Thanks. Congrats to you guys on a great start. I know Houston returns a lot of size and production from last year, but I am still surprised they were able to take a set off you guys. Was Barb playing some of the younger kids?

She did.  We played them Friday and handled them, Saturday was a different story

Small potatoes to the rest of the conversation, but there was a small school play day at McEwen yesterday and for those of you following the small school scene, the 3 best teams there were easily Harpeth, Summertown and Watertown. All three traded sets with each other and if you were to play to best of 5 it would have been anyone's match. Harpeth is strong at middle, Summertown is a big team with a couple of good hitters and Watertown is even, but seems to have lost a lot from the scrappy team that made the single A final 4 a year ago.

Thanks for the update.  Saw a little bit of watertown last year in MBoro, they were definitely scrappy.

    Thanks, Rockstar!

TT, did you guys play this weekend?

We did.  There was some very good competition.  Houston out west and Dobyns Bennett out east looked good, each took a set of us.  Wouldn't be surprised to see them in Murfreesboro again.  I didn't get to see to much of the other divisions.

I do think you are going about this the wrong way. The veteran move is to be doubtful and uncertain, then credit hard work or good coaching for overcoming insurmountable obstacles. Otherwise, you're just the incumbent who wins only because you are Brentwood.

It's an environment of winning.  Every year the goal is to win state, nothing less.  That's the veteran move of a multi-state championships program.  Setting the bar low is not in that programs DNA.

  5. Tori can't be replaced but the senior setter who transferred in from California is very good.  Sets a great ball.  That's coming from the girls who she'll be setting.  Inexperience is not a word I think of when you're describing a team who will start 3 players with a combined 5 state championships between them and several tournament wins.  The pin and middle you referred to are amazing, the RS was an All-Region player as a freshman, the libero has great experience and will fit in just fine with the way she plays, and the player who moved from K2 can play all around and would start for any school in the state.

    All facts, not opinions.

This is Siegel's year. I know Williamson County has won AAA for, what 10 or 12 years running, but I think this is the year that streak ends.

Every pre-season it's "Siegel's year".  They dominate Rutherford county then run into Brentwood and realize its not their year.  For the record, Brentwood will succeed for a 7th straight state championship and Siegel will be the Rutherford county champions for however many times in a row it is now.

Good stuff, TT, and that aligns with expectations, mostly. But that 15's / rising 16's group... I just looked how they did at AAU, and they finished 119th out of 151 in club. It doesn't make sense to me that one or more 2022's off this year's 16's group would join them, that's a major step backwards competitively for that / those kid(s).

    Or am I missing something?

I can see where you're coming from but 16's are to important of a year for exposure to skip.  Keep in mind, the three best 2022's (RS, S, & L) were on that team so they have a good start.  Then there's a chance they could see some new bodies move back to Gothic Court.

  8. From what I've heard third hand and directly about rising TPV teams for next the year:

14's - This past year 13's were very weak.  Rumor is the super strong MIdTN team (ranked in top 10 at some points this year) are moving the majority of their team to TPV.  If this happens, that age group becomes a top 2-3 age group for TPV once you mix in a couple existing TPV players in this age.

15's - Solid team but still has work to do.  They've made huge strides but need a couple more athletes to really compete in large "open" tournaments.

16's - The right side from this years 16's will play 16 again so that's a solid start.  The L and S played with this years 16's in spot service so they have experience playing 16 Open.  Rumor is a couple of the better players from Alliance are considering making the move so that will make that team better.

17's -18's - The majority of this years 16's will move up to 18's like you said with a couple Alliance players moving to solidify the 17's and 18's.

TT, you sold yourself short... looks like it was a thrilling day for you guys. Congrats, way to stay alive for that top 10 finish you were hoping for!

That aside, your comment makes me wonder... and it is a question I posed some weeks / months ago... who is left at Alliance that TPV would want? Don't they have everyone?

Separate question: are the Alliance 16 Rens full strength? They are really having a rough time, judging by results. I didn't expect a great result from them, but I expected more than where they'll end up.

We missed the goal for top 10 but the girls played pretty well against national talent.

There are players up and down the age groups that are looking at making the move.  I predict 3-4 of the better players on 16 and up teams will move.  I heard MIdTN's best team (13's) are not happy and could move the whole team to TPV.  If that happens, I could see a situation were a couple of the 13 Alliance players moving too.

Anyone heard of TPV made the gold?  They easily should with that amount of talent. I think they should be a top 4 finish.

We lost and were dropped to Silver.  Hard fought day but a very tough day.

Clifford20, if you think day 3 at Nationals in the Gold rounds in 16 Open should be easy, then you've never seen or had a team play against the talent at that level.  On our court and the two next to us was 2 A5 teams (1 is the #1 over all seed), a OTVA team, Sports Performance (#2 overall seed), United, and our TPV girls all playing at the same time.  Yes, we have talent but so does all the other teams.  At one point we had 28 recruiters around our court watching both teams.

  11. It is very bad.  Where was MidTN?  I heard a rumor that there could be another migration this off season, Murfreesboro to Gothic court.  I agree with you in regards to TPV 14's, they should have been in Open.  If the Alliance director would attend tournaments,  she would realize that none of her clubs should have been in Open this year.

  12. If, before the season, you told Alliance parents on "Open" teams that only two of them would finish in the top half of teams in their class and the rest would finish in the bottom 25% with the majority of wins on the last day of play at Nationals,  they would not consider that showing well.  There 16's went 0-3 today in opening pool play.

  13. So far, these AAU's have really brought the question to the forefront, "Is it better to win one game in Open or drop down a level (or two) to be competitive?".

Alliance has been getting destroyed in the Open division while TPV has won one National championship (congrats to TPV 18) and a 2nd place finish (congrats to TPV 14).

Not much of an article. I think classification is part of the problem. I know when MHS plays Alcoa, Oakland, Fulton, and Catholic in the regular season, the place is packed. When they play some other schools, it's not.  The first two rounds of the playoffs are the same way. If there were more teams in each classification, there would be better games in the early rounds and attendance would go up.

Of course the "back when I played" crowd would think there's not much to the article.  I venture to say the same crowd is the ones who had concussions when they played and can't comprehend the numbers and stats in the article.

Can someone tell me if this is the same Dusty Rhodes that coached in White House in 1997, if so I suggest you research his time there before they asked him to leave.
