  1. There is an umpire shortage across the entire U.S.  Soon, many of your varsity games will be called with 1 umpire due to the shortage.  Instead of getting on CoachT and griping, why don't you join in and umpire to help alleviate this problem?

I can tell that you are an umpire. I don't think there is really an umpire shortage in the U.S. There may be some in states, but not in the whole country.

  4. U not a real fan

It's pretty evident and clear that I believe you are one of three things:

    1) A student at Middleton High

    2) someone that just got out of High School

    3) someone that doesn't 'proofread' what he/she (talking about you) every time you want to make a post about anything here on CoachT.

Before I go any further, I do want to say that I've been on CoachT in the past. Intense and BigEd might want to take a swing for the fences and guess who I am.

Let's be clear, I've never seen Intense or BigEd called out players in a negative way. Called out teams? Probably. But not players.

There's a line in towards of respect that you need to show and have here on CoachT, you probably have not received the memo about that. Here's your chance.

The thing that is scary about posting here on CoachT is knowing that it is not private, so you have to watch what you say. All a player has to do is hear a little rumor about some anonymous person talking bad about the player, and the iPhone opens, the safari app is on, and you know the rest.... Not Much....Confidence can be ruined.

I'm not in my feelings or anything like that, I've actually had a good day so far!

Meanwhile, I still believe Dresden and Huntingdon will reach Murfreesboro. I love #12 defensively for Dresden. Huntingdon's is a good team, just afraid they have ran out of gas.

  5. If they go D-1 with the multiplier it is over!!!!

I don't think Sacred Heart is even a TSSAA member in football.

Sacred Heart is one of those schools that could benefit from 8-man football, but let's keep in mind that they have been a successful 8-man team, I'm assuming they're ready to take that next step to 11-man football due to roster increase. Sacred Heart's next decision is to either install lights to their field at St. Mary's or play on Thursday's at a high school or play at the football field off Hollywood. They are fighting daylight issues (especially in October) and having to use portable lights. I know installing new lights are expensive for schools.

I don't think South Fulton, Lake County, and Bruceton would ever drop to 8-man football. Bruceton was a playoff team last year, Lake County was in it until the last game against Humboldt, South Fulton is in a tricky situation because of Union City. I don't think those 3 teams ever drop big enough in terms of team population to 8-man, besides, Bruceton has some good size anyway and Lake County (according to their people) is suppose to improve next year.

I could see Greenfield and Gleason go to 8-man, but it may be unrealistic.

I hope Sacred Heart is taking that next step in going to 11-man football! I wish them nothing but the best of luck!!!

  6. Guys lets give up on the talks of umpires having anything to do with keeping track of the pitch counts in that game or previous games.

Here's how this will go - close play anywhere that goes against the home team. It extends the inning, runs score and HT loses the lead. Now at the end of that half inning you really want the guy who made that call to walk over to the dugout of the team seeing red to talk about pitch counts?

That's just one problematic situation of many.  Dugouts/official scorers will track it just like they tracked post-season innings pitched rules in the past. If there's an issue, it'll be handled after the game by the people imposing the rules in the first place.

I'm not a big fan of the rule and here's why.

There is this thing that is called 'extra stress pitches.' What I mean by that is when a defensive player makes an error that should've been an out, when 2 outs come, any pitch that is thrown becomes a 'stress pitch.' Add pitches to the pitch out.

That is the same that goes for umpires. When it is a 3-2 count 2 outs, ball 4 that should've been called a strike, any pitch after is a 'stress pitch.' Took the pitcher four pitches to get through the next batter, coaches will get mad because it added four pitches to the pitch count, which would be extremely valuable when May comes.

  7. Really was impressed with Dresden tonight. #12 played physical all night on Greenfield's Moore, and I don't think Moore could respond with an adjustment. I like Dresden's size, it matches up well with Huntingdon, I believe the guard play will be key on Tuesday night. Interesting to see how things will shape out in McKenzie on Tuesday. Yes, Dresden and Huntingdon played 3 times this year and the differential margin has gotten smaller each time.

Greenfield didn't make shots tonight, but their future is as bright as the sunglasses emolji.

I thought Peabody had a chance to beat Huntingdon, but their 3rd quarter was just as (if not more) sloppy than the Fillies' which killed their chances. This region is hard!!!

  8. This rule is mandated by NFHS/TSSAA and should not be on the coaches to keep up with in my opinion.  TSSAA is just asking for problems if that's how it's going to be.  The field umpire should be keeping track of pitches then recording them for each pitcher as a game official/official pitch counter.  Field umpire should be watching every pitch anyway so don't see why they can't do the following

Write down pitcher's name and number along with pitches thrown each inning.  Communicate to both head coaches in between innings.  It's simple really and Little Leagues all across the country have been doing it for years.

You will have a coach in a close game against a rival school or two schools playing for something like district title and see what happens....one will have 90 and the other will have 100.

I bet "official pitch counters" will be used at Spring Fling so why not have "officials" do it all year long. Just my two cents

The umpires have no fight in the pitch count, and they shouldn't. Putting additional responsibility on the field umpires to keep a pitch count is useless, especially since a team manager or a Freshman that doesn't get any playing time can keep it, it's not hard. But to sit here and believe that a field umpire should keep up with two separate pitch counts is not the best scenario to go to.

The responsibility should go to the coaches, and if one made a mistake, they'll ask their opponent. Coaches don't care, if one team makes a mistake and losses the pitch count by 3 pitches, the opposing team would probably careless and let those guy have the 3 pitches and move on. If the coaches aren't best buddies than the umpires would probably get involve and then we could have a protest so on and so on.

Will 3 additional pitches really give a pitcher Tommy John? An arm injury? A shoulder injury?

Yes, safety of the game is important, but when the coaches get used to this rule they can careless. Just because it's a rule doesn't mean it will be enforced.
