I'm pretty sure we know the answer as to why the DC didn't stick around.... and if I'm CJP, that's the FIRST person I'm asking to stay, but I'm not sure CJP is being allowed to hire/keep who he wants when it all boils down to it. I'm sure he has reached out to some great Coaches about joining the team, but once again, does he really have final say as to who he can hire?

And as the Chattanooga Chapter DCA alumn @stephenhargisunderstudy has eluded to, DCA doesn't pay jack compared to other Privates. Tell Coach Sanders and Willoughby at Baylor hello from the @Sackmaster50 when you see them on the sidelines. Played with them at MTSU. ;)

Good to hear from a fellow Blue Raider football player.  We both played for McCullom.  He assisted Boots when I played.  Class act.

  2. It is my understanding that DCA DC Beaubien has accepted the Head Coaching job at Scott City HS, MO.  I don't know the full details and would be interested to see if new DCA Coach has reached out to current coaches to remain on staff or encourage them to move on.  Playerscoach, please chime in.

CJP is a great hire for the future of the school and program.  He is a symbol of change.  I think the administration did a great job, and I think he will suprise a lot of people.

He is young, energetic, motivated and exactly what is needed.   The naysayers will point at the record and resume, but this is much more about fit.  CJP is a fit.   This is not going to be an easy job, and will require a tremendous amount of energy and work.

The guy had the balls to take the HC job at MJCA.   He took over ER when the admin was an absolute trainwreck, and it didnt work.
His middle school program had been top notch since.

It is perfectly understandable that other candidates be upset, disappointed, and hurt.

People are going to complain no matter what, but the facts are that he was the right fit and offered the position.

The biggest thing is that he will care.

All the football alumni that ###### and complain that read here can listen up.

Instead of bitching, complaining, texting, bashing, listen up.  Most of you that spend your years complaining about certain folks.  Instead of doing that, you should walk up in that school, tell them you are in no matter who the coach is,  enroll your kids, grab your balls and quit letting your wives dictate where your kids go to school.   Be apart of the solution.

I had no clue he was the HC at MJCA, even though he is not listed as a former HC at MJCA by unapproved website, unless it was 2010-2012, right before his stint at East Robertson.  If that is the case, he did not win at MJCA either.  But, that is understandable.  You can't win there.  lol.  It is obvious you are a big advocate of this hire.  There are others within the walls of DCA that may feel that way as well and that is fine.  This is a head scratcher to most of the coaches in TN because of the history DCA has and the history the new hire has had actually coaching at the high school level as a head coach.  I have a ton of respect for coaches/friends I have at DCA.  I want to see them continue to succeed.  It will be tough.  They will still beat most of the DII A teams, but they have to contend with Friendship, NCS, Trinity, Jackson Christian, Columbia Academy, GCA, Clarksville Academy (some years), MTCS, etc.  Tough task.  Good Luck in all seriousness.

Thanks @stephenhargisunderstudy - Any thoughts on the former coach's feedback?   Since you are still keeping up with the thread and the school with a bird's eye view, what do you think about the feedback provided?

I would be @Playerscoach would have an opinion about it also.  Let's discuss.

I would like to jump in please.  Pierce is a DA/DCA guy.  I am sure he understands the DII landscape a little bit from 20 years ago.  Not as a coach recently, but as a naive high school QB.  My concerns lie with him trying to win games.  NCS, FCS, CA, GCA, just in regular season.  He had stallions at East Robertson.  Everyone knows that, but he was losing games to the likes of McEwen, Cornersville, Clay County, Houston County, Richland, Harpeth, Stewart County, etc.  No disrespect to these teams, but they are not what I would call powerhouses at the A/AA level.  And they sure didn't have the players East Robertson had/has.  There is a big difference than having to try to outcoach someone as opposed to just being able to run jet sweep or misdirection in middle school and let their better kid out run everyone to the corner and be gone.  My concern is in no way toward this hire as a person or teacher.  It is strictly based on facts/games as proof and probably more qualified people applied.  I have had friends play at DCA years ago and have close friends coach at DCA over the years.  It is a special place.  I want to see them do well. I watched many a game where Paul Wade and staff had to actually outcoach people to win games.  Same for Dennis Goodwin.  They are 2 fantastic coaches who could out scheme you.   If it was close in the 4th Qtr, more times than not, they made it happen.

Absolutely and so did every person in the selection process from what it appears?

The deed has been done.  I will have to trust you.  Hopefully he and his staff will aid the young men in their mental, moral and social development for life.  Good luck to DCA.  I still hold this institution in high regard.

He’s a really good guy but he’s just not ready for that HC job yet. That doesn’t mean he’s a bad coach by any means though. In fact, he’s liked by probably 99.99% of the people at DCA but that doesn’t mean he should get the keys to the program. Again, he’s a truly wonderful man and I wish him well I’m just not sure they will go that direction?

And you think Pierce is ready for this job?

Dennis Goodwin has had this program on target as Coach and AD for over 30 years. The next coach will be a winner, no need to rush when making sure it's the right fit for future of DCA football program. I'm sure the DCA job had a lot of applicants because of its winning tradition and the fact that its never available only two coaches in 30 over years.

Coach Goodwin is as good of a Coach Tennessee High School football has had.  I know for a fact that he relied heavily on 2 men over the years as assistant coaches, Paul Wade and Brian Beaubien.  Both left DCA to become successful head coaches in their own rights only to return to DCA.  Obviously to work with Coach Goodwin again.

Ready is relative to that job IMO and that is why I say that. He’s a wonderful man by all accounts. I have no idea what direction they will go though and I know there will be a group that works to make the hire. DCA has an opportunity here to build off of what Paul did when he resurrected the program.

DCA has a golden opportunity here to make a hire to build off of what Paul did. Whoever it is doesn’t have to be great at the things Paul was but they do have to be extremely good at getting the numbers back up and growing the program.

Again, I do not know DCA like you do, but I have had some good friends that have coached at DCA over the years and have watched many a game at DCA over the last 30+ years.  Dennis won a ton of games and won Championships.  His last year in 2017, they played for the Championship.  When Paul took over, the numbers were down and they were young and went 0-10.  I would not call DCA a resurrection because they consistently won and won big. What Paul did was do what he has always been able to do in his career, head coach or not, and that is find a way to win games.  Kudos to him.  Good Coach and Good man.  He has always treated me with respect over the years, especially when we would pick each other's brains when we were youngsters in this crazy profession.  He has a knack for winning games.  He will do the same at BA, without question.  The next coach at DCA will be tasked to maintain the DCA way.  Be a constant threat to win it all and continue what Ken Redmond, Dennis Goodwin, George MacIntyre and Paul Wade have done.   They may not have to look far to find their next guy to continue the DCA success.

I am in no way saying I know the ins & outs of DCA as you do, but I will say we obviously have different Webster’s Dictionary definitions of “ready”.  Having over 30 years of coaching/teaching with 2 successful stints as a HC at 2 different schools and almost his whole career has been as a coordinator, play caller & Head Coach & a lot of those years in the private ranks (DCA) with a couple of rings on his fingers tends to tell me that someone is ready for a job.  I have never been accused of being real smart, but come on man.  You are correct, DCA may not go that route, but it will not be because he is not “ready”.  It will be interesting to watch how all these DII jobs pan out.

Being a preseason pick to win it all next year and now losing Wade to BA DCA is at a crossroads.

They have two internal candidates that frankly neither are head coach material yet and a former coach who was in the final two with Wade.

    Will be interesting to see.

Since you are on the inside at DCA, I am assuming the 2 you are talking about not being ready “yet” does not include Beaubien.  Just being Frank.  He is as good of a coach there is in MidTN.  I don’t have a dog in the hunt, but I know he is high quality.  Good luck DCA.

  12. Franklin High School is not the great job as it once was.  It is getting harder and harder to win there.  With the addition of Ravenwood, Centennial, Summit, Indy & Nolensville in the last 20 years, the athletes and rezoning gets pushed east.  What Franklin needs is another school built down 96 toward the Davidson County line so that rezoning would push back toward the west and they can regain some of the areas they have lost due to rezoning.

He has to move at least 20 miles from current address to the area of the new school The move has to be legitimate. He cannot stay with other players while the school creates a different address to hide that fact.  He cannot receive financial aid unless it comes directly from the school after the national clearinghouse has told the school how much he qualifies for. It cannot come “from a guy who makes up the difference”.

Curtis and his family is not going to move away from the community of Liberty in Dickson County.  NCS was a convenient situation because he could just hop on HWY 70 and drive 25 minutes to school.

great qb and was a finalist last year I believe. it looks like he missed a few games with injury or something. 4-6 record and 200 yards a game and 19/9 ints in single A is below average. I have heard he is looking to leave nc so maybe brothers would not really put him up for mr football with subpar stats. he will not be at nc next year is the word on the street

Curtis is a Dickson County kid, but has been at NCS for a long time, before his Prep career started.  His family still resides in the Liberty community of Dickson County if I am correct.  Someone can correct me if I am wrong.  It would be a tough task for him to be eligible elsewhere, unless his family sold their house and moved outside Dickson County.

  15. I will make this as simple as I can so that everyone will understand..........It all starts at the top in a school system.  If this is allowed to happen in Monroe County Schools, then the top Central Office personnel should be evaluated, then filtered down to the AD/Principal.  They should be held accountable.  The Board Of education should be embarrassed and they should not be allowed to seek re-election if this was allowed to happen under their watch. The parents involved should be ashamed and I hope they realize what they have done to the program and the long term affects that will stem from it.  If the parents are on the Booster Club, then the Booster Club should be abolished or at least, parents involved in this should not be allowed to serve in the Booster Club.  All these actions have hurt the kids involved and hurt families that ultimately were/are affected by their actions.  Not good business.

The problem is, that those who are not part of this program, know more than everyone in it. You feel bad for a coach who doesn’t put the best 11 on the field. Give me a break. This is no longer about a football program but about hurting someone’s feelings because they can’t see talent. So you would punish the whole team for one kid. What is also bad is that the players see it and know who should be playing. But let’s not worry about the whole team just the one player and the “coach”.

    Stop........just stop

  17. Region Week! 7AAAAAA

    Who you got?

    Northwest (0-2) @ Kirkwood (2-0)

    West Creek (0-2) @ Rossview (0-2)

    Dickson County (1-1) @ Northeast (0-2)

    Clarksville (2-0) @ Kenwood (0-2)

2 surprising records is Rossview at 0-2 after 2 tough games and Kirkwood at 2-0 playing 2 teams that undoubtedly thought scheduling a new team would be a win.  Kudos to Kirkwood for finding ways to win as a new team/school.  Has the opening of Kirkwood affected Rossview & Northeast much?  Early media reports has Kenwood having the best QB in region.  Clarksville appears to be solid.  It also appears they are always spared or had little effects from the realignment in CMCSS over the years.

  18. 11 hours ago, TheCommissioner said:

Will Kirkwood play a 6A schedule?

They are playing a varsity 6A schedule out the gate.  From my understanding, Freshmen, Sophomore and Juniors zoned to Kirkwood must go, but the seniors can opt to stay put in their current schools.  Montgomery County school system has a reputation for being hard & strict on zoning issues.  No free passes given.  That means Clarksville, Rossview and Northeast will lose some young kids they don't want to lose.

I misspoke in my initial thread. He requested that the last date of participation be put down as August 1st, 2021 making yesterday the official day they could be eligible. Wait until August 19th, they will have multiple starters on the field that are out of zone players that should be ineligible. Liberty Creek's starting QB was the starter for Beech all of last year, including their playoff run. He is an out of zone player that should be ineligible until one year from Beech's last game. The same with two other players from Beech and even a few players from JP2, which Del Phillips has no control over what happens on the JP2 side. I have never seen an athletic director or administration willingly put down that their starting QB is eligible to play after they transfer from their school to a different school in the same county.

I am confident in saying that Anthony Crabtree would not sign off on this situation, albeit he is not an administrator.
