  1. yes he is. he is the brother of 2012 195 pound state champ Franklin Garstin of MBA. he just hasnt been able to break the lineup because of tough team competition. He wrestled some dual matches last year when coach Simpson saw fit, and he has done a lot of growing this past year and is a HAMMER and will be starting once his injury from football season is healed.
  2. everyone wants to root for their team and believe in them because they know the kids individually. this goes for you Mr. West and for WesternWrestler, whoever his team may be. cleveland and father ryan appear to be evenly matched and baylor is just a little ahead of them at the moment. we'll have to wait till february before we know who is the best for sure. unfortunate that cleveland, ryan, and baylor all only wrestle each other in december.
  3. garstin is 170, out with a shoulder injury right now but will be back in january
  4. Father Ryan is missing junior stud Robert Garstin
  5. Even after debien and the other cleveland state placer come back im not sure if they would beat ryan. Cleveland had upsets in Landers beating Chalifoux and Martin beating Morrice.
  6. Father Ryan REALLY needs to figure out their 170-Hwt weight classes. Last years upper weights were a lot more solid. Im not sure if all of those guys were seniors, but the talent level in the lower weights far exceeds the talent in the upper weights. Maybe they are just young, but they have to get it together if they are going to beat a team like Baylor. Nick Naughton going 152? thought he was a 160-70 pounder. Surprised that Binns beat him. Morrice looked really solid at 160.
  7. I'd say Father Ryan. Pat Simpson has a great coaching staff, and puts big emphasis on team effort. It's also a great school, and the training you would get there is elite. In the past three years Father Ryan has had eight wrestlers go to solid programs for college. MBA is also a great school, and will academically be the best bet. Other great schools are Baylor, McCallie, Cleveland, and Wilson Central. If you're kid wants to wrestle in college, and he has the potential, Pat Simpson will get him there.
  8. you've made some fine contributions to Tn wrestling & more over the years. I don't recall seeing any negative comments from your posts & appreciate that. I'm starting to acknowledge & encourage more this kind of approach with positive rating points voted on two of my favorite posts every day. It's a quiet and anonymous way to say thanks for one's input. for what it's worth

  9. Dang didn't know about that one. Guess i look stupid now ha ha. Both are great wrestlers though, id like to see that matchup again.
  10. first match of the year for parker. had been playing football. Chad was wrestling all summer. I'm just saying. And you really cant base potential match ups on past matches. Maybe for that match raulston was really hyped up, or maybe parker was nervous. It happens all the time. I watched a kid get tech'd by parker then lost to hoodenpyle in a TOUGH match the next week by 1. You never know how things can end up. My $0.02.
  11. All of you guys putting D1 on a pedastal are very wrong. Yes D1's bracket is tough but there are some very good wrestlers all the way through. It is harder to place in d1 because of the depth but saying that d1 is THAT much better is sooooo pushing it. Going through the weights. 106 King is simply the best. 113. Navvaro beating murphy? Try again. 120 Oliver wins. 126. debian. 132. Ok honestly....Daniel Wesley (FRHS backup) was winning against austin richards 3-1 before he got stuck in the third period. Wesnofske is much more physical and athletic and Richards which is why I give it to Wesnofske. HATERS gonna Hate!!! 138. CONNELL. 145. Hamilton DEFINITELY does not pin Davis. 152. Sutherland would win. 160. I'm going to say popp. He is BEAST. I dont care what people say he is big, strong, fast, stays on you ect ect. Father ryans naughton had a close match with kligensmith, so saying that "Popp is not even on kligensmiths level," is simply ridiculous. 170. I give it to kennedy, though Hagey is known for big upsets (check last years semi finals.) 182....Ok. Parker is just plain beast, so is Solomon. Solomon holds great position and is very fluid, but I'm giving it to Parker, strictly based on his ability to take people down. the rest of the weights go to D1. DII has very skilled wrestlers most coming from Baylor, Father Ryan, McCallie, Christian Bros, and MBA. Those are going to be your top five, most of whom have the ability to place at DI. Last thing. Saying that Popp would not even be top 6 at DI and that the top 3 from DII, heck even the top 5 from DII would not even qualify for DI is just an absurd thing to say. People need to look at the strength of the schedules that the teams and placers from both divisions have, and if they win there, and then we can judge who is better. Peace and Blessings.
  12. Prep Slam results are very interesting. You have McCallie, Father Ryan, and St. Benedict all competing at this tough tournament. Wondering how things are going to turn out. Ryan has 11 in the quarters with McCallie having 8. Not sure how St. Benedict is doing, but hopefully TN can bring home some hardware.
  13. @Sommers Father Ryan did not wrestle a 182. They forfeited that weight class.
  14. Father Ryan kids will all be pretty tough if they have been training as hard as they usually do. I do have one question. How is Houston Hooker at 195? Did he bulk or is he just wrestling up due to the smaller bracket? Good day all.
  15. Don't see Eckhart or Naughton on here. From FRHS. I think mingus graduated as well? Oh and also, what weight do you think Josh Derrick-Ortiz will wrestle this year? Heard the kid was good.
