  1. correction, the Baylor kid did not get off of his back. The referee stopped the match because of an infraction by the Baylor kid. The referee let him off of his back with 56 seconds left and in the match with a tight headlock. (12 point swing in the match)
  2. page 40 section 3: If wrestler A has wrestler B on his back and Wrestler B "grasp the clothing" of wrestler A, the match should be stopped immediately. Really, this is wrestling 101. There needs to be some way to qualify referees before putting them in over their heads.

So that is 5 current DI starters from Public schools and 1 D1 starter from private shools.
  4. so is JPII. Some people are saying that JPII will surpass Father Ryan as the Catholic wrestling program of choice within the next two years.

Is there any truth about Hamilton at 145 and dooley at 160 both going to 152. That would be worth the price of admission. Dooley wins 13-5.

Interesting, You may know more than I do, but as far as I know, DII only has 1 kid starting right know in NCAA division I (Mosley at American). DI has two kids starting at UTC right now (boykin, Lewis/smith, if Schrader wasn't hurt you would have three and then Croy at Harvard. so as I see it that is 4 kids that actually won wrestle-offs and starting at the DI level for Public and one for private. "Not.... would of...... should have.... could off" All these guys actually won their wrestle-off and made the starting line-up. sure some other kids will get to wrestle here and there, but I'm talking about making the varsity line-up.

No way, CBHS nor McCallie were ever even in the top 4 in their Region9S) (Memphis & Chattanooga) until after the split. It is not a knock on any team. Just the fact that when you have to wrestle 5 matches in a tournament when anyone is capable of beating you. Good wrestlers always got upset...even in the Regions and did not even qualify for the state. When it was a "carry tournament" if you had one bad match or "got caught", youe went home. I remember in the early 80's there was a kid from Nashville (Overton or McGavock) that was the # 1 kid in the state and got pinned by a kid from MBA in the Regional and then that kid got beat... so the #1 kid was eliminated and did not even qualify for the state (carry tournaments can be brutal). The only reason I remember this is there was a big controversy on wheatear the MBA kid threw the match so the #1 kid would not get to go to state. I think a Baylor kid did won the weigh class but had been beat soundly by the kid in the dual that didn't even qualify.

It will never happen! It has been brought up in the past. DII schools will not go back to having only a couple of state place winners every year like it used to be. Having 14 kids qualify for the state tournament helps them from a financial stand point and makes parents happy. Think back when the state tournament was dominated by Overton, Cleveland, McGavock, Franklin, Bradley, Central, East Ridge, and Hixson. McCallie and Ryan were never on the map until the split and usually only had 3 or 4 kids even qualify for the state tournament. You had to place in the top four in your district to make it to the Region and then place in the top four in the region to make it to the State tournament. Only 4 kids placed in the state. You also only had 12 weight classes...so you only had 12 state champs and 48 total place winners. Now you'll have 42 state champs, and 252 state placers. Think about that...48 total place winners before and 252 NOW. More state place winners then there were Regional place winners in the past. Prior to the split only 192 kids even qualified for the state and now you have 252 "ALL-State" Sure Baylor had some tough teams, but when the tougher kids were knocking each "other off", you had to wrestle every match and everyone you wrestled in your bracket was tough, it was hard for them to compete with even East Ridge & Hixson (small school division). Wish it would happen but it won't!
