

Tyler Turner was going back near Arkansas anyway, regardless of what Liberty looked like. He used Liberty as a "stepping stone" for him.

Orenthus Taylor is a head stracher. He does not have a good resume. Assistant at Fayette Ware when they had a long losing streak, assistant at Haywood when I believe Coach Jackson was there, they weren't a good football team. Three years at JCM, record of 7-24, going 0-10 in the final season. Goes down to Trezevant as an assistant and won two state championships, but now centered around the grading scandle and all of that crap.

I didn't expect Liberty to get a Tyler Turner type coach but I've wondered if they could find someone that had a better resume than Taylor.

Back to the pride comment I said, I will add this into this just to show how much Liberty REALLY CARES about their athletes. I've heard from a valuable souce (as good as it gets) that Rodney Castille (the WR that won a track event at the spring fling in Murfreesboro) had to pay for his state championship ring that he won because LIBERTY didn't want to pay for his state championship ring. EXPLAIN THAT?!?!?!?!?!?

I think my Dawgs play Nirth Side week 1. But not sure. Might be week 2. Regardless will be a great test for us. We will have a stout running game. But we should find out just how good they are running against him and the rest of that Nirth Side d line!!!

It'll be Week 4-6 in that time frame. I honestly don't know but we open up with Germantown and Haywood.

  5. Three good ones...don't think SH is still in the conversation after Stroup moved on though. Not saying that "we" aren't, just haven't proven it. Milan and UC have to be mentioned with the three above, and with the addition of Stroup and Browder to USJ's proven crew, they will be included by everyone before long. Fayette Ware and Lexington have not produced results to match their talent level, IMO.

I picked Scotts Hill based off the past. Does SH have one of the best coaches staffs in 2017? Doubt it. But Stroup's turnaround in just 2-3 years is the reason why I mentioned Scotts Hill.

The same goes for Fayette-Ware. I understand that their region may not be as strong as other regions, but they won 7 games and guaranteed to make the playoffs for at least the next two seasons. Only difference between SH and FW is that FW doesn't have the playoff win yet.

Lexington, I completely agree with. Their results haven't matched up to the talent and expectation.

I would also include Bolivar and Liberty as well.

  6. My job is bringing me to Wilson county, my sons and daughter play baseball and softball, which school has the best program, please provide details

Do they have CoachF in Florida? I'm assuming you're from Florida because "Florida1" is your username.

  7. You are correct. I guess I just looked at it wrong. Thanks for keeping me straight.

On another note.... your a North Side fan?? I am looking forward to our game with you guys this year. Hearing you guys are really young. Give some insight.

First of all, thanks for scheduling us, it's good for West Tennessee football. But as I previously stated, we are a year away. Our schedule is significantly stronger. We added Germantown and Briarcrest along with Dyersburg. We also kept Haywood. Our players are young and good, but the most important position is the one position we will probably dread, and that's the QB position. I'll find out more in July in 7 on 7's. We still have like 100 days until 8/18. New coaching staff as well. McCauley is back as OC, we have a new DC as well.

  8. I think that Haywwod and North Side would be the toughest teams in your schedule. I would pick Haywood as the favorite to win your region with Dyersburg and North Side battling it out for second.

We're not in the same region as Dyersburg. Our region has Lexington, Liberty, Chester, South Side, and Hardin County. Could very well go 2-8/3-7 in 2017, make the playoffs, travel to Nashville and call it a season. I believe the Indians are one year away.

I like Dyersburg in every game except Haywood and Crockett, Brighton is a toss up.

  9. My biggest fear this year is that a team will ride that one arm on Monday and Friday, get to Murfreesboro, and after he throws his start, we may see a lot of crooked numbers?

That's the problem with this new pitch rule. If you have 1-2 really good districts, you can escape districts and make it to state, but those two pitchers will not let you win state. The production of the game can be ruined by that. Again, the TSSAA can careless about this rule, they just have to place this rule just so the TSSAA won't be sued by the NFHS. I honestly don't believe this rule actually limit arm injuries. Guess what? arm injuries are still going to happen regardless of how many pitches/days rest you want to have. I'm curious to hear coaches opinions about this.

  10. Crickets no more BigEd!

This hire is as odd and strange as it gets. Not saying anything negative about USJ or Coach Stroup, but it's odd.

First off all, throw the 24-22 record away. Something that will be on Stroup's resume but shouldn't. I'm looking at their 2013 season and it just looks bad. 2-8 with the wins coming against Middleton and Gibson County. But they had a stretch where they lost to Jackson Christian (42-0), Bruceton (48-8), TCA (55-7), and Riverside (39-0), just horrible football back then.

Now, looking at their 2016 schedule is so much better, Adamsville win in the playoffs, played Wayne County close, lost to Waverly by 6 in the playoffs, very impressive.

I hate to use this word because high school athletes only have 4 years to play, they are not professional athletes that signs these 7 years/$200 Million dollar contracts. Stroup's "rebuilding" is what got him at USJ, made the community of Scotts Hill proud, and made Lexington not as dominate. I mentioned Lexington because in 2010-2013 years, Lexington was in the argument as a top 3 team in West Tennessee, 10-2, 11-1, and I believe they went undefeated in one of those years. Now, the Tigers are a 7-3ish regular season team. I don't know if Scott's Hill recent success has a part of that, but not going to leave it out.

USJ did not hire the 'sexy' guy, but that doesn't they hired the 'right' guy. I think USJ had a reality check, realized that they probably weren't going to win a state championship in the immediate future. I'm assuming that USJ realize that he could be the guy that will get us to the top, even though the results won't come right away. Going to be odd for Stroup to be surrounded by houses at pratice and not corn fields that are miles and miles away. Not a bad hire at all!

  11. You couldnt have put it any better. I did hear that Jeffries was resigning or retiring so it should be open, but who would want it? The talent level in Jackson for girls is way down and the few girls that can play go to South Side where they can develop and win. They have 2 girls that possibly have potential and thats about it.

It has to start at the middle school level, which I'm 100% positive that middle school coaches in Madison County are coaching just to get a nice little paycheck, nothing more than that.

Here's what I've noticed. I firmly believe that the High School females athletes will struggle at the High School level if they don't play as a child growing up.I assuming NS girls didn't play basketball (AAU/MAYB, stuff like that) as a child and it is showing pretty bad, it's becoming with females that if you want to be successful athlete at the HS level, have to start early. I just believe NS girls has that problem.

With South Side, Brent McNeal has done a superb job getting that program from the bottom to the top. South Side alum that takes PRIDE in coaching football and girls basketball. Since Coach McNeal is still at a young age (mid 30's I believe), the players respect him, the players relate to them, more importantly, they get it and there's a chemistry between the South Side players and McNeal, that's why they're succeeding.

Yes, they have two athletes, speed and a post presence, decent 3 point shooting, that's all you need.

The problem with North Side is that they hired multiple coaches in the program since Faris Lowery days who has left the program in worse shape than entering the program. They had talent when Jada Perkins was there, they were a substate team, just couldn't get over the hump. Now, it's a disaster. There's no PRIDE in the North Side girls basketball program as well. Coach Jeffries is a old coach in terms of age, no chemistry and more importantly, no purpose. It will be a total rebuild starting with the upcoming Freshmen that will be entering the program. Step by step.

I didn't know for sure that Jeffries will announce retirement, I will say that AD Leonard Robinson will retire at the end of the school year.

  12. In West Tennessee it should be Haywood's to lose. Crockett County will be my sleeper team. I do like Liberty, but I don't expect them to be as big of a threat as they were last year. Hardin County has the potential to win that district. North Side lost 20+ seniors so they will have question marks for them, also changing pretty much they whole new coaching staff. Lexington, not expecting much from them unless they change their offensive scheme.

  13. To answer your question, Yes.  They are terrible!  Very little emphasis on women's basketball.

You're 100% right, they are terrible. They're losing games by 30+ points, sometimes by 40, maybe 50. They only averaged about 25-28 points offensively in a game, if they'll go crazy if they surpassed the 32 point mark. However, defensively, they give up 70+ points a night. There's no little emphasis to girls basketball, which is solely more team ball. I don't think they have the talent as well compared to the other schools that will be in their district next year. I would think they will turn the page and decide to start next school year with a new coach. Again, they only have 1 win in the last two seasons (win came against Millington in February who won two games this season, one of them coming against North Side). Crazy to think that 10 years ago, this team was in Murfreesboro year in and year out.

  14. Has anybody heard about Jackson North Side? Team has won a grand total of 1 game in the last seasons, their record is like 1-43 I believe. Moving into a new district that I believe there will be more team ball. Chester County, McNairy Central, and Lexington (and more) will be the new district. Just curious on what the future is at North Side.

  15. So Bradley left simply because he could not sale his house in Knoxville?

I was told he had trouble selling his house in Knoxville. But if coaches know that this will be USJ's third head coach in 3 years, that's not the best thing going on at USJ right now. Curious to see how many coaches will do their 'research' before having interest at USJ. However, it is April 21st, so there's not a whole heck of a lot of time left.

There's 118 days until August 18th. Take away 21 days due to the two scrimmages and the Jamboree, which is becoming pointless.

  16. Easier said than done... she will be at Haywood next year.

Haywood is actually an intriguing job, more intriguing than Independence in my opinion. Haywood is in a weak district, and region. If someone develops the middle school talent in Brownsville, they could find themselves playing in a sub-state game in more years than not.

I think the move had little to do with basketball. Independence is a better job than Haywood if you compare the two schools. In my opinion, this had more to do with home and location, than basketball itself.

  17. Will Marley return ?

That will be a no. USJ ended Marley's tenure because they wanted to win a gold ball, which is something they didn't do during Marley's tenure.

They had the guy to take them to the promise land in Bradley, but Bradley couldn't sell his house in Knoxville and there was an open door for him to come back home, which he did.

The only reason they would go back to Marley is if USJ realizes that the grass isn't always greener on the other side (it's greener where you water it!!!!).

USJ is still an attractive job, but coaches are starting to realize that they can win a state championship that the school they're at now just as easy as winning one at USJ.

USJ will go through that complete search, watch them hire a guy from like...I don't know....North Dakota, because that's something USJ would do.

  18. It's really pointless and really.....just pointless. And here's why. FROM A PLAYER'S PERSPECTIVE!!!

Schools usually play their district ball games around 6/6:30 local. Seven-inning game, it probably will be done about 8:15-8:30 local time. The road team will probably go find a place to go eat after, the home team (players) will probably get something to-go and take it home, eat at home, or just grab something from the concession stand (it just depends).

If the road team gets something to eat, then they're leaving that town when the home team players are probably at home. An hour plus drive puts the road team at a serious disadvantage, especially if their school starts at an earlier time than the opposing team.

Example: Hardin County is playing at Munford tonight. The difference between Hardin County High School and Munford High School is a 2 hour and 12 minute drive. 6:30 start time, 7 innings, game finished about 8:15-8:30 or even later. It'll probably be near 9:15 PM when Hardin County leaves Munford. 2 hour+ drive, it won't be until midnight when Hardin County players get some sleep, but the Munford players (if they're smart) should be in bed by 10:45 the latest.  And we all know that an hour plus of sleep is important. Both teams play at Hardin County on Tuesday the 4th. It won't effect Munford as much because they probably won't have a game on Wednesday.

I'm making an excuse but it is something that we should considered. How can you manage your time and understand that rest is important, especially with High School athletes. Besides, it's baseball! You're going to lose to teams that you shouldn't lose to and you will win against teams that you probably shouldn't beat. That's why I laugh at these rankings, especially for baseball.

  19. I am confident that Region 7 will have at least 5 teams with a winning record this season. That means a good football team is going to be left out come

playoff time. That's too bad because that 5th place team would lay waste to

several teams that will make the from weaker regions. JMO.

Can we just skip the summer and get straight into mid August?

    Who's your 5th team?

  20. funny you bring up the Milan game. A friend and I were discussing that game yesterday. I am not short changing USJ athletes but Milan should have handled them. I believe the coaching is what kept them in there. But also their talent also. USJ lost a lot this year. No more Trey no more Peel and a few other key players. And no Bradley now. Where does USJ go now. How many gold balls is not the question now. The question. Ow is how does USJ stabilize the program without stud athletes and no coach. What happens now with spring practice. What system do they use on offense, who coaches the line because there are big shoes to fill. And that is key to protect the QB. A lot of questions.

No I don't think USJ will win a gold ball in the immediate future. They lost T. Smith, Peel (half of their D-Line), and Wells Smith (probably their best receiver statistically) and a nice supporting cast.

They have some talent. Buie and Ryan Miller (WR I believe) are good football players, might want to add Laird in there at the safety position. Can't forget about Campbell, their kicker. Other than that, not much.

I mentioned a few days ago that their middle school program is down compared to what it was a few years ago. They don't have that "athlete" that other middle school programs have, they had a hard time stopping the run, and they were out sized and beat physically, couldn't keep up.

I looked at their schedule for the next two seasons and I've noticed D-1 teams are on it. It'll give us a identity where USJ will currently stand. Schedule wise:

    They'll probably beat Chester County

They'll probably lose to Crockett County (I'm expecting Jordan Branch to have a huge senior season for CC, throw the 2016 Crockett County Cavs away, unfair game since the first week).

They'll lose to Haywood and St. George's (Haywood is the best team in West TN right now).

    Everything else are wins/toss ups.

Also, I have been slacking and not looking at their classification throughout the whole state since the new alignment. They can't compete with CPA if CPA is in their new class, which there's a good chance that USJ will play CPA in November.

If USJ plays Milan on August 18th, 2017 (I think 8/18 is the opening night) Milan would probably win by 17-21. I don't think what they have coming back can replace what they lost.

I don't think the USJ administration feels like going through a huge search to bring a guy in, but who knows. They have the facilities and money to do it, we all know that.
