  1. Flo's twitter asked their 108,000 followers, "#7 Julian Ramirez was going to coast to the semi's. A late, controversial TD swung the match. Was the call right?" Ramirez himself responded, "It was right. Props to Mason." What an unbelievable class act, unlike many commenters on Flo. Not sure how those commenters can seriously question the performance of the sophomore from Chatt...he put himself in a position to win it against Ramirez (good call, in my opinion), and that cradle in the semi's was just nasty. He absolutely deserved to be in the finals. Not sure how anyone could dispute that
  2. All-Americans 120 - Gabriel Elkin (MBA) - 5th -- rode incredibly tough all match 126 - Eason (FR) - 6th 132 - Herring (McCallie) - 7th -- worked a good wing for a pin 138 - Brown (CBHS) - 4th 145 - Wittman (MBA) - 8th 152 - Dendy (McCallie) - 5th -- looked like he received a forfeit? 152 - Reiniche (Baylor) - 2nd -- match was called over and then a reversal was given after a referee's discussion to send the match into overtime. Went to the ultimate tiebreaker and Reiniche gave up the escape. 170 - Whimper (Baylor) - CHAMPION -- Whimper goes over/under with three seconds left and throws for the win! 182 - Duhm (McCallie) - 7th 220 - Hooker (FR) - 7th -- got an escape at the buzzer to win 285 - Henry (McCallie) - 2nd ------ Other TN Wrestlers 106 - Killian (FR) [2-2, two pins] 120 - Ward (McCallie) [0-2, SV loss in consolations] 145 - Sells (McCallie) [1-2, nice decision in first conso match, tough SV loss in 2nd consolation]
  3. Finals are underway, I'll update as they come in
  4. King announced he was finished following his fourth state title; that was his ultimate goal, and I think he finished out on his own terms. I'm not sure Simpson has ever wrestled in the offseason during HS. Didn't hear if Brackett applied for a wild card, I believe only Brown made the trip from Memphis
  5. Incredible match! Reineche wrestled to the whistle and was (rightly) rewarded. Holy cow...and on the other side of the bracket we have Ethan D just tearing it up. Can you imagine a TN state finals rematch in the finals of National Preps?!
  6. I don't think he's ever wrestled in the offseason in high school. Very excited to see both Reineche and Dendy making the trip
  7. That might be the strongest group TN has sent up in recent memory!
  8. Traditional titles in that same time span: 2008 2009 2012 2014 2015 2016 2017 So in the last ten years, Ryan: made nine Duals finals won three Duals titles won seven traditional championships. Seems fairly dynastic to me, but that's just semantics.
  9. This is a pretty good list! I think I take Eason at 126, believe he pinned Shrader twice before that wild one at Father Ryan. I also think there's no way Boykin pins Henry - I could see him beating him, but not gettign a fall
  10. LOL not "my" Ryan team, just a friend from down Franklin Road...but watching those two programs come together a few weeks ago was just one of the neatest things I've seen in sports: just such genuine and pure enthusiasm from kids from two dominant programs. Can't imagine the energy in that room when those two teams are scrapping together, I'd pay admission to watch that practice! Congratulations to both the Bears and Irish, what a finale both programs put on in these last few weeks!
  11. 100% agree. I'm an FRA guy by diploma but obviously have deep respect for the Ryan program, and have been fortunate enough to watch them multiple times throughout the years; I haven't missed a state final in years. So I was fortunate enough to watch an incredible scene a few weeks ago: Bradley and Father Ryan celebrating their dual titles together! Apparently they practice with each in the week leading up to the tournament? Too neat...can you imagine Alabama and Clemson working with each other leading up to the playoff?! Such an incredible scene with those boys so happy
  12. Yeah, my bad, I guess I was just confused when you said "D1 has close to 100 teams (???)." because I didn't realize that a D1 bracket contained “close to 100 teamsâ€! …unless I’m not reading Track right, in which case it suggests that no D1 bracket contains anywhere CLOSE to “100 teams,†and no D1 wrestler had to get through anywhere near “100 teams†to place.
  13. Wait, D1 only has one bracket? Or is it split up into separate, smaller brackets?
  14. What are you apologizing for? For not making the same snarky posts when FR was smoking both Bradley and Cleveland? For not recognizing that FR scored more points than any team in tournament, outscoring Cleveland by nearly 70? For thinking a tournament in early December was indicative of the final squads a team would produce in February?
  15. Ha! You're always good for some cutting edge analysis, TD. Track is telling me they actually scored more team points than any team, D1 or D2, in the entire tournament - 239.5 vs 236 for Bradley and 171 for Cleveland. I'm sure you're trying to reference the meaningless tournament early this year when Cleveland defeated a Ryan team that didn't include something like four or five members of their final lineup, but maybe we can just admit that come February, when it actually matters, Coach Simpson seems to know how to put together a lineup that can win it? Of course, I'm sure you weren't making these snarky posts last year when FR waxed both Bradley and Cleveland in that same tournament with their full lineup...better to pick and choose when you can claim superiority, right? Internet squabbling aside, congrats again to Father Ryan...quite the incredible run they've put together. Other thoughts: * Great to see Dendy get his title, one of five of McCallie's six finalists to win...a great finals run for the Blue Wave that wasn't quite enough to overcome Ryan putting 13 in the top four. * Christian Brothers suffered one of the great collapses I think I've seen in recent state finals (referring to both Duals and Traditional) - picked by many here to win at least one title, the Purple Boys from Memphis settle for bronze in both contests * What happened to Baylor? * Nice to see a number of schools not traditionally thought of as powerhouses who represented well in the consolations
  16. Congrats to the Purple Irish, a team virtually no one on this board appeared to believe in...at some point, the word "dynasty" has to be applied, and after repeating as both Duals and Traditional champions for the second year in a row, the time may be now.
  17. I believe Brentwood Academy was winner of 285, not Briarcrest. That weight class is as stacked as any going into this weekend, I could see virtually anyone in that bracket winning it
  18. Agreed! It was a fantastic final, incredible atmosphere as always (or as incredible as the "cowpalace" can be)
  19. Not sure why I'm the snowflake when the discussion is about athletes who can apparently compete at a high level in an intense atmosphere but cannot then muster the discipline to cross the mat and shake hands with the opposing coach without risking a penalty point! Again, congrats to the Irish for overcoming both the Blue Wave AND the internal battle each wrestler must have overcome to have been able to cross the mat and shake hands postmatch!
  20. I guess I'd be more sympathetic to this line of reasoning if I hadn't watched 14 Father Ryan wrestlers go over and shake hands after their matches, win or lose...maybe the mental toughness and discipline instilled in the Irish that enables them to control their emotions after tough matches is the same thing that propelled them to another state title!
  21. FR did earn it...not sure why several McCallie wrestlers refused to acknowledge that by not shaking hands post-match. If I remember correctly, this happened the first time the Irish beat the Blue Wave. It's a shame the McCallie coaching staff hasn't stepped up and addressed this issue; the post-match display of sportsmanship is what sets our sport apart from most
  22. Nicholson had to medically forfeit against Baylor in the match yesterday, anyone know what happened?
  23. Waiting for Ambush11 to show up and explain what went wrong for the Blue Wave. Congrats to the Irish, Coach Simpson and Co. do it again. Just goes to show that nothing matters until February!
