  1. Wartburg led Oakdale by 22 in 4th quarter. Oakdale was somewhat expossed last night. Oakdale is still in District led, however I believe Oakdale, Coalfield, Wartburg or Oliver Springs could beat each other on any given night.
  2. All the pressure is on Coalfield with it being at home for Coalfield, Wartburg won the game on their home floor. I believe this game is a toss up.
  3. I agree also that Wartburg, Oakdale and Coalfield are equal I just felt at this point Wartburg has done a better job taking care of business.. I will take Wartburg, Oakdale or Coalfield to win a region tournament game against GCA or Megis at Wartburg with all of Morgan County cheering them on. I like those odds.
  4. District 4 post Christmas tournament results Oakdale 7-7 (2-0) Won against Cocke Co by 7 Lost to Knox Catholic by 38 (ouch) Coalfield 5-6 (2-1) Lost to Hampton by 7 Lost to Clarkrange by 14 Won against Harriman by 2 (very entertaining game, good win) Wartburg 9-2 (3-0) Win against Unaka by 18 Win against Kingston by 5 Win against Monterey by 13 (score 49 pts in 1st half, best half of basketball seen all year) My end of year District 4 rankings (feel free to disagree) 1. Wartburg (biggest surprise) 2. Oakdale (still waiting on them to hit their stride) 3. Coalfield (look great at times, other times look very average) 4. Oliver Springs 5. Jellico 6. Oneida (have win over Sunbright) 7. Sunbright (can they scratch out a few wins to move up) In conclusion: My sincere heartfelt prayers go out to the freshman Ooltewah basketball player for physical and mental healing. I hope you are able to continue your basketball career and it is filled with many memorable and heroic moments.
  5. Coalfield-Oakdale game was halted due to a slick floor. Hope game is finished soon so unfinished game is not a factor in District race. Seemed unfair to Oakdale since only time Coalfield lead was when game was stopped. Coalfield-Wartburg game was a great game which was close the entire time. Both teams were without 2 prominent players. Kilby tried to warm up for Coalfield, but don't understand why he was even allowed to dress. He was not even able to walk without significant limp, not sure how long he will be out could be some time before he is back. News is Wartburg's 2 players are expected back after Christmas. With Wartburg win over Coalfield that gives them a lead in District 4. I think with their 2 players returning they will have a huge say in the District 4 race. Any updates on when Coalfield-Oakdale game will be finished?
  6. 1st Oakdale - Wartburg game is January 26. Wartburg is down a starter who was averaging 16 game that should be back. Should be a great game hope both teams are healthy.
  7. Was told Wartburg was up on Oneida 30+ early in 3rd quarter after playing 12 kids in 1st half. Starters only played 2 minutes in 2nd half. Said Wartburg could have named margin. Oneida is only 2 years removed from a district title. Hope they improve to a competitive level.
  8. Jellico has no bench and the way they are calling fouls this year that will hurt them. How does Reynolds have any creditability with the players or community when he wanted out of Jellico so bad that he applied for every open job in East Tennessee and SE Kentucky. He openly pursed the position at Harriman. If I was a player or parent I would not of wanted him back if he wanted out so bad.
  9. The people I have talked with think Scott could finish as high as 2nd in their District. Guess time will tell.
  10. I have made it a goal to see all District 4 teams in action before Thanksgiving. Here is list of games in order I have seen. -Oliver Springs - Clarkrange Wartburg - Kingston Sunbright - Concord Christian Jellico - Clinton (at Scott High) Oneida - Clinton (at Scott High) Oakdale - Clinton Coalfield - Clinton Yes I have seen Clinton 4 times it did give me a good comparison on how each team played them. The teams I thought would be the in the top 3 (Oakdale, Coalfield & Wartburg) are easily the biggest surprises for different reasons. Oakdale to this point has been the most disappointing. I expected them with their seniors and experience to come out clicking on all cylinders. Some would say they have played a tough schedule and I would agree, but it is not the toughest. They are playing to much individual ball. Oakdale did not adjust during game very well. I fell they will get it together I just expected them to start better. Coalfield was not as fluid as I expected, at times when someone has ball you just know they are going to shoot it regardless of what is going on around them (Oakdale is like this also). I know that it has been said they just got their football players back, However I give this argument. Tellico beat Coalfield on a Tuesday after getting Football players back and Coalfield had same Coach and system as last year. Harriman beat Tellico on Monday after getting Football players back with new Coach and new system. I guess I was just expecting more from Coalfield with all their talent. Wartburg is easily the biggest surprise to start. They are 3-0and I fell they have played the toughest schedule. They beat Northview who most feel will win District 2 and will most likely be AAA when new enrolment # come out in 2 years. They beat AA Kinston and Scott High on their home floor. I felt Scott was best team I had seen and they are expected to finish 2nd in their District, also Scott has beat Farragut. Wartburg plays TEAM ball not ME ball nd are easily the best coached team I seen. I do feel Wartburg would beat Clinton. Talked to a friend of mine and he said Wartburg was down to Scott by 20 most of game and came back to win in overtime. Wartburg is ranked #1 in single A on coacht in strength + success I know it is early and a lot can and will change, but here is my EARLY District 4 standings after seeing all teams play. 1. Wartburg 2. Oakdale 3. Coalfield 4. Oliver Springs, Jellico or Sunbright (all looked about same) 7. Oneida
  11. Who are the probable starters for Harriman that play football?
  12. Kingston beat AAA Anderson Co by 5 to open season. Makes Wartburg win over Kingston on road look more impressive.
  13. Coalfield beats Union Co at home by 5. Football players looking more comfortable. Good win over AA school. Oliver Springs beats Tellico Plains at home by 2. Good win over District 3 team. Jellico looses to Hampton at home in overtime. Hampton does not have their football players. Wartburg goes on road and beats Kingston by 9. Good win on road over AA team. Oneida looses to Hampton at Jellico. Hampton does not have their football players.
  14. Oakdale split with Monterey last year, and Monterey lost their leading scorer to graduation. Oakdale had no seniors last year. Do you think Abernathy (a starter and captain last year) not playing this year may affect them this year. I thought this was the most sure win in district Tuesday. I agree Coalfield would win this game in a week once football players get some court time. Tellico is not a easy place to start your season. Wartburg beat a Northview team that went 7-9 last year that had no seniors, and will be in hunt for District 2 title. Winning by 16 was most impressive start in District 4. I think Oakdale, Coalfield and Wartburg should be tops in District, how they finish its to early to tell. District 4 will have a Morgan Co. flavor this year'
  15. With 5 of 7 District 4 teams with a game under their belts their was some surprising results. Oakdale looses to Monterey by 7 at home. Most feel Oakdale would compete for a Region title. Monterey is not expected to even be in top of their District. Coalfield looses to Tellico Plains by 3 at Tellico. Coalfield ended Tellico Plains season last year in Region. Oliver Springs looses to Clarkrange by 24 at home. The margin is a surprise. Wartburg beats Northview Academy by 16 at home, for the only win in District 4. Some believe Northview will compete for title in District 2. This is a good win and a strong margin. Sunbright looses to Scott High this is not a surprise as Scott is much bigger school. Should know more this week as more games to come.
  16. Well its almost Basketball season. I seen most teams in District 4 this summer an thought I would give my 2 cents worth. Oakdale Coming off a district championship with everyone returning (well sort of). Rumor is Abernathy is not playing his senior season. I believe Oakdale will not be as good without him. They have arguably best player in district in Maverick Smith. Jackson Hicks will fill the open starting spot and is probably the second best player on team behind Smith. Like everyone in district depth will be a issue. Question is will egos get in way of them winning. At times they play too much ME ball. Jellico Seen them play a couple times this summer and they did not look very impressive. Not sure what is going on Coach Reynolds pretty much applied for every open job in East Tennessee. He openly pursed the opening at Harriman. Will be difficult to get players to believe and play hard for you when you wanted another coaching job so bad. I see them taking a step back this year. Only unknown is you never know who may move to Jellico. Coalfield I believe they have most talent in district. They have size, shooters, ball handlers and McKinney. Osborne, Brown and Lee all played great in Fall League. They have the most depth in district, only question is when will football players be available. They will have a lot to say in how the district finishes. Oliver Springs Looked better in summer than anticipated. Murray is capable of scoring at will, he could easily be leading scorer in district. Role players looked good only question is can they score enough if Murray is off or in foul trouble to win. Wartburg They have potential to make biggest jump in district this year. May be youngest team in district, game I seen they only started one senior. Carroll can score off dribble and from outside. They were one of the best shooting teams I seen this summer. Best Coach in district and this is type of team he likes. Question is can young team mature fast enough to make noise. Oneida Only team that I did not see this summer. Word is they were much improved. Just doesn't seem Oneida is as interested in Boys Basketball as in past and that is sad. Sunbright Jeffers won more last year than most people thought he would in 1st year. Should take a step forward in his 2nd year. Kids play hard just have a hard time finding scorers past Freels and Dial. Pre season predictions 1. Oakdale / Coalfield 3. Wartburg 4. Oliver Springs 5. Jellico / Oneida / Sunbright (this is wide open) Best players in no particular order Smith - Oakdale Murray - OS McKinney - Coalfield Carroll - Wartburg Freels - Sunbright
