York going to win it without Beaty. She was great. But they'll win it. And then we'll all wonder how that happened. It's going to happen.
-
York has been great recently. It'll probably continue this season barring unforseen circumstances. But they have won one state title, finished as the runner-up twice and made 13 state appearances. That doesn't compare with anybody else on the list above in any of those three categories. They may be a top 25 program all-time, but at this point, they're not a top 10. If they continue to have the success they've had over the past four years though, that could change in about five years or so.

A little history on Gibson County. 11 Final Fours. 10 seasons AP ranked number 1 at end of regular season, 3 years undefeated at end of regular season, 1 year undefeated winning Gold Ball, 4 Gold Balls and 1 Runner Up with 3 Gold Balls coming when there was only 3 classifications, 1 Silver Ball when there was only 3 classifications, 1 Gold Ball when there was 4 classifications. 2020 was Covid year and was still playing in Final Four when cancelled. Been to state 18 times. Pretty good resume. 3 or 4 times when they weren't consolidated. Yorkville, Rutherford and Dyer have some history. Yorkville was Runner Up one year.
I overlooked Gibson County. They would be team No. 11 for me. I'm going to edit my list, just behind Livingston Academy (which had four state titles, six runner-up seasons and 20 state appearances).

1. Shelbyville
2. Bradley Central
3. Clarkrange
4. Jackson County
5. South Greene
6. Bradford
7. Pickett County
8. Riverdale
9. Oak Ridge
10. Livingston Academy
Also considered: Gibson County, Marshall County, Mt. Juliet, Westview, Upperman
*** I only included the public schools, no offense intended to the private schools.

So, are we seeing the trickle-down effect of this transfer stuff? Sellars - the Friendship Christian quarterback - transfers to Lebanon. Now, Watertown's quarterback is transferring to Friendship Christian. That has to be crippling for Watertown, which struggled mightily last year. I looked up the kid's stats, and he threw for more than 2500 yards and 26 TDs last season. It looks like Watertown passed the football two-thirds of the time.

Saw on the home page that Cothron is stepping down and becoming the assistant at Trousdale County. Who are they hiring? Are they looking for a head coach currently, or has the next head coach just not been named? There's nothing on the TSSAA web site of TCHS looking for a head baseball coach.

For #10 did you mean White House Heritage? Because White House is 4A.
What's the skinny over there at WHH? The offensive line coach went to Nashville Christian and along with his son, an offensive lineman. Is that correct? And did another assistant coach recently leave as well?

Similar to a Bartlett? Lots of resources?

Could someone tell me about Lakeland Prep? It looks like it's a school of grades 9-11 and then, the kids go to Arlington High School as seniors. Is that correct? Why is that? They've qualified for the state in both baseball and boys soccer. Is it in an affluent area of Memphis? That's just very unique that a school with no seniors has two teams reaching the state tournament.

What schools are these guys from?

So, did everybody who was an underclassmen who played significantly for TC last season return?
-
Don't worry. I'm sure it wasn't as much as you're getting paid as president of the EV fan club.

They're going to get worse as the season goes on. Why? Because you are playing too many young kids. Young kids are not physically mature in comparison to the teams they are facing. So, what happens? Their bodies don't hold up. Also, mentally, they don't hold up. When you're losing and having very little success by scoring 20 points the whole season, it's very difficult to mentally stay invested and to have the same zeal and energy. Young players get beaten down both physically and mentally. TCHS has had some studs who played for four years in the past. Some freshman can handle it. Here's the difference though. Those kids who have played in the past as freshmen at TCHS were playing alongside veteran players. There was stability around them. That helps those young players who are prone to mentally struggling as the season wears on. It helps to keep them mentally invested. This past year's team had very little stability anywhere. There was no returning experience. You couldn't look to a high-performing experienced senior to your left and your right. You looked at another freshman or sophomore when you looked to your left or your right.
Your argument of the team getting worse as the season went on holds no weight, simply because of the unique situation that very young and inexperienced team was in.

If you feel that Nolensville is a difficult job, you have to look no further than Father Ryan. When competing in D2AAA and not being allowed to recruit like the top teams you must compete against, it makes the job next to impossible if you want to win. The good thing is that it doesn't appear that FR ever terminates a coach for not winning.
Why can't FR recruit like the other privates? Does the school require the students to be Catholic?

Rumors are swirling that Thundercat Gregory has ran off yet another highly touted prospect! This is not the first and will not be the last to leave. Gregory has got to go before he has the football program shut down! How is the Gregory gang going to defend this one??
Which one? Where's he going? More NIL $$ there?

So, rumors are swirling that Macon has a couple of transfers from Station Camp including a quarterback and a couple more from Trousdale coming into the fold. Any truth to that?

Vetetoe was HC at JSMS for 2 years when he first started. 2010-12? Been freshman HC at Oakland for 4-5 years. I think he went like 44-1 in that time with his offenses averaging 40+ppg in one of the most talented counties in TN. I think if you have ever been around him coaching, you would understand why so many want him back at TC. I think several in the school system would vouch for him as well. Has 100+ wins as baseball HC at TC and Lebanon. Took a very young sophomore heavy team to substate first year as baseball coach at TC. We have all followed him for years, if you know his story it is quite impressive. But still don’t know how it’s possible some think he leaves Oakland OC job for TC job. The fact that he would even consider it should tell people how much he truly still cares about TC. As someone else said earlier, KG is having to try to right a lot of wrongs by those of the past and it’s not easy. I understand last year was rough but time is not on the currents staff side. With one time transfer coming and the jackets losing, the “talent” that’s coming will find its way on others sidelines and it’s already started to happen.
He's not the offensive coordinator at Oakland. Come on guys. Let's live in reality.
He got ousted as the baseball coach at Lebanon. A quick google search tells us that he was 27-32 over his final two seasons as the baseball coach at TCHS and 72-67 at LHS (with an 18-25 record over that span in district play).
Let's not make this legend into something he's not.
Can he coach? I'm sure he can. Is there baggage and an abrasive personality? Well, that's what "they" all say.
Does TCHS need football coaches? You bet your rear end they do. But is he really going to be hired back? Why wouldn't he already be back if he is going to be hired back? What's the hold up?
And isn't it odd that his name keeps coming up in this thread so prevalently. Man, he must really have some fans! Come on guys ... it's all right in front of your nose.

How did he fare against quality competition? Those numbers were impressive against the lesser teams on the schedule, which was poor. How'd he do against Marion, Westmoreland and Monterey? Talented young man though for certain.
-
The West may have more parity but the West wasn't better this year. The East was better with Marion, Westmoreland and East Robertson. Milan was supposedly physical and looked that way on the surface, but in the state championship game, that physicality was less and less evident as the game wore on. Milan couldn't sustain its ground attack, partly because they couldn't throw the football effectively. And that was the best team from the West. I'm not sure why there's this perception that the West is/was so elite. That one region that consists of Milan, Huntingdon, JCM and Riverside was the best overall region in the state. But those were very possibly teams that ranked in the 3 through 10 range in Class 2A. Milan and Huntingdon were top 5. It wasn't close between Riverside and Huntingdon in the second round. And while JCM looked to be really solid, you shake your head at that 23-7 loss to Peabody. So, they rank at maybe 7 or 8. It was the best region, but with as much as East has coming back, yeah, those teams are going to have a challenge in the semifinals if East doesn't implode next year. But East has shown the capability of doing that on a regular basis.
One of the Easts - East Nashville or East Robertson - is probably going to be in the semifinals, unless Riverside really has a tremendous amount coming back. Quad 3 is weak. East Robertson or East Nashville - whoever wins Region 6 - is going to walk into the quarterfinals.
East could play for the state title again if those young men play for one another. But as has been stated, will the lack of discipline remain? Stay tuned.

I’ll add too for thought, Westy had the ball inside the 10 yard line 3 times against East that they didn’t score. Bad snap that set em back 15 yards, a fumble east recovered, and then a holding call I think was one of them.
Saw the film on that game. Only had two possessions total inside the 10 yard line. One ended with a snap that hit an upback's arm. The other one ended with the winning touchdown. A third drive inside the East Rob 30 did end with a lost fumble, but there weren't three drives inside the 10 in which Westmoreland didn't score. You guys had one drive inside the 10 in which you didn't score. The other that went inside the 10 led to the game-winner. No exaggeration is necessary. You guys are good football team without the embellishment.

Who is the best team that either of these teams have beaten?
WHH/ER for Westy and ER for Marion?
Even Marion's defense didn't hold ER to 6 points.
Was ER more healthy against Westy or Marion? Westy won that game on the road.
Does anyone think Marion is MORE physical than Westmoreland?
Which team has the better defense?
Heritage is not good, slightly above average if anything. Their competition is just very poor. The combined record of their 12 opponents so far is 58-73. Take out Westmoreland and East Robertson, and the combined record of those other 10 opponents is 38-69. That's why they're 9-3. There's just nobody in that quad in 3A. Westmoreland handled them if what I was told is correct. East Rob ripped them. They're not a real good football team. Class 3A football is poor. Alcoa is walking to the title. And 3A will be even worse next year with no Alcoa and no East Nashville. People like to say that there are no bad football teams left. Well, there are some left that simply aren't all that good. Heritage is one of them. And I have nothing against Heritage whatsoever. They're just not that good. But they've done what it takes to still be playing. Credit them for that. Based on very inconsistent results, I'm not sure that this East Nashville team is all that good either. They barely beat a Liberty Creek team that was average at best. They've played awful competition also for the most part.
-
Was it just dominating against Smith County tonight? How did it unfold?
-
Saw something on social media today and then saw this post. It said that said that Cooper White of Westmoreland was averaging 7.7 yards per carry and had 21 touchdowns through eight games. He's a running back and I believe a defensive back who returns kicks too. They're ranked in the top 5 I believe and beat East Robertson a week or two ago. I just looked up their schedule. They are 7-1. They haven't lost since they lost to Macon Co. to begin the season. I saw him play last year. I remember him being a heck of a baseball player when he was young. I thought baseball would be his sport, but apparently, he's having a great senior year on the gridiron too.

Did they attempt to allow Foster to throw it at all tonight? Or would the conditions simply not allow that?
