  1. The problem is if a guy takes his lumps early in that county he will not be there to see it through. The expectations do not match the reality for those in charge.

If that is the case why is the girls coach still at Lebanon?

  2. we had a nice string of winning seasons up until two years ago.  we have more athletes and better athletes than manchester does.  which you can see from football.  we need a guy who can get the best athletes in the school to play.

then you should have hired the 400 game winner from ms with 4 state appearences...instead you will no doubt hire a level 1 math teacher with no credentials. once again not being critical...i just happen to know t town cares as much for basketball as manchester does.

  3. any word on what douglas will do? I hear he applied at tullahoma.

why would we want him if he's not a "quality coach or person" and has failed at two schools..lol!

no offense but when was the last time t town made the state or had a winning season? you haven't exactly hit a home run with your hires the last several years. I say he winds up as an assistant someplace...only problem will be his physical education certification...not many jobs with that out there.

  4. It's funny that you posted this 4 days ago and still haven't gotten a response. I think people in Rutherford County really don't give two flips about boys basketball.

Mike Voss, former Blackman assistant, has been named the head coach at Riverdale. Troy Bond, former head coach at Wilson Central, has been named the head coach at Oakland

riverdale hasn't been relevant in boys basketball for almost 30 years...oakland for 10. it seems on paper at least oakland got the better end of the deal.

  5. I thought the assistant coaches at Harriman were involved in AAU.  Why was the Head Coach let go?  Also, do you think Harriman is that great of a job that it would cause a snowball effect?

Harriman like most East Tennessee jobs is a joke...main reason being they never hire coaches from Middle or West Tennessee.

  6. my thing is why go through all the trouble of interviewing and wasting people's time if you knew who you were going to hire? that is so much mickey mouse. i hear there were at least 4 top notch coaches who applied but the ad selected maybe 3 or 4 with very little experience to make william's hiring seem legit. just offer the guy the job up front if that was your intention in the 1st place. any word on what douglas will do? I hear he applied at tullahoma.

  7. At Mitchell I always keep 3 names on file if I need to make a hire in Footbal and B&G basketball. I contact them and if I have a favorite I give it to the principal and makes the final choice.

you hit a winner with phillips...if that was your hire you know what you are doing.

  8. how do schools do it in basketball? i know for football they usually advertise and have search committees but what  about basketball. seems in most cases they hire assistants from within or look at local candidates some whom have very little experience on their resumes. just seems at most schools in the state hiring a quality basketball coach just isn't a priority.

  9. I disagree completely.  Pace of the game is dictated by many factors.  I think you have two very skilled teams.  To each his own, but I think you are wrong.

that is certainly your prerogative however I think back to 91 with kingsport db, mcminn co, oakland, hamilton, science hill and whites creek who was #1 in the nation that year. great tournament...great crowds especially the thursday night session and great coaching. didn't see the same kind of atmosphere or teams in this one.

  10. I hope Coach King gets to rub a gold ball before he retires...watching his teams compete against more talented teams has absolutely convinced me that he deserves at least one before hanging up his clipboard.

agreed...this game should not have been close. king a really good coach but it looks like coaching has taken a toll on him.

  11. only person that would take this job under the circumstances outlined here would be a coach who is retired who would only want to keep it for 2 or 3 years anyway. i'm sure there are those kind of candidates out there. you might even get someone to take it for the supplement only...if it is as high as you claim it is.

  12. you know folks i'm very disappointed in all this. I grew up in ky where up until a couple of years ago girls weren't even allowed to play on the same nights boys did. girls played on monday and thursday and in front of sparse crowds. like most kentuckians the thought of girls playing a boys game was almost communistic. when I moved to tn I found out girls basketball was pretty special. got interested in watching girls play and even developed an appreciation for the team oriented selfless approach girls took to the game. now this happens and i realize the girls game is just as corruptible than the boys game can be...and it saddens me. fire both coaches...integrity demands it...but it won't happen. the riverdale principal is talking suspending the guy for 2 games next year...so it seems he will be back.
