  1. CCHS is the veteran team and should win the game. SMHS is young and has nothing to lose. Sometimes the best team doesn't win. It seems to me that someone may be bias about the better coach. If both teams were equal talent wise i believe you would see what i'm talking about. It will come full circle in the next couple of years as the talent starts to equal out in Cumberland Co. That's if CCHS even plays SMHS again. The big game will be the region finals. Good luck with Bradley. It will take a totally different strategy to beat BCHS by which ever team makes it. BTW, It really doesn't matter to me who wins Monday's game. I have no dog in the hunt but i have watched basketball in the Upper Cumberland area the last 40 years and have seen first hand well coached teams.
  2. If it comes down to coaching i'll go with the the SMHS coach. He's taken boys teams from two different schools to the state tournament. I think he knows how to game plan and make adjustments when the game is on the line. SMHS is a totally different team than CCHS. Your talent level should dictate how you coach. The best coaches are the ones that get more from less! Lack of discipline will eventually catch up to you! Should be a good game.
  3. Congrats to Stone and Coach Capps! I'm still trying to understand the logic or lack of used by CCHS to manage the fourth quarter. CCHS is leading 47-40 with 8 minutes to play. Granted that's a lot of time but adjustments can be made to shorten the amount of possessions the other team has. Why is your best player in the game with 4 fouls up by 7? Why are they still in the same defense that Stone consistently broke down and drew foul after foul? Wether you agree with the refs or not thats the way the game was being called! Adjustments should of been made. Would it made a difference? We will never know. Give Stone credit for taking advantage of the inability of CCHS to make the proper adjustments. Stone did what good teams do make foul shots when the game is on the line. The majority of time close games are won by the team that makes the fewest mistakes and the correct adjustments. It's a combination of solid coaching and the ability of the team to adjust and execute. Again, if your down 7 then #23 needs to be in the game but why is he in with 4 fouls and your up by 7? Tough way to end the season. Good luck Stone!
  4. Really Vol2Vol2. How can you seriously blow it off as a PARENT problem? The problem squarely points to the coaching at CCHS! I think if you care to check you will find that those players consistently beat or were very competitive with all of the area elementary and middle schools in the upper cumberland region. The same schools that feed all district 6AAA teams. BTW, they also beat middle schools from metro areas like Bradley/Cleveland and Knox county! That's a FACT!! Your right AAA is more competitive. It then comes down to developing players. That is the responsibility of the COACH! It's also widely known among people who really follow basketball in TN. that district 6AAA is consistently one of weakest AAA districts in the state. A solid foundation was developed before they got to CCHS. Next step should be to strengthen that foundation and build upon it. They know what it takes to win. A good COACH figures out how to bring out that competitiveness in them. That person makes a HUGH difference! It's obvious why they are not competitive!
  5. CCHS continues to backslide under the direction of the current coaching staff! It's ashamed that the administration will not do whats best for the program. That same group of juniors were competitive on the state level when they played at South Cumberland. Sadly, they have gone backward since entering the basketball program at CCHS. Don't look for things to change anytime soon! It starts at the top. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. The numbers don't lie.
  6. I agree that CCHS has the talent to compete. Close games require the coach to make changes as the game unfolds. The game within a game. Wether it's calling a timeout to change momentum or getting the right combo on the floor. I haven't seen the coaching staff at CCHS make those types of changes. Still very predictable and limited in what they do! I don't see them beating Cookeville or White if the coaching staff continues to do the same thing.
  7. Not taking anything from that win but Clarkrange is not the same team this year. Coach D knows what he is doing. It takes time. You want to be playing your best at tournament time. It's not how you start but how you finish. Everyone needs to buy in and give it time. Old coach told me one time that a ugly win is better than a pretty lose.
  8. The Jets were not prepared for the Walker Valley game. No adjustment made on defense at all. Hard to play man when you can't contain the dribble, you don't jump to the ball or you have no help side. Very unorganized on offense. When in doubt fire up the three ball. That is coaching or lack of. People are grumbling!
