  1. I get it - some would rather see a fast paced high scoring game where the last one with the ball wins instead of a line up lineman to lineman see who can win the old fashioned way. I will tell you though that a running team that takes their time and pushes the ball down the field methodically with the run powered behind a very physical and strong offensive line can frustrate the heck out of the other team and in effect neutralizes any speed the other team may have.
  2. Actually I believe Rhea is running the Power T this year, not the wing T. As for boring, with that offense Rhea has racked up more points and more yardage than most teams do with the other offensive styles of play. X yards on a play is X yards on a play whether it be by air or ground. I'm sure the guys running the ball don't mind at all.
  3. Actually there is not that many over the 2000 mark today (less than 10 based on the site I queried for largest high schools for enrollment). I'm thinking if you looked at the numbers they would be about the same. If you took the top 100 the enrollment range is around 1100 - 2300.
  4. There will be approximately 50 schools in each of the 6 classifications. With the field of 32 for the playoffs that will mean that all but around 18 play for the title in each classification. So the regular season becomes less important with the ability to lose quite a few games and still be in the playoffs. I can remember a time with only 3 classifications across the board where a team had to be a district champion to make the playoffs.
  5. Sevier County really doesn't have a good defense and only way they win is to keep pace with the scoring which I don't think they are going to be able to do. They may want to slow the pace down to limit possessions of Independence but they are not that type of team.
  6. Maybe they should let them share after that. Congrats for Tee but sad to hear how that happened.
  7. Actually the pressing did work in the second half. Only 7 points were scored by SC during the second half.
  8. Just saw the stats for this game. I knew Rhea ended up with more offense but wow, 346 rushing and 238 passing for a total of 584 yards. The 238 is really impressive considering that Rhea played without its primary go to receiver after the first drive. SC had 421 total (173 rushing and 248 passing).
  9. I did not see that play well enough to comment on what or what didn't happen. And since you all only use the big screen for commercials and the animation when there is a flag we never got to see the calls that were somewhat controversial to understand what did or didn't happen. Football is a physical game. Players get out of position and sometimes have to make quick decisions on how to react to the positions of other players either to protect themselves or protect other players or both. Whistles are not blown consistently - sometimes the ref lets the play continue longer than they should - sometimes they don't. Most penalties are the result of that rather than a player trying to hurt another player. I didn't see any player on either side purposely try to injure another player. I did see players playing hard and physical. Football is a physical game and yes Rhea County is a very physical team - a lot more so that SC.
  10. This is not the only thing ... believe me. It is the after the game activities by the SC fans that is the issue. Are there bad fans for every team? Absolutely and I am sure RC has their share. And I am not one of them. I only asked the question because it was the first time I had ever seen a team not take a knee. Good grief! Way too many sensitive folks on this board.
  11. I've seen RC fans reminding the team when our boys / cheer squad are slow to take a knee.
  12. Seriously if a player is going to cramp over taking a knee a couple of times during the game - are they really in good enough shape to play football? I find it hard to believe that coaches really think that taking a knew a couple of times really makes a difference in whether they win or not. To me it is a sign of respect of one player for another player.
  13. Yes that middle school team was undefeated and beat Maryville and Baylor.
  14. Question for your SC folks. I have been to hundreds of high school football games and every team I have ever seen takes a knee out of respect when a player for either team is down. I do realize that most college teams don't do that but EVERY high school team I have seen except SC does that. Why does SC not show the same respect that other high school teams show in this situation? Regardless of how the SC team played, I have no respect for a team at this level that can't for those seconds / minutes when a player is down put themselves second.
  15. Normally I would root for the team from the east, but want to see Independence win this one.
  16. Agree this says nothing about how the two schools will or won't match up. If one only count the scores when all the starters are playing then a lot of schools could claim more shut outs.
  17. I thought a shut out = 0 points? In the three playoff games, Sevier County has allowed 46 points (20, 20, 6), Rhea County 47 (0, 34, 13).
  18. Both Chattanooga and Knoxville are bounded by smaller cities that have pretty much limited their growth and expansion, in terms of population for those cities.
  19. And all three have been road games! Win or lose I am proud of this Rhea County team. They could have folded when they were 3-3 but didn't and now find themselves in the semis for the second year in a row. Great teams don't quit and find ways to win when things are not going their way. This particular team has definitely been good thus far in finding a way to win.
  20. Rhea County has a Walmart and it will be full of folks on Friday and on Thursday if they open up again like they did last year.
  21. Don't all successful teams have to buy in to the direction given by their coaches? Coaches are there to provide that direction to the team and help the team to be successful as a team.
  22. I guess we are just used to Eagle Stadium, where seating, bathroom, concessions and space for the young boys to play the game while the game is being played are in abundance. Now if we could just install a big screen to watch the replays on - life would be good.
  23. How does the 1500 compare to the capacity at the last two places? Same size? Larger?
