1. By the way, I understand the Owls are going to state in "disguise"!! According to the way I heard it, they made a pact at the beginning of the year that if they made it to the Fling, they would all shave their heads. Which based on my sources, they all have. Even those who might have been participating in other activities this past Sunday, couldn't avoid the "clippers"!

Good Luck at state Owls, even though many may not recognize you all!!

    Play Hard!

the old "we've never been here before" disguise. happens every year.... but you never see a "regular" use that great strategy. coach bear bryant once told his team when addressing touchdown celebrations...."boys, when you make it to the end zone, act like you've been there before." good advise from a great coach.

  2. I would say that Soddy has a really good shot if they have the same coach as last year because they were very well coached last year. If I recall correctly they lasted until sudden death pk's against McMinn Co. last year. That really says something about their playing ability because last year McMinn had a very good team. I believe this year will be different for McMinn however, I mean they lost Jared Price, Pat Henshaw, Robert Axley, and Aaron Stansell...4 key players in their playing ability so if it comes down to these teams facing each other again in post season or at all I think Soddy will do just fine and just walk through the game.

i look for soddy to be a good team again. they realize how close they came last year and that will make them want it more this year. but to say they will "walk through" mcminn is stretching it. mcminn will be solid again this year. they have two all state players returning as well as 4 or 5 other starters, a very good transfer, a good group of underclassmen that have had alot of playing time and a coach that has led them to the state tourney 3 straight years. it should be a good year for both teams.

  3. If i were you i woudnt count out Soddy Daisy just yet. They scrimmaged father ryan and lost a well played game by both teams 1-0, and everyone knows Father Ryan is a state contender every year in D2. YEs Soddy lost a lot but did have quite a bit of depth from the year before but the kids didnt play as much as they would have liked due to so many seniors. However the attitude this year is a much better one than last years. Coach Drummond is really enforcing discipline this year. There is also more guys excited to be playing varsity soccer and are not just going through the motions. The team concept is definately a part of Soddy Daisy soccer this year. All im saying is i wouldnt count Soddy out of the mix for district or region just yet. Just a little food for thought.

soddy did lose alot of good players but they left behind the ability and hunger to win. they were the best team that i saw last year that didnt make it to the state tourney....i thought they would be there. i believe they will contend in this years district and region...when a team plays at the level that they did last year it has a tendency to carry over to the next.

ooltewah should make the road for soddy much tougher this year. the tacklins and golden (if he is still there) are a great base and if emillio has vastly improved, they will be the team to beat in the district. the region will see one of these teams advance to the sectionals and from there it is one win and state bound.......good luck to both teams

  4. zap....i believe i should clarify what i meant to say.....his dad was responsible for the early developement of some of our players...he coached alot of these kids in their early years before his tragic accident. i didnt mean to state that it was he, rather than tom or curtis, who refined the skills of some of the better players. as for hicks and runyan...they can play and certainly would contribute next year.

  5. Who are these other impact players??  I haven't heard of any.  We will be rebuilding.  It will take alot of work to repeat again.  I believe we have the ability, but it will take work.

cree....u are right..this will be a rebuilding year.....that is why i said that mcminn will be "HIGHLY REGARDED in their district and region with an OPPORTUNITY to make it to the final 8"...........it was a rebuilding year this year also, losing santi, reid, owens, johnson, shaver and marco ......however, you got them there. you will do it again next year.

as for the rumors..................this may not be a rumor....winfield...he will solidify the goal position and is also a great field player........2nd rumor is hicks...he is a prolific scorer but can play any position...his dad loved the sport and put a great amount of time and effort in it, and is responsible for the development of many of the players on this team.............3rd is cardin.....you know him...he can contribute on defense..............and 4th is runyan...he may have a conflict in interest with tennis, but the last soccer i saw him play, he was beginning to control the center of the field.

those are rumors....if we get any 2 of these...mcminn will be the beneficiary.

    those are the rumors

  6. bearden and farragut will both be better.....their 2006 and 2007 classes are very, very good. as last year, mcminn lost some very good players in price, hinshaw, stansell, axley and armstrong but they do return a strong core group that includes kimball and slack, both all staters and several other select players, 3 of which play D1 and 5 who have played in the state finals in lower divisions... 3 of them twice. in addition 2 new players, one an eligible transfer and the other a freshman each play select D1. and there are rumors of 2 or 3 other impact players with select experience returning to the soccer field next season after a couple of years off...who knows? they should be highly regarded in their district and region with an opportunity to make the final 8 for the 4th consecutive year.

  7. there were 8 worthy teams that earned their way to the state this year....brentwood earned the title. dont be surprised if the field of 8 looks similar next year.....the big difference is that brentwood will be wearing the big target on their backs. hendersonville will be there....farragut and bearden will be there and better....mcminn has the talent returning to make it to the dance....im not sure how hard graduation will hit blackman, houston and germantown but i will assume that they will also be in the hunt next may.

congrats to brentwood and all of the state teams and looking forward to another great year of tennessee soccer in 2006.

  8. your right. and those players are now on the bench for varsity. playing when the games get high, for good experience. the reason i said this is because someone believed that on paper brentwood faired out as the better team. when in reality, it doesn't seem that way.

if scores get high?............everyone has jv players...dont expect the score to get high in the state

  9. Not sure. I'm suspecting Hendersonville to beat Mcminn, but I cannot vouch because I haven't seen mcminn play, i am jsut going by competition, records, what i've heard, ect. Granted, i think it will be a veryyy hard game. But I hear Bearden is favored for their game. Do you think that would be a tough match? Hville, Bearden? I haven't seen bearden. Do you know how good they are?

    825681012

bearden is very good.........they have alot of team speed.......very good passing team..and can finish.....one last thing, a strong defense.

  10. I just really read this, and I don't know if you could really say that logic makes brentwood seem better. Notice, how Hendersonville beat Rossview 5 to 0 in regionals. With not a very close game at all, 3 goals in teh first half, and jv players starting by 2nd. I, personally, don't see even in logic how that would make brentwood even look as if they were better than hendersonville. And by halftime of the glencliff game, hendersonville jv was playing, again. And the goal was in the last 2 on hayden coffmen. their freshman keeper. Not to argue, but  I just personally don't see how they would even really look as if they were better in logic.

logically...i would say your jv has ended their season

  11. I don't think this is something someone should post on yet. There is no finals. And tournement time is a crazy time. The girls state champions were not expected to win last year, Hendersonville was not expected to make it as far as they did last year, Farragut has changed tremendously lately, ina  good way, and everyone will show up to play veryyy hard this week. Farraguts going to have a tough game against Brentwood, personally, I think that is the biggest game of wed. Hendersonville also will not have it easy. I see no blow-outs, or chances to predict who will win this thing yet. Let alone the championship GAME.

    825680851

i agree with you......brentwood will have tough time with farragut....hendersonville will skip to the finals

  12. we are having a practice this thursday night(may 26) at 6:45 at camp jordan, its not really official tryouts but it will let the coach get a good look at some of the new players, practices will be pretty regular after that, not really sure on the dates yet though or how much it costs. I know its not that expensive compared to other teams

    825680876

please hold off a week or so...........we have players still in state that may be interested...ok?
