  1. There is WAY more to being a 'GREAT' Coach other than wins and losses.

Thusly Rankin is a 'good' Coach, and Coach Q is a GREAT COACH!

That is from someone who did NOT Coach against Rankin but had a son that was a 4 year STARTER for him. Man has the personality of a wooden post and an ego as big as the Hoover Dam out west.

I guarantee Coach Q has way less ex players in jails in the state! Ask Coach R if he can say the same..........or even knows or cares!

Now the loyal Rankin acolytes can pile on!

Rankin can be a real piece of work. A few years ago a gritty Mcminn Central team with a .500 record gave Alcoa a dog fight in the first round of the playoffs. Rankin responded to this by telling the media that Central was "dirty as crap" and went as far as saying that he didnt even want his team to shake hands with Central's players after the game. What kind of coach says that to the media?
  2. I don't have a problem with it at all, although the Soddy Daisy drive is one of those. "you can't get there from here" kind of drives.

Actually on the face of it right now the weakest teams on this schedule appear to be Soddy Daisy William Blount and Heritage. Every other team on the schedule were in the playoffs, with Maryville going to the Semi's and Farragut playing for the Gold Ball. (only Heritage and William Blount beneficiary's of the Super 32 special rule)

Heritage was 5A in 2016, so they did not benefit from the super 32. Granted, they played in an extremely weak region but they still earned it. Having said that, Heritage has improved every year under Hammontree. The same is true for WB, but Heritage is further along than us now in their rebuild. There wont be any easy games in this new region for any team not named Maryville.
  3. Compy , I'm trying to go easy on you cause you sound like a nice young guy , but seriously , you opened yourself up to Every Maryville fan just shaking their head at you by being so arrogant as to think you know more about Coaching than George Quarles ... your " Formula " was so basic and generic , and you've never coached a down , and you've been on Maryville threads all year long trying to convince everybody how Smart you are . We realize that just like a lot of fellows who attach themselves to Maryville every year , you like getting attention . Your non stop look at me posting makes it way too obvious . You really have no clue how Naive you sound to us , and most of us have tried not to blast you too much because of that . Let me Clue you in on something , every Maryville fan on here Knows Football , we've all been through something like this year where Maryville is relevant and is going to go down the wire as far as winning a Championship or coming up just short like this year . We've heard it all , seen it all , thought of it all . We have heard about a " Formula " several times and every time we hear it again we all laugh and shake our heads .

The " Formula " to beating Maryville is very Simple ... You better have more Athletes that can over whelm them , or you better be like them in being a well Coached , disciplined well executed team , with great Play calling ( RavenWood) . I've seen Maryville beat more talented teams over and over , last night they met a much more Talented team . This year was probably a little below Average Maryville team , the fact that Maryville had made it to the Championship Game 12 years in a row is truly remarkable when you think about that . At some point every year Maryville usually faces some team's " Greatest team ever " and to have the kind of success Maryville and Coach Quarles has had is unbelievable .

Do ya reckon Maryville will reload with enough Heritage and WB kids to win another state title next year?
  4. First of all, congratulations to Oakland for winning against a very tough opponent.

Now, Compton, you, like some from West Tennesseeans in years past make a big deal out of Maryville's "mystique". There is no mystique about their success. I have watched Maryville for afar and up close for their entire run. Alcoa's as well. And a few other teams over the years, like Cleveland during their great run of the 90's.

The real answer is a great coach, a good system, people who buy in, and some talented players. THAT is ALL. Maryville is beatable, has always been beatable, but to do so you had to have a better team, a great coaching staff to get them ready, and go out and play. That has been the hard thing to find, better teams, who do that.

IF Maryville really had that "Mystique" they would not have lost 2 of the last 4 Championship games. :) Time to stop being jealous of success and recognize someone doing something that is VERY hard to do like Maryville and Alcoa have done.

Last night Oakland proved to be the better team. Now they got to prove they are the best by winning one more game.

Um, there is definitely a mystique around Maryville. Most teams that go into a game with Maryville are already defeated in their own minds before kickoff -or- they go in thinking they can win if they make big plays and try to force it instead of just playing their game. How many good teams have we seen play Maryville and make all kinds of uncharacteristic mistakes and try to do too much? For example, a great running team completely abandoning the run game after they get down a score or two and passing themselves right into a blowout loss.

I agree that the call was bad. In fact, there were more bad calls than that. Having said that, Maryville still had a chance to win in overtime and didnt get it done. Therefore they lost. How can a bad call in regulation lose the game when the game goes to overtime?
