  1. Oakdale didn't look like they wanted to be on a basketball court. Got it handed to them by a vastly inferior Anderson County team. To be honest, it was hard to watch. The girls have NO intensity or grit to them at all. Guards aren't driving, posts weren't crashing, etc. If they have another game like that, they lose out the rest of the year. Gotta correct the effort by Monday.
  2. Oakdale-Campbell County was a fun game. Oakdale came out and looked BAD. They got down by as much as 16 in the second quarter. During a timeout, a Campbell County fan got into it with Mel Steinmetz (we all know who Mel is surely) in a loud verbal exchange across the gym. Oakdale immediately stormed back to cut it to single digits. Oakdale then slowly clawed the final few points out in the second half. Oakdale won 63-60 on a buzzer beater from 25ft out as time expired by Brady Bingham. Oakdale led 1-0, then did not lead until the shot went through the net after the buzzer sounded. If that fan doesn't get into it with Mel, Oakdale loses. Haha.
  3. Those kids all played AAU I imagine. I bet they'll handle the multiple games in a similar fashion lol. Oakdale plays Campbell County today
  4. Up early to watch Oakdale at Anderson County. Need to see some urgency from the Lady Eagles today
  5. Exactly. A district loss for either school changes the entire landscape of the district tournament. Does the TSSAA have a policy on how schools are supposed to handle something like this?
  6. I'd love to be at that game for sure!
  7. Coalfield didn't win though. The game didn't finish. I'd say they'll get together on a Saturday and play or finish it before the next game. Definitely a weird situation for sure.
  8. And shoutout to them for the district win tonight. That's HUGE for them. I loved seeing that final.
  9. Ah, that makes more sense. Used to happen at Rockwood a lot. At least the county saved about $20 on air conditioning tonight!
  10. Court had too much moisture on it. Players were sliding everywhere. Talked to some Oakdale players & they said it was awful out there. Coalfield got a new court design this summer. That had to have something to do with it.
  11. I had Coalfield as my preseason #1. They scared me for a few games. I thought Oakdale could give them a game, or possibly upset them. Hate to hear that for my Lady Eagles. Hope we right the ship. Need to get revenge on OS & get a win against Wartburg or they could be going home early this year
  12. Coalfield 69 Oakdale 43 Final Dang. I did NOT expect that at all. What happened? Did Coalfield look that good or Oakdale that bad? Sounds like it was never a game. I wasn't able to make it.
  13. ....and the Lady Eagles are down 41-10 to Coalfield at halftime.
  14. I watched Oneida at Oakdale. To me, they didn't look helpless, Oakdale was just plain more talented. They definitely are lacking talent, but it's not so extreme that they are without a chance. I played at Oakdale from 2009-2013. My senior year we won one game. I know exactly what those kids are going through right now. It is truly a terrible feeling. They all know how to play the game, but they just don't have the guns to compete with the likes of Oakdale and Wartburg. As cliche as it sounds, those kids need to know that the community has their back. It's hard to go out and play when you can feel that nobody supports you. I imagine that the community is behind them, but don't jump down their throat for losing to good teams. Also, I don't think everybody should jump immediately on a young coach. Coach Nelson at Oakdale went from 1 win to a district championship in three seasons. Every coach has to start somewhere. He is having growing pains (just like every coach ever has had). In my opinion, it boils down to one thing: this is Oneida's second season without a Cole West, Jake Wright, or Cody Carsons type of player in a very long time. It happens at a single A school. They have a lot of guys that know how to play the game, but don't really have a stellar all-district type of player to lead the charge.
  15. If you watched them in the beginning of the year, you would've seen a team that didn't look very "inspired." I think they realized they're beatable after starting off 1-5. Haha. Talent and coaching are both there, and now I think they've found the motivation to play again. If anybody from District 4 can challenge Meigs or Grace, it'll be Oakdale.
  16. Yeah, that SOS list is kinda pointless. Oneida played a group of studs to start off the year
  17. Tonight's games: Oakdale at Coalfield I try to not be biased to the Lady Eagles, but I've got a good feeling about them tonight. Give me Oakdale by 5 in the upset. (They've proved my gut feeling wrong twice this year, though. Haha) Jellico at OS OS just has too much. OS by 25 Sunbright at Oneida Oneida stays focused and wins handily. Oneida by 21 Wartburg at Rockwood Would like to see this game. I'll take the Lady Dawgs by 11
  18. Defending district champions that lost one district game all of last year and brought everybody back. Didn't lose a single senior. Have two 1,000 point scorers and another in Jackson Hicks who is well on his way. They played stiff competition at the beginning of the year. Even with them playing the teams that they did, I definitely didn't expect them to start off the way they did. They've recovered from the bumpy start, even if it was against bad teams. They're the most loaded team in 4A.
  19. Tuesday's Predictions: Jellico at OS: OS wins handily, I say by 24 Oakdale at Coalfield Coalfield keeps it close, but the Eagles win by 7 Sunbright at Oneida I want to see Oneida win this one. They're the underdog, and I think they get it done. Oneida by 5 Wartburg at Rockwood Wartburg will be too much for the Tigers. Wartburg by 13
  20. A fast-paced game is exactly what Oakdale wants, though. Oakdale plays a run & gun, press, chaotic type of game. Coalfield will have to slow it down if they hope to beat Oakdale.
  21. Coalfield-Oakdale Tuesday! Who's everybody got? I think Coalfield gives Oakdale everything they can handle, but I just can't see them taking down Oakdale just yet. It will be a shootout for sure. Oakdale 84 Coalfield 77
  22. Oakdale didn't play great, but still beat Oneida by 27. A lot of dumb turnovers. Just a sluggish night. They should be fine for Coalfield next week. Can't wait for that game. I really hope I can make it! Oneida at Oakdale photos for any parents, family, etc. Free to download or share https://flic.kr/s/aHskqVkdGf
  23. Oneida at Oakdale was a fun game. This was a tale of two halfs. Oneida jumped on the Eagles in the second quarter. Oakdale looked like they couldn't hold a basketball. Thought it was going to be a 30 point blowout honestly. Halfway through the third, the Eagles were down by as much 17 I think before they stormed back in the fourth to tie the game with 2:30 left in the fourth. Oneida showed their poise and stayed cool under the pressure. They made a few key plays late and pulled away to win by 6. Oakdale looked a million times better than they did the last two games. Hopefully the confidence gained from being a few shots away from taking down the #1 team in the district will propel them next week as they get Coalfield. My photos from the game if any parents, family, etc want them. Free to download/share: https://flic.kr/s/aHskr1sUHn
  24. I'm not 100% sold on mine. Just a feeling haha. Your ranking definitely makes sense though. My reasoning: Coalfield has been a bit underwhelming to start the year. They've definitely righted the ship, but still. Didn't like their awful start. OS still doesn't look "great" yet, but better than I expected them to at this point. They handily beat Oakdale, but didn't look good doing it (if that makes sense). I personally can't penalize Wartburg for losing to the #1 team in the district. However, you make a good point in saying OS over them. Even though it wasn't pretty, they do have a double-digit win against a district opponent.
  25. OS lost to McMinn on a shot with 1.2 seconds. Looks like I got one crazy pick sort of right. I said they'd keep it closer than you'd think. I thought they'd lose by 9 though. OS is not a bad basketball team. Can't judge them based on the Oakdale game, as Oakdale played ridiculously good and could not miss anything. Oakdale is on a tear right now and Wartburg is definitely playing very extremely well despite being down a starter. Coalfield will have a tough week next week. Still not in 100% rhythym and lost a starter. Their second matchup with each team will be much better
