  1. Mawae......it's done! I think it's a good hire.
  2. Because he comes with some personal baggage and his current high school coaching record is mediocre…. Hiring Mawae who is a current NFL position coach and a hall of famer and by all accounts is a class act (off the field) would be a much much better hire.
  3. I'm a sucker for stink bait.... And yes....D2-2 sounds pretty good right about now.
  4. overreact much? It's high school for goodness sakes. Let's let it play out and then react. If Mawae, great hire in my opinion. If Kitna, uh oh. Regardless, LA will be loaded next year.
  5. His very mediocre record as a high school coach
  6. Wrong Flea…former Olineman.
  7. I'm supposed to not like something from unapproved website algorithm that poster said to ignore and that he thought LA was in the top 5 all time...........got it.
  8. a huge majority of a tiny youth group that had about 5 people in the senior class? Got it. I'm sure Flea was talking in hyperbole when saying 5 kids go to the academy.....but its not a big number. So I guess you agree that the folks at Hillsboro are running the academy coaching search and that there will be a seismic shift in the investment and importance of the program moving forward and that the coaching hire will be underwhelming and many kids will leave the program and LA will revert back to the Tilman days? We'll see.
  9. Agree 100%.....and I'll add this. Lowery and the university did not throw money at the academy football program. That money was donated to the university and "earmarked" to academy football. To my knowledge, everything funded including staff salaries, the turf field, the fieldhouse, and the new scoreboard were funded through donations to the university and directed to academy football. Trent did not have his own fund outside of university oversight.
  10. Candice may change some things but this I know to be true.....there is more money and excitement flowing into the academy football program than at the entire university, and it's not from the Lipscomb lifers.
  11. why are you taking up for this clown unless ya'll are the same person? What did that have to do with Trent wanting to place kids at Hoover? That's what I'm trying to figure out.
  12. Such a weird comment.......what does this have to do with placing kids at Hoover? You said Trent wants to place kids at Hoover to get better coaching. I called that a reach. Now you are saying Trent can't freely contact former players and Boog says he wouldn't risk it anyway just for a couple of conf USA type players. Of course there are rules around player contact which I'm sure he knows about. How does that tie in to Trent placing kids at Hoover? You said first to keep them closer (dumb). You said second to get better coaching (dumber). All knowing? Pot meet kettle.
  13. I think I agree...trying to translate....:)
  14. you said it was so that they could receive better coaching or so that they would be closer to him. I said that was a reach. Why is that so hard for you to understand? Own your dumb comment.
  15. I think I'm correct Boog....unless the rule has changed or I'm misinterpreting it....bottom line is if Trent hires anyone from LA to an off the field position, he can't recruit LA for a period of time https://n.Unapproved Website/news/new-ncaa-hiring-rule-has-some-coaches-perplexed
  16. spit it out Booger...educate me. I may be off base.
  17. talk about a reach..... You think college coaches are that concerned about the coaching their recruits are getting in high school. And how does Trent know about the inner workings of Hoover? Maybe Thompson, since he played them, but Hoover? You guys are something else to believe that one of the first things Trent did after leaving Lipscomb is to call Hoover and let them know that he has 3 plus kids that he will place there to "keep them close by".....LOL!! The only way I could even remotely see this happening is if the LA staff that is going to UAB with Trent and taking off the field roles do not get NCAA waivers, then that would prohibit UAB from being able to recruit at LIpscomb for I believe 2 years or so. So if Trent thinks he will be prohibited from recruiting current juniors and sophomores, he might would do this. But that has nothing to do with keeping them close or ensuring they have better coaching. Having said that, I think it would be really bad form and I would lose a lot of respect for him.....and yes, I know i'm one of the few folks on this board that respects Trent.
  18. I'll weigh in....cautiously...agree with Flea on massive differences in 30 years of high school football. Yes that BA team was insane, but all in all todays athletes are more advanced. Not saying this year's LA (or Baylor, MBA, McCallie for that matter) would beat them, but it is worth debating Look at the 1995 NFL combine compared to the 2022 combine. In 1995, no one ran a 4.4 or lower and only 4 ran 4.5 or faster. In 2022, there were 32 at 4.4 or lower and 60 plus sub 4.5.
  19. I'll never convince you otherwise but being on the "inside" I disagree that LA sold it's soul. My son is a better young man for playing for him. He has grown so much spiritually and has dear friends that look different than he does and that will serve him well. Trent infused energy into a very lethargic campus and brought back pride and passion to not only the football program but the school as a whole. There is a waiting list for almost all grades which has not been the case in a long long time. Hopefully the next coach can achieve some measure of success but I know it will be difficult.
  20. Maybe....but middle of the pack in D2 AAA would not be too bad
  21. not yet....would imagine Trent would love to have him....and his Dad!
  22. I don't think it will be a quick fall.....too much talent on the roster that is local. They still will have Beasley (CB), Spillman (LB), Jimcoly (CB), Gooden (G), Adair (C), 2 rbs. They are all high D1 recruits that live here and won't transfer. The concern would be the 8th graders on down. There are a couple of kids that moved in from out of town but not nearly as many is being talked about....maybe 2 or 3 at most.
  23. He's taking the DC with him....Coach Sione would have been a great replacement. Funny thing is....he's not really a defensive guy. He's an offensive/QB wizard that Trent knew from Elite 11. Wouldn't be surprised if he is Trent's QB coach at UAB......Hope that Coach Williams (OL coach) or Jaime Graham stay on in some capacity. I would call Phil Dawson to gauge interest as well
