  1. It’s crazy to me that everyone keeps going towards the “big names” and completely overlooking a juggernaut already on staff. Kevin Day was with Scott at West in 2014, coached college for some time and then came back to work with Scott. He could keep what offense has already been put in place and has the brain for the job. Worth considering in my opinion

He must have been encouraged to play somebody non region.  He said on tv interview that they were going to schedule "cupcakes"  for non region games the last 2 years. He said some wins would help their confidence and their "recruiting"   He actually said "cupcakes"  and "recruiting" several times on the TV interview.  Lol

By the looks of this schedule cycle, his region games seem to be the cupcakes. Maybe someone convinced him making it to the post season is better than a winning record…

doesn’t hurt that all he may need is one region win to lock in a post season spot. heck, with this schedule he could finish 4-6 and be the region champs

Let me tell all of you this. You wont find a better kid. A more respectable kid then Malaki Dowell. He makes really good grades.  Some of you should be ashamed of yourselves trying to say him not getting award because of character or grades. He is not a hood rat.

This seems a bit misread. I don’t think folks were making fun of the kid but simply asking/stating what may be used as judging criteria. Just cause he didn’t get it doesn’t mean he’s a “hood rat”. I may try to avoid the term “hood rat” in the future

Young Buck, I have been asked to and have sent in a nomination ballot every year since the late 90s.

And although I haven't been one of the selection committee members, I am friends with a couple who are part of that process.  Just because I am retired from active media doesn't mean that I don't still have friends in media and coaching.

But whatever floats your boat, YB.

    My apologies

That is correct.  Contrary to popular belief it's not an award given to those who receive the most "votes".  Media and coaches nominate individuals, and those nominations are tabulated and then the semi-finalists selected. From there an independent committee makes the selection, and none of those can have any ties to schools or nominees.

    It's not a popular vote.

Thanks again Bill for filling us in once again on a process you have never taken part in before but no a guy who has.  We will take your word for it.  Hope this doesn't get me ignored

Yes.  the vast coordinated conspiracy was succesfuly executed.  WTH are you talking about?  A bunch of reporters vote.  They're all biased, and most of the have only seen their little world.  No one cares enough about it to conspire or cheat.  Every year there are winners you could argue, and no one cares.  Get over it. They're all good players.  No one stole anything.

Let me be the first to apologize for having my own opinion that's different than yours.  Should of know mine was wrong and yours was right to begin with. That's my bad

Mr. Football is an award based on the regular season and is selected before the playoffs begin.

Bishop was absolutely deserving. He didn't steal anything.

People and TSSAA can say that they only use the regular season to chose but I'm not buying it. 60% of the winners' team won the state(1,2,3A) and it really seemed like Latham was passed on so that the 'regular season" aspect of this award could be preserved. Just my take

Hypothetical:  Oak Ridge beats Clinton, Clinton beats AC,  AC beats OR.  who's the county champ?

So the only way there's a champ is if one teams beats both the other two.

Couldn't you just follow the tie breaking rules that TSSAA uses? go to over all record after the tie?

That was the underlying point of the post.  Looking at the numbers of the other sports, its clear that there is some type of system used to determine how many classifications are justified... However TSSAA just threw that out the window for Football and made up its own system to maximize profits.

Until we get rid of coaches like the wrestling coach at Halls, other sports will never be treated equal.

Great results but a great AD would give all this credit to his coaches. No athletic director should tie himself to championships. Field upgrades, facility upgrades, coaches integrity, athletes grades and overall department moral should be associated with the AD's success.

A great friend of mine does an unreal job at AE Jeff Black and he hasn't even been mentioned. The work he does behind the scenes to better the coaches and athletes lives is second to none. I doubt many of the AD's mentioned would even take a shot to do the work he has done.

Someone else who will do wonders with his leadership with in his community is Coach Black at Fulton.

I agree with you.  Jeff is one of the best AD in Knox County if not the state for the time and effort he puts in to his community.

I believe your only under the coaching tree if your listed on TSSAA coaching portal for the school. If your at the school doing drills with the players during high school practice then yes they could/should be considered. Many though don't list all their coaches and i'm sure its not for this reason.

There are rules being broke specifically dead period rules with coaches in contact and campus access that happens at every school every year. I believe its just a fish TSSAA isn't willing to cast a line to catch. You see it but you don't want to have that carp on your line because of the fight and once you get it on board its not worth anything.

Sorry for the fishing reference I have been doing a lot of fishing in the evenings now with more free time.

I think the TSSAA takes a more common sense approach then most assume in these situations.  It is easy for one to look at a person running/training athletes in 7 v 7 or sports specific camps for that matter, using the same concepts as the inseason play calling, riding buses paid for by the AD, and standing inside the box or in the booth on top of the barn with Davy is a connection or link if you will regardless who is listed on the portal

Yep, Bow yourn head when you say the name of the great John Bean.

these morons in the stands that criticize and second guess these coaches, don't even have a clue how little they really know about what is going on down on the field.  It drives me crazy, I cannot sit in the stands anymore, just can't take it.

Nor does anyone else that has said they are not a coach and have been on the sidelines.  Coaches stand inside the box, everyone else stands down on one end or another.

  13. My vote is a tie between Gary “ol hickory” terry and Scotty boy out at ol Billy B! Pretty tough job week in and week out getting people kind of excited for games! GT, besides throwing out his own resume on coach t  is a class act. It’s hard to make the argument he doesn’t care about other sports when I personally have seen him laying down painters tape for soccer lines on the football field and they were pretty straight too

I didn't think I would ever see him leave the first time, so never say never.

And on Webb, hearing they are going out of state for a prominent alum who is the current head coach at a similar private school.  And if he wants the job I don't see the trustees offering anybody else.

I think the Trustees think the Lowe can foster a better more similar culture in the program than Chad can right now.  Sayre in Lexington is a good home for him where and alot of people already know that pulling a coach out of other surrounding states to come coach in TN isnt always the best choice.  I see why you think they hire Chad if he wants it but its a hire on name alone
