  1. I know there aren't a lot of posters on here from either school but did anyone attend the game?  Had a Brentwood parent complaining that it went way past being chipping to downright dangerous.  I watched it on tv and know that it must have been a dirty hit on #4 for Coach Crawford to be that upset but the parent said that they heard that they contemplated not coming back out after half.  It sounds crazy to me and probably just sour grapes but I want to get someone else's take on it that might have been there.  Take into consideration that the parent also told me that the game was closer than the score which I  totally disagree with.

  2.

One more thing, having attended almost all of those scrimmages and games with Brentwood in my opinion the reason for the dip in record recently was a talent drop off especially up front on both sides of the ball. You couple that with the best Ravenwood team in 10 years, the best Blackman team ever, one of the best Oakland teams ever, the best CPA team ever and a 9-1 Hville team. The previous coach really helped set you up for failure in 13 and 14.

Ding, Ding, Ding...We have a winner, as good as Crawford is if he came back when Pemberton left he wouldn't have won 1 or 2 more than Woodward did, if that.  Tough schedules and lack of talent can make anyone look bad.  Just don't tell the parents in control that their kids don't have talent or they will fire you.

  3. It will be interesting to see how long it takes Crawford to pry the program back from the parents who have been running it since he has been gone.  I would say that it is unlikely that they will co-exist.  Woodward was just a scapegoat for a tough schedule and the least talented team Brentwood has had in years, but that is hard for parents to realize when you're talking about their kids.

I'm sure Crawford will be diplomatic but no way the program will be run the same way it was while he was gone.  Moving out of 6A will help more than anything along with better talent moving up.  He is great coach and they will have instant success but that's not saying the same wouldn't have happened with Woodward.

  4. Classy group. MY only negative is your band playing while Maryville had the ball while at the band end of the field.  In all the years of watching college and high school football, I have never seen or heard a band in full session while play was going on the field. You have great group of people at Ravenwood. Good luck in the future.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of that either but you are seeing it more and more.  I guess bands are doing it after seeing others do to their team.  Being a larger stadium you don't notice it as much because I didn't hear Ravenwood's band but Maryville band did it as well, being across from them I could hear them.  Maryville probably doesn't hear much because they are in control of most games early and often.  In Memphis Whitehaven's band was rockin' until we took control of the game and you didn't hear a note.

  5. They won but they weren't the toughest

i told you we had faced back fields as good or better than yours. You saying we weren't the toughest is subjective. The fact that you scored your first offensive td with less than two minutes remaining is objective! Don't give the three turnover crap, your "D1" qb was baited into the picks by the best D you've seen this year, the FACTS back that up!
  6. Even the Whitehaven contingent will agree that this years edition of the Whitehaven Tigers hasn't won pretty. But, they have always found a way to win in spite of not playing their best football. The scary part is that their best football has yet to be played. If they put it all together on Friday night then they will be playing for another Gold Ball for sure. If they don't put it all together, they still could and should win. Where as I believe that Ravenwood will have to play a perfect game and Whitehaven not play well for Ravenwood to leave Memphis with a W. I have seen other editions of the Tigers dominate regular season games and then lose in the first round of the playoffs. This team has a special leader (QB) and it's going to take a very special team to beat them.

Have you seen Ravenwood play or any tape on Ravenwood?  I've seen WHS tape through the playoff and they must be better than they look on tape b/c they aren't so much better than RHS that they have to play bad and RHS play good for Ravenwood to get the win.  I don't see anything on tape that makes WHS look like a far superior team.

  7. Franklin and Ravenwood play a lot of seniors and both have a lot of seniors with talent. Both will be down next year but still should be competitive.  Franklin will be replacing a three year starter at quarterback and Ravenwood will only have about 5 total returning starters.

  8. Rematches can cause issues but I feel like RHS is much more well rounded on offense and Ravenwood's defense is playing really well.  If CHS can keep the scoring low they have a chance but if there is much scoring I don't think CHS's secondary can hang with Ravenwood's talented WRs.  Props to Centennial and their coaching staff they've put themselves in position to make a run to the state championship, something not people were talking about 13 weeks ago.

    I'll predict:

    RHS 27

    CHS 14

  9. Hester will be the next coach after winning State title at R'wood this year.

If it going to take Hester winning the state to return to Brentwood then he won't be going.  RHS may very well make it to the finals but if they win it all Hollywood should come calling because it will be an upset for the ages to win over Oakland, Blackman or Maryville.

I'm not sure what would be Hester's motivation to coach or what his family would want him to do but winning and/or winning state would be easier at Brentwood.  They will be in a smaller classification, their young talent is better and the support is a little stronger.  Ravenwood has the most talent they have had since they won it all ten years ago and most of it is graduating.  Couple that with the fact that in 2 years they won't be getting Nolensville boys any more unless Ravenwood can get back to 5A they are going to have a tough time.

There are positive and negatives to both to both schools, I hope the one with the most weight will be the relationships he has created with the young men over the last 2 years and he will stay put.  If he decides to go I hope he realizes that the parents who are courting him now will turn on him like a snake if they or their kids don't get what they want.

  10. Hendersonville will take this one. The cold weather will effect the passing game of the Cougars. The Commandos have too many horses in the back field.

You don't have to worry about Centennial's passing game, one good receiver and that is it, QBs are way below average.  They have a couple of work horse backs though, they are tough, run hard and get better as the game goes along.  I think HHS will win but I also thought Franklin would have taken them out last Friday.

  11. BHS admin athletic friendly, really? In recent years they got rid of the baseball coach that brought so much success to the program. Wonder what he thought. Wonder what Woodward thinks. How can you say athletically friendly after they do this to Woodward. I think they already have a coach. I may be wrong but why else would you not give a coach more time.

I agree they may already have a coach.  What they did to Coach Waggoner is very similar to this situation, folding to parents.  What I meant by being more athletic friendly than RHS is that they think sports play an important role in the school community, pretty sure Dr. Vaden doesn't believe this as much.

  12. Don't think Hester would leave. Whittemore is someone that I thought about for the job.

I don't think he would leave either but with the district realignment, up coming talent and most of all, the fact that BHS administration is a much more athletic friendly group, I wouldn't be shocked or really blame him.  He probably has gone a long way in changing the attitude towards athletics at RHS but I can't really say.  However, it wouldn't surprise me if they hire someone while his team is still playing this year.

  13. My gut tells me WAY to much parental involvement.  This is not the MO of Coach Sig or the administration, they are typically somewhat patient and have years and years of experience.  These overly involved parents come out of these youth leagues, in this case the Blaze, where they have a lot of control and just can't step back once their kids get into middle and high school.  It's actually a sad situation if you take a step back and look at it not only from the fact that they have gotten rid of a good man/coach but come on, get a life!

On the other side of the coin I think Brentwood is in pretty good shape in that the talent is improving and the district realignment will remove a lot of teams with more talent so they won't have to compete with Ravenwood, Franklin or the most of the Rutherford schools.  If Coach Crawford isn't happy in East Tennessee I could see a scenario of him coming back, but I could see them making a run at an alumnus or two, i.e. Hester or Whittemore.

  14. From what I understand it is geography.  They take the 32 to qualifying teams and move from east to west or west to east and split them up in groups of 8.  If the playoff started tomorrow Mt. Juliet would have the honor of playing Blackman 1st round in quad 2.

  15. Brentwood will have to catch some breaks i.e. turnovers, calls and the ball bouncing right to hang around.  Last year's game was close but Brentwood was a lot more talented last year and Ravenwood is more talented this year.  But this is a rivalry game and that could make a difference.  I know the Ravenwood players are tired of hearing from Brentwood that Van Jefferson is their only good player and quite a few will be out to prove them wrong.
