  1. what exactly is this shoe trick?
  2. well most of the time (not always) it seems that the OW is kind of like a season award... and its pretty much decided before the state tournament happens (provided the wrestler in question lives up to the performance at state) usually goes to a wrestler that has consistently impressed everyone throughout the year, and finishes strong at state. that being said, there are always multiple individuals that are deserving of the OW but you can only give one.
  3. did browning tech mahmut in the quarters? i think there is a misprint because it has browning getting beat in the 2nd round but still in the wrestlebacks.
  4. i guess this gives away my age, lol
  5. A lot of refs do have biases... but they aren't for a certain team. they like to see wrestlers get after it...they dont want them to stall or shy away from contact. if you are a clean wrestler and if you are active on the mat then no official will be on your badside... i've had the personal experience of wrestling a match where the ref was an alumni of the opposite school... as long as you put yourself in positions where the ref doesn't have to act for you, you'll be alright. i say this because this applies to ANY situation, not just this poor excuse for losing. I think you owe both east lit AND MLK an apology...i'm sure those kids know it wasn't officiating that cost them these matches.
  6. whoops forgot about those... this also isn't taking into factor starting at strengths in these teams lineups, or momentum... or possible weight shifts (as Bradley executed superbly against Cleveland at the state duals)
  7. congrats to Hixson... is this the first ever region win for them?
  8. 103: Pitts (BC) p. Eady (Bay) 6-0 Bradley 112: Watson (Bay) pin Hames (BC) 6-6 119: Biddy (BC) dec. Manley (Bay) 9-6 125: Doster (Bay) dec. Aguilar (BC) 9-9 130: Colbaugh (BC) dec. Hayes (Bay) 12-9 135: Graham (BC) pin Stavrum (Bay) 18-9 140: Taylor (BC) pin Cate (Bay) 24-9 145: Hayes (Bay) dec. Aguilar (BC) 24-9 152: Murphy (BC) p. Craig (Bay) 30-9 160: Disney (BC) p. Glascock (Bay) 36-9 171: Ferguson (Bay) p. Hembree (BC) 36-15 189: Helton (Bay) dec. Bolton (BC) 36-18 Baylor 215: Mackey (Bay) p. McCulley (BC) 36-24 285: Epperson (BC) dec. Watson (Bay) 39-24 (point deducted for excessive celebration, for the DI win over DII) Final Score: Bradley 38 Baylor 24 as you can see this match would be exciting throughout the lineup.
  9. I think it should be state law that Bradley wrestles Baylor... it should be declared robbery that we dont get to see this epic match xD whatever your reasons for separating dI and dII, its clear these teams are and have been on the top of the list for the past decade. and looking back in the past few years especially to see how close these matches would've been...
  10. being a fan of chattanooga area wrestling, i would love to see all 3 of those teams go...but you can look at it that way, or you can look at it like an established program has to take their shots where they can, and if they are trying to get to the state duals, to come and wrestle hard at region. Ask anyone at Cleveland, Bradley, or Soddy how much 2nd place means to them at the state duals and i guarantee you it's not even close to 1st. This also gives smaller up and coming programs a chance to build up some tradition and fan base. If newer teams show up and compete and get better, than they just help the teams that are already powerhouses improve. In the end, an Independence turns into a Bradley, or a Cleveland turns into a Blair Academy. TN wrestling as a whole improves if you can get these smaller programs experience and show them what top of the line wrestling is all about. We can also say that these teams are already favored by the location of the traditional state tournament, so why shouldn't other teams in different areas gain an advantage every now and then?
  11. the last time i checked, people didn't go to the state duals to finish 2nd, 3rd or 4th... they came to win. everyone has a chance to prove they are the champions, and both Indy and Cleveland had their shot at Bradley. every team has strengths and weaknesses...and some teams match up better than others. It can be argued all day long who is the better team, and who can beat who, because there are endless combinations of matchups. at the end of the day, both Indy and CHS got their shots at being champions. Just regroup and try again next year, and try to build your programs up as much as you can. Why take a chance of defacing your schools reputation by crying about a draw? Just do the best you can with what you have... if there was an argument about seedings...either A, bring it up in the seeding meeting or B, wrestle tougher opponents throughout the year so your strength is clearly tested. congrats to both teams on excellent showings.
  12. nah that's part of it. Part of what makes the team aspect of this sport great is the versatility you need up and down your lineup. just looking at the build differences from a mature 103lber to a young 275lber tells you all the different kinds of people wrestling shapes and moulds. I say do not remove any... maybe even add more. Shows a lot of character for a program if they are able to fill the 14 weight classes.
  13. Great match, a lot of close ones. in particular... epperson wrestling peters tough, strickland staying on the mat all 6 minutes with hames its always amazing to see how many guys Bradley has in that practice room that want to get out there and wrestle (Roderick, Colbaugh) But then thats how any great program is. congrats to both teams, clearly two of the best in the state.
  14. I know our prayers will be with the Morgan family... Baylor has always run a great program and they have always been a class act.. i can't remember the last time i've seen a Baylor kid do anything but handle themselves in such a fashion. I'm know coach Morgan has a lot to do with that.
  15. I believe there should be a young kid with curly red hair wrestling for ND if he isnt already... i haven't had a chance to watch them wrestle this year, but i remember a young stud coming up from OLPH that was always good at the kids club tournaments in past years. is there a kid on their roster that fits such a description?
