Rankin can be a real piece of work. A few years ago a gritty Mcminn Central team with a .500 record gave Alcoa a dog fight in the first round of the playoffs. Heritage was 5A in 2016, so they did not benefit from the super 32. Granted, they played in an extremely weak region but they still earned it. Having said that, Heritage has improved every year under Hammontree. The same is true for WB, but Heritage is further along than us now in their rebuild. There wont be any easy games in this new region for any team not named Maryville.

Um, there is definitely a mystique around Maryville. Most teams that go into a game with Maryville are already defeated in their own minds before kickoff -or- they go in thinking they can win if they make big plays and try to force it instead of just playing their game. How many good teams have we seen play Maryville and make all kinds of uncharacteristic mistakes and try to do too much? For example, a great running team completely abandoning the run game after they get down a score or two and passing themselves right into a blowout loss.

This is Maryville's first semifinals loss since 2003 or 2004 if I remember correctly. That's crazy if you think about it.

I agree that the call was bad. In fact, there were more bad calls than that. Having said that, Maryville still had a chance to win in overtime and didnt get it done. Therefore they lost. How can a bad call in regulation lose the game when the game goes to overtime?
