  1. My front runner right now is Coalfield. Though they lose Layne, they return a lot of guard power along with Foster and Berry down low. They aren't too far ahead though. I didn't see Oneida or Jellico any this summer, though I imagine Oneida will be rather good. Oakdale may lose Fred Snow this year, because he took a job with the Central Office and a law in the school system states you can't work there and coach (I think).

    I have it:

    1. Coalfield- Good, balanced team. Depth is an issue

    2. Oneida- Returns size & good guards (I think)

    3. Wartburg- Good, balanced team. Still have Olivia Hamby. Melton is sneaky good in the post, don't think she was used enough last year.

    4. Oakdale- Surprise team IMO. Loses two starters, but Everett & Coffey are capable scorers. Davidson (5'8") will be returning from an injury that sidelined her most of last season. Calling it now, Kaylee Headen will be the surprise star of the team. She can PLAY

    5. OS- Looked human again in summer after 10 straight years of dominance. NEVER doubt a Michelle Christopher team though

    6. Sunbright- Has a good core, but the supporting cast will hurt. Stephens was hurt this summer, so I didn't see their whole team.

    7. Jellico- Didn't have much last year, but should be improved with this coaching staff having another year under the belt

  2. Can anyone give me information about Harriman? What kind of team and talent do they have? How is the administration in regard to coaches. Is it a program where the parents dictate things or are they supportive? How is there football program? Don't know much about them other then what's posted on here.

  3. Could be the case....this district is pretty weak, but I'm not sure Midway is much of a measuring stick. Coalfield beat them with a ton of players missing .... Midway's only wins are barely beating sunbright and mt pisgah. Midway is a candidate for bottom dweller in that region. To me, the questions are: can layne coach wburg into the top 3, Or is the talent just too low.?...And how good will the football players make CField in a couple weeks? If neither of them are a lot better in a month, then Oakdale will be in the mix for top 3.

I learned last year to not count out Wartburg lol. It'll definitely be tougher for them this year, but I can't automatically write them off. I do think Coalfield's football players make a huge difference. The Carter games aren't really relevant in my opinion (they score 100+ on everybody lol). I like Oakdale if they learn how to stop people. Caywood still had 26 on them last night, and Bolin abused them last week.

  4. BOLD STATEMENT: If Oakdale learns to play defense they will run through the district. They have blown out Midway (Region foe) twice this year. They've been scoring 80+ points consistently. With that being said, they scored 83 (I think) on Jellico and lost. Any of their first 6 players can score 20+ on any night. They HAVE to learn to play defense though. They can beat the lower teams in the district by outscoring them, but to win it all they have to be able to stop opponents.

  5. My round 1 predictions:

Oneida: I bet "1st round bye" doesn't even score on Oneida

OS vs. Wb: Wartburg gets a big game from Kilby and advances. OS's crowd will be a factor, but still taking Warburg to win by 8

Cf vs. Oak: Oakdale hasn't shown me enough defense to win in the tournament. Expect big things from Hill & Johnson. Heart says Oakdale, eyes & brain say Jackets. Coalfield by 12

JHS vs. SHS: Sunbright shocks the district! ....almost. Loses a close, low scoring game. Jellico by 6

  6. Tonight (Tuesday the 4th) was definitely an exciting night in the district. Oakdale picked up a huge win over Wartburg in a nail biter and Coalfield controlled the District-Champion Oneida Indians most of the night to cruise to a win. Heard Sunbright was up on OS in the 3rd but haven't seen a final. I watched Oakdale in their loss against Oneida the other night. Oakdale has been sliding recently, but after watching them play I still seriously think they can do damage in the tournament. They can score, the offense looks good, and nobody is really trying to ballhog the game away. However, their looming problem is defense. Defense wins championships (See: Seattle Seahawks). Oakdale can score with anybody, but anybody can score on them. Both Oneida and Wartburg almost hung 90 each on the Eagles.

The tournament will be awesome this year. Oneida has proved that it has the best player in the district in Cole West, but he definitely has a supporting cast behind him. Jellico looks strong, and with a few good shooting nights in a row, the district could be theirs. Coalfield showed they can take down the giant easily. Wartburg, OS, and Oakdale are all capable of beating anybody any given night. I guarantee no coach wants to play Sunbright in the 1st round. I know their record doesn't show it, but give Coach Maxfield and the players up there some credit. Sunbright in 1st round with anybody will be a battle, and it wouldn't surprise me a bit if they ended up winning.

    Go Eagles!

  7. Very surprised with Oakdale's district play recently.  Wartburg beat them handily last Friday (A game I had Oakdale winning) & the Eagles lost to Sunbright tonight to give the Tigers their first win of the year. I knew Sunbright's first win was coming, but I didn't expect it to be Oakdale. Will be interesting to see how the team faces adversity in the coming games with a young core of players. I hope the best for them & Coach Nelson. I still believe they have the talent to win the district, they just have to recover from these few games soon, rather than freaking out and turning into a group of individuals.

  8. I've seen Oakdale multiple times this year, and they are definitely a contender for the district championship. An outside chance, but I think they have the talent and coaching. Coach Nelson now has a year under his belt, and that has made a HUGE difference. They still struggle with help defense, so good point guards give them fits (Phillps from Monterey & Bolin from Jellico both had great games against the Eagles). Haven't seen any other district teams live, but I keep up with them closely. Colyer Hicks is the sleeping giant for Oakdale.

    Right now I have it:

    1. Jellico

    2. Oneida

    3. Oakdale

    4. Oliver Springs

    5. Coalfield

    6. Wartburg

    7. Sunbright

Remember this is VERY EARLY in the season, I'm sure this will change a lot in the coming weeks.
