Couldn't argue any of those picks but hoping Page can get the win.  They're turning into the Buffalo Bills if they don't.

There's alot of 5A programs that would happily take their place. Page has been the underdog in each of these games. Early in the week I was thinking first one to 14, but not sure the winner will have that many. If you like a good ple fashioned slobber knocker this is your kind of game

This game between Upperman and Pearl Cohn reminds me of 2005. In 2005, Livingston Academy had finished the season 5-5 losing 4 games by a total of like 15 points. They slipped in the playoffs. Made a magical run to make the state championship. They were told David Lipscomb was to good. They were told David Lipscomp had better athletes. They were told David Lipscomp had played better teams.  But something about that Hogeye team was special. Like it was destiny. I get that feel with Upperman. Sometimes, I think it's your time. Maybe it's just me, and none of that destiny stuff matters. But I am old school, and I think it just might matter.

Not alot of parallels to draw from that game other than the fact that Upperman will be a underdog. The weather will help even the playing  field. Pearl sure isn't Lipscomb and Upperman isn't some .500 team that just got hot at the right time

Have the highest respect for both programs, both are well coached and do things the right way. Upperman does have their motivations, but let's not act like Pearl doesn't either.

Pearl has been right there on the cusp of a title so many times under Brunetti. I'm sure most of the players are aware of what this game means not only to their program, but to Metro going on a 15 year title drought. Brunetti truly embodies everything it means to be a coach.

I haven't wanted to see a non-Oakland team win this badly since Tullahoma broke through and send John Olive out a winner in 2021. I think Pearl finally gets the monkey off its back and wins 28-20

Oakland's championship reign comes to an EMPHATIC end, this Saturday!

    Houston 24

    Oakland 17

    -------------------------

Houston is disciplined, well coached, stout in the trenches and solid in all 3 phases of the game.

Oakland will be forced to throw the ball more than they're accustomed.  They will be unsuccessful.  They will lose.

After a 20-year hiatus, the Gold ball will return to the Suburbs of Memphis -- the City of Germantown's other Public High School, Houston.

Don't think either team is going to be throwing it that much Saturday with rain in the forecast for the day before and day of the title game

The funniest story he told me that morning was about how he got Mike Casteel who was at Eagleton to come to Maryville over Alcoa. I swear he said they were at spring practice and a UT assistant who was recruiting Danny Spradlin was there at the practice and he ask him to drop by Casteel's house on his way back to Knoxville. The assistant knocked on their door and handed Mrs. Casteel a business card and told her that Mike was on their sophomore group to watch and he was sorry he had missed him that day at practice. Coach Wilson laughed and said Mike was at practice te very next day dressed out. Coach Wilson is honestly why the county schools hate Maryville to this day because he could go out to a Eagleton Football game and stand around and get in good with the daddies of those players and the next thing you knew they were all coming to Maryville.

That's what they call having the common touch. I believe most truly great football coaches have it

I can tell you a lot and the first thing had to do with the 1980 team which was actually pretty loaded that fell on their face because the leadership completely turned into a joke. The QB got a lot of pre season hype which I'll say didn't turn out to nothing but a major disappointment. There were some good guys on that team but were out numbered by the bad ones. It pizzed Coach Wilson off so bad he decided to step down but inside he really didn't want to but word had hit the street and Maryville coach Don Story was pretty much the next man up and he didn't want to pull the rug out from under him or he would lost him to another school if he stayed and Maryville teams of that era were built tough defensively by Coach Story. Coach Wilson set out that year in 81 and Kingsport came calling and he took the job. Coach Wilson told me personally he couldn't believe the staff of assistants D-B gave him to work with, it was a coaches dreams versus three at Maryville but through out the 70's only two. I sat with him at an Alcoa game a few years ago and even though he had been away from D-B for many years he kept asking what the score was on their game constantly.  I can personally tell anyone he was pretty bitter about everything that happened that last year and he really second guessed himself for not staying. I listened to him for about two hours that morning but I can say without a doubt he did really enjoy all the new people he met at D-B and he really loved that job up there. I really wanted him to win a state up there so bad but did get close a time or two. During his time at Maryville a good foundation was built for what we have today along with the the great youth league and the great coaches that have gave a lot of valuable time to keep all of this going right until this day.

Thanks Barney, I always found it curious he left and I know Maryville folk talk about him like Bama folk talk about Bear Bryant

To Pack Allen Jones, you gotta go to Cleveland. Former Cleveland player, wrestler and grad and big booster. Not a Bradley guy. (although he, through his foundation has been known to support the wrestling programs at Bradley and Walker Valley at times)

The track facilities are in another location instead of around the field.

But I do get the point about the lack of ability to get from one side to the other, unless you get down on the field around the end zones. I don't know if the announcement about non- re-entry is dictated by the school or by TSSAA. But that was not announced until the play-offs, but in our case, I would like to see them make an allowance for that.

But then I have known of instances where fans at other locations (McCallie) were told they had a visitor's concession stand to serve them, tho.

I had heard he put he supported all the local programs not just Cleveland,  guess I heard wrong. I'm not much for moving around once I get inside so I didn't mind

You know germantown was picked to go to state right 20pts win at their home and Brentwood 28-0. Bradly played with a backup qb and scored 17 points against Oakland.  Houston would killed bradly and if you think #17  gone beat Houston by his self you crazy

Daune Morris would be the first one to tell you he doesn't do it by himself. Ashton Jones will def factor into the running game as well. Every year I hear fans from every other team say Oakland is too 1 dimensional and yet they've won a title 4 out of the last 5 years. The fact that you can't spell Bradley and think Houston would "kill" them tells me all I need to know

And honestly, so not looking forward to that!

We are very much enjoying our run that has included this and, the last two years!

I think Page would fare pretty well in 6A. Each title run is pretty special bc it's incredibly hard. Hopefully Page can score one for Middle TN in 5A

I don't think I can handle the thought of GQ going to Oakland. I always said if GQ had that talent that a school like Oakland has, he would never lose.

Lol was just my way of turning it around on Barney, don't expect that to happen but it's a entertaining thought seeing what he could do with a roster like that. Oakland is probably one of the very few public schools he'd consider if he came back to coaching HS

I don't know - He is pretty entertaining to be around and is a really likable dude - Kids love him and so do parents. People on here have accused him of recruiting for years so if that's really the case then he should fit into that role nicely. I think the reason he has been so successful is because of his ability to adapt. I think sometimes people think college coaches are larger than life, but most of the time they are just really good football coaches who work really really hard and end up with an opportunity.

I'm a Oakland guy so don't have to sell me on anything I just think it's incredibly difficult to make that big of a jump, even for a coach as good as Creasy. Quarles had a few years to acclimate himself to FCS and went 6-16.

If Creasy has his eye on coaching, the Tennessee Tech vacancy is a better chance for success  than mtsu would be

I don't think either would be there long enough to make a true difference without a major recruiting class or two and they aint those kind of guys. The problem is no one else is clamoring for this job

Obviously so. Then again, maybe Central's requirements are toO high. Gotta figure there's a good assistant or 2 in the area ready to be a HC

  13. 7 minutes ago, 422PT said:

Football is Football and Coaches are Coaches - He can do it and would do it well. AD says he wants someone with a huge personality and who can get the community to buy in again - Murfreesboro would get behind Creasy. I like it.

Until he struggles to adapt to all the other things that being a HC at the college entail. Like MM said, maybe at the FCS level. Huge personality isn't Creasy

    I would be downright shocked.

Now if you said the Cumberland job or maybe even Tennessee Tech I could see it, but no chance MTSU goes the high school route.

Exactly. Don't think I can recall of an instance where a coach made the jump from HS to FBS and was successful in doing so. I know some Middle fans have pointed to Insell and Breeden for making the jump to college but Football is a completely different animal

If he did take it at a million, he would be in the same shape Stockstill was in. POOR facilities, and poor fan support. It would be short lived for anyone until they step up and do something about their facilities. No recruit wants to go to a place where it is crap even with a great coach.

They're breaking ground on new facilities and the fan support is poor bc they got tired of just making a bowl game as the bar set for success

The next coach will have to be a go getter while being able to recruit well in-state and across the southeast. I'd be surprised if Creasy even gets an interview

  16. 55 minutes ago, Augustus said:

The better question would be why did they take so long to relieve Stockstill of his duties? Is this a job where 6-6 is a great season?

Has more to with that albatross of a contract the athletic department drew up based off of 1 good season. It's the fault of the university for setting the bar too low. MT has too much going for them to go under .500 over the last 20 years

  17. 4 minutes ago, BarneySox2007 said:

BA would be crazy not to go after Creasy. MTSU most likely fired a better coach than they will find. The facalities at MTSU are horrible as it comes and I am so glad they don't have the championships there any more. It would be a coaches nightmare to draw in good players to a place like that.

BA has some stuff to fix before they can get a coach of Creasy's caliber on board.

MTSU is about to undergo a major upgrade in facilities.  Not gonna find a better person than Stockstill but he had a sub .500 record against FBS competition and a poor record of recruiting his own state which has been putting out more and more FBS talent.

    MTSU can do better
