thanks for correcting me on andrew, will hurt Oakland not having him since they are thin enough as it is. since a certain fball player got kicked off the team a few days ago, probably best that andrew is just sticking to football.

I have to go with L-TOWN in this game. Lebanon is hungrier than any other team in the district. they have 6 seniors that play and are not ready to go home. Donald is one of the hardest workin post out there and Hall can break anybody's press by his self. Seigal plays 6 guys and then bring in some lil white kid that plays like Steve Nash on rentilin. So the way Lebanon runs the floor and has a bench lebanon wins by 15 and plays the JV at the end.......and dont forget about Allen at the post...he takes off like Vince Carter just ask Keith Ramsey........JJ quick as lightning........Cross,Presley, and Hutto are MONEY from 3's......and lets not talk about Winfree and Payne, they both are non-stopable...........and dont 4get Henderson that subs for Donald, when he comes ready 2 play he can dog any 6'8 person you put in front of him..........LEBANON BY 15..and that junior Hancock his time is coming he will surprise everyone...WHO WE B L-TOWN.........
ive come to the conclusion that having depth at times could be overrated. both Oakland and Siegel dont play any more than 7-8 guys a game but were the top 2 teams in the district. im sure the other 3 teams in the district semis are just as hungry and as determined to win the district championship as lebanon. talking trash and say your gonna whoop somebody is all fun and games, but it all comes to down to which teams hold their emotions in check and execute their game

Well you sure seem to have selective memory loss!! You say you don't "rip" Oakland?? I refer you to post # 825578782 on the GIRLS basketball board where you ripped Oakland pretty thoroughly. Take a little look-see............
Your posts reek of bitterness. It does not take a rocket scientist to discover which school has your allegiance and where your animosity toward Siegel comes from......as your NEXT opponent . Now....why not Let your boys do the talking for YOu on the court.
i guess somebody has gotta go against the flow so i guess i will. if you were at the oakland game monday, you would have seen where oakland won by 46 and continued pressing even when the outcome was going to be obvious, which can interpreted as running it up. when he said he doesnt rip Oakland, i think he meant from the boys side since you never see Coach King even try to run it up.
dawbsit has always made well thought-out, informative posts. i havent always agreed with his opinion, but he doesnt post a one sentence response(like some of us are guilty of and, im just as bad as anybody in doing it)

I guess Oakland just can not get any respect. How can you be mad because Oakland beat Lebanon by 50 with the starters sitting out in the second half? The second and third string practice just as hard as the starters do, so when they do get the opportunity to play why not let them try to the best of their abilities. Let the second and third string have fun and stop complaining. As far as the bathrooms being dirty, the school is probably older than half of the parents sitting in the stands. For a school that old I think that the bathrooms are more than adequate to use. And programs are nice but do you really need them? These are the same teams that you have been playing all year, and if you can't recognize any of the players by now just give it up. And how can you blame Oakland for the attendance in the stands? You act like they decide how many people are going to come to the game. If people don't want to come then they won't come. It's that simple. The point is stop complaining, and watch basketball like the rest of us came here to do.
thank you thank you thank you. fans should enjoy this time of the year instead of complaining

i agree that columbia will be a tough game for any district 7 team, but columbia hasnt faced the depth of quality teams that district 7 has faced night in and night out. pit any of district 7-aaa's four teams against columbia and i guarantee you that all of them would have a chance at the end to defeat the lions. not saying columbia will get eliminated, just expressing the possibility.
as for shelbyville, good guards have been commonplace in our district. i hope the press, because if they do, i hope their ready for it to get shredded, especially if they have to play oakland or siegel. riverdale is the one team that is shaky against the press so that would probably be the best matchup for shelbyville

The region tournament is still a week or so away, but I figured since the eight teams are at least now set (although the seedings are unknown), we could start throwing out some thoughts on how things may shake out.
Does anyone think that Siegel and Oakland will not be the top two finishing teams in the District 7 tournament?
Personally, I think Columbia will take care of business in their next two games and win District 8, but I thought maybe the Lions could catch a break if Siegel and Oakland finished 1st and 3rd in their district, because that would put the Stars and the Patriots in the same bracket for regions.
Can any of the other District 8 teams (besides Columbia) make any noise in the region tournament, or is District 7 too strong?
And also, where is the region tournament being held this year? Are the first round games at the higher seed and the rest at MTSU like in the past? Because I thought I might have heard differently.....
regions will be held at blackman. they are going back to having region schools hosting the tourney instead of mtsu.
as for district 7, Oakland and Siegel could easily meet in the consolation game instead of the championship, the top 4 in our district is that balanced, however i dont see Oakland and Siegel ending up in the same bracket at regions, i think these 2 will meet in some form or another this week. if there was ever a chance for district 7-aaa to sweep district 8-aaa, this would be the year. 3 of the 4 district 7 teams have 20 wins( Siegel,Oakland,Riverdale) and the only one that doesnt(Lebanon) has 18 wins, not many districts can claim that
-
suprisingly, 1st round of the district tourney had no suprises whatsoever, which is a suprise in itself. anyways, lets begin the debate on the semifinal games. how will the oakland-riverdale and lebanon-siegel games turn out?
-
here here. thanks for the classy post 90warrior. we all are rivals during the regular season, but once the postseason gets underway and a few of us start to get eliminated, we have got to come together as a district. I have full confidence that Coach Mitchell is going to return White Co back to prominence very soon thumb

thought you would never ask ............
Everybody knows about Watson,Patterson,McCleary,Howard, etc. but heres one from Oakland you could especially look out for: Pj Polk. kif has amazing speed that affords him to cover a lot of ground in centerfield, a part of that very talented sophmore class, which includes other players to watch out for such as tyler burnett, andrew mcgowan and barnes(sorry cant remember first name). Also, Mitch Warren will be another one that should shine in 2005, although he is pretty well known around the district at this point. Big Sticks will be a common theme with Oakland this year, they will be able to score runs with the best of em

name a topic for district 7-aaa baseball and ill get a pretty conversation going. btw, in years past, davidlimbaugh has instituted a cell phone network which has proven to be quite useful. if any of you guys are interested in that make sure to e-mail davidlimbaugh or send him a personal message

any more updates on this game? should be close to being finished by now
-
i dont know bout you guys, but i have been suprised by the margin of victory in the 1st 3 games. For a district that was as unpredictable as any in the regular season, it has proven to be anything but unpredictable so far

way to step it up tonight Oakland. adareus didnt have the best night, but others stepped up their game to make up for it. really am suprised by the margin of victory
-
Mj didn't press/play starters for even 2 whole periods. And yes, MJ has been accused plenty of running score up. You said yourself Oakland wanted to "make a statement with a big win over a Lebanon team". Well they did, just not sure if it was the statement they were trying to make. Anyway, you have your opinion...the rest of us have ours.
i said i saw both sides of the argument and was presenting it in my post as such. even in a blowout, you want your starters to at least play one good half. now had Oakland kept most of their starters in deep into the 3rd/4th that would one thing, but Oakland didnt press in the 2nd half and pretty much rotated a bunch of their reserves. regardless, i want to say i admire for lebanon for playing hard and not giving up. they knew that they were not going to win, but played hard anyways. i hope their coach can build that program back up, lebanon always has had a classy program
-
Not sure how a "big" win over Lebanon is making a statement. Nearly every team that has faced these girls this year has had a "big" win. As stated earlier, this is a very small, young team with 6 of the 7 being fresh/soph. It has been a very trying year for them and I commend them for going out each night and giving their best. No need for other teams to "slap them in the face" and attempt to make a mockery of them. Good luck to these ladies next year thumb
alot of people thought this was going to be a repeat of the last time these 2 teams played, with lebanon making it a close game. Oakland did most of their damage before the half, dont see how that is slapping lebanon in the face. Lebanon couldnt even stop Oakland's reserves(which were in for essentially the whole 2nd half) Your not gonna tell girls to let up, especially the reserves, who give just as much effort during practice as the starters. MJ beat lebanon by 50, but i dont see anybody accusing them of running it up
-
I don't understand what Oakland and their coach got out of running up the score on Lebanon. Everybody knows Lebanon is down (only 7 players on the whole team, 3 freshmen, 3 sophomores) and running up the score doesn't help either team.
With Oakland up 40 late in the 2nd quarter, they were still pressing. I would like to know, before the coach can try and defend it, what could your team possibly gain from humiliating your opponent in such a manner?
My first thought is to say, "I just hope someone does the same thing to you in the very near future." But that would be doing the same thing to Oakland's young ladies as they did to the Devilettes, and the blame falls squarely on the coach, not the players.
I couldn't want a team to lose any more than I want Oakland to lose. I have always respected their program, but not anymore. They disgust me.
It's about time that the District 7AAA changes the district tournaments to a "neutral" site. After all, 7A and 7AA does this. The reasons are:1. Games would be more fair, No home court advantage.
2. The facility at Oakland is pathetic, poor bathrooms, no district programs, etc., and low attendance. Upper Cumberland teams (like Sparta last year) knows how to hosts a district. Nice programs and good facilities.
3. How will teams fare when Lebanon host the tournament? No one likes that small gym. Why not pick a good location, like Tennessee Tech gym? This not will only bring in better crowds, but more money to TSSAA and a "neutral" court. The crowds in and around the Murfreesboro girls program are mostly a few parents, and that is it.
It is time for a change, TSSAA wake up and change these venues for the districts.
How is Tennessee Tech a "neutral" site? Just because Cookeville does not play there doesn't mean it is "neutral". Short of going to Nashville, where even there some fans have much shorter distances to travel than others, the only fair way is to rotate it. As much as I dread traveling to McMinnville next year, it is only fair. What's wrong with Lebanon's gym? It has a great basketball atmosphere. I prefer it to any gym in the district. White Co.'s gym would be second. It, like Lebanon, is a little older with some distinction to it.
oh goody goody, bunch of good stuff to address in this one. as far the game bewteen Oakland and Lebanon goes, i can see both sides of this argument. Oakland wanted to make a statement with a big win over a lebanon team( i know that sounds cruel but such is the way of the world) Like you, i didnt find a whole lot of benefit for either team by Oakland pressing the entire 1st half, but i think Grandstaff wanted her starters to get in 1 good half before she played the reserves for the 2nd half. Granted, you can achieve playing a good half by not pressing after the lead is too much for the opposing team to overcome, but the last time against lebanon, over struggled mightily against lebanon and even gave lebanon a chance to win, so the motivation to play well against lebanon was strong im sure. however, i dont condone running up the score and sometimes a team just plays so well that you cant help it, such is Oakland's case. Did Coach Grandstaff run up the score? Yes, but to a degree. If you look at the results of Oakland's games this year, Grandstaff has had a tendency of letting her starters out too early in a blowout win and resulted in ugly play for the duration of the game, not just for the reserves, but for the starters when they came back in as well
as far as Oakland's capabilities to host a district tourney, i think the high school is more than adequate. You say Oakland needed to print out programs for the district tourney, do you have any idea how much time that takes up? Coach King is the AD as well as the boys basketball coach and he simply just doesnt have enough time in a day to fool with programs, people have a good memory, so use it over the course of the district season and you wont need a program. To say that Oakland's restrooms are pathetic is just untrue. Granted, they arent even close to the best, but they are kept relatively clean and have the capacity to hold a bunch of games in instances such as the championship game. Since principal tackett was hired, he has being doing some major renovation at Oakland, but it simply takes time and he cant fix everything in one fail swoop. As far as low attendance goes, how on earth is that Oakland's fault? Yesterday's games would have had low attendance no matter what district gym they would have been in, simply because everybody knew that those games didnt have that much potential to be good games. Like getthatstuffoutofhere said, rotating district gyms is the best way to go

Well no upsets in the first round for either district
1.Columbia 1. Oakland
2. Lincoln Co. 2. White Co.
3. Shelbyville 3. Cookville
4. Lawrence Co 4. Riverdale
1's play 4's and 2's play 3's
I know this is hypothetical, but if the tournaments ended this way, were there any regular season head to head games between any of the region matchups 1st round? i.e. Lincoln Co Cookeville, or Shelbyville White co. I think maybe Lawrence Co might have played Oakland in Lebanon over the holidays anyway I'm lazy I could look it up but that's why there's a thread. Good luck to all
Oakland did play Lawrence County over the christmas break in lebanon and won 62-50. Oakland dominated the 1st quarter, but the last 3 quarters were pretty even, Lawrence County stood their ground very well. Oakland also beat columbia but we all know that was very early into the season.
the schedule for thursday night for the girls will be Oakland v. Riverdale at 4pm and White Co v. Cookeville at 7pm. Both of these games feature 2 of the bigger rivalries in our district, so it should make for a good night of girls basketball

interesting spin on things with the point swing chart. the dyas of oakland having a true homecourt advantage have been long gone. great preview into a district tournament that proves to be as unpredictable as any district tourney in the state
-
having seen tullahoma twice this year(both against Oakland) i believe their problem is that they can play well in spurts, but havent been able to be consistent enough to win on a regular basis. tullahoma isnt the most talented bunch around, but they play with plenty of grit, heres hoping they pull the upset

what district 7 coaching staffs were there? would be suprised if oakland or riverdale were there since its such a long drive to winchester from murfreesboro. will be very interested to hear the outcome of both games from winchester tommorrow
