I love these forums cause of all the assumptions people make. You know what they say about the word assume. I’ll let you figure that out.

Everyone in East Tennessee knows the Science Hill coaches surely do NOT follow a code of ethics.  Its win at all costs.  Plus they "own" a few of the Region 1 officials, three of them, in fact, with the same last name.

Science Hill envy much? Sounds like sour grapes to me.

I don't want to be the one who points out the obvious here but Science Hill had what appeared to be their full lineup tonight.  Looks like someone found some miracle drugs and cured all those wrestlers from flu in less than two days.  Amazing!!!

Sure was a lot of forfeiting going on across the state tonight. All the people on here flapping gums about this particular thread sure have a lot of crow to chew on! :hungry: :thumb:

This post was stupid and we are all more stupid for reading it. Thanks. Oh and tell the other 7 kids to quit since they don't deserve the mat time or the experience.

And your opinion means what exactly? I don’t think I will pay any mind to a person calling themselves McNugget.  It is what it is. A coach made a decision he thought was best for his kids! If the parents are not up in arms over it, then everyone else can take their comments and opinions and go kick rocks! Thank you for trying to be involved!

Well, well, well, it seems you folks have created a mess over there!  I would also like to know why the other 8 didn't wrestle.  Was the host coach given a heads up or was this sprung on him at match time?

Please allow me to clarify another item here (I also have access to the CDC):

    When Flu Spreads

People with flu are most contagious in the first three to four days after their illness begins.  Most healthy adults may be able to infect others beginning 1 day before symptoms develop and up to 5 to 7 days after becoming sick. Children and some people with weakened immune systems may  pass the virus for longer than 7 days.

Symptoms can begin about 2 days (but can range from 1 to 4 days)  after the virus enters the body. That means that you may be able to pass on the flu to someone else before you know you are sick, as well as while you are sick. Some people can be infected with the flu virus but have no symptoms. During this time, those people may still spread the virus to others.

Mayo Clinic states otherwise and it says 24 hours. So Tomato, Tamato.

just cause Im curious. it was said they brought 8 right? why only wrestle one if you bring 8? I imagine the ones that were sick stayed home and didn't even bother going

I couldn’t tell you how may where there cause I wasn’t there. From what I gather it was one experienced kid and a bunch of inexperienced kids. Would you put your inexperienced kids out in shark infested waters if you didn’t need to? To me it boils down to a team licking their chops to beat up on inexperienced kids, Science Hill chose not to use their kids as bait and they got the W they so desperately wanted, just not how they planned it out. Sometimes when you play stupid games you win stupid prizes.

Good point and given all this wonderful information Norse, am I correct to assume Science Hill will again be forfeiting their matches tomorrow to Tennessee High & David Crockett.  If your coaches must make the best decision for your kids, using your timeline and medical knowledge, your team will still have the flu and will be highly contagious tomorrow.

Incubation period of two days means for symptoms to appear. And three days on average to be contagious. So contracting flu Saturday, and we are on Wednesday that’s four days. Good try on being a smart butt. So you are also saying that the coaches made the best decision in their opinion for their kids. Sometimes making the right decision outweighs what the popular decision is.

If it was this dire, why even show up at all?  Haven't the coaches and staff also been exposed to the flu? Why not just call and forfeit the entire dual?  Why bring 8 wrestlers and only wrestle the one match you are sure of winning?  Why not shake hands?  Why not give the opposing coach a heads up?  All questions that have no valid answer in this situation because your coaching staff decided to throw a temper tantrum in front of the entire state and make our great sport look bad in the process.

Did Science Hill practice on Monday?  Will they be practicing today?  The answer to these two questions should tell the entire story.  I am pretty sure I know the answer to the first and if it was SO bad that you are so concerned with "exposing" more, then why is your team still practicing?

These kids were around each other all day Saturday. Most were diagnosed on Sunday. The average incubation period for flu is two days. Let’s do some math. Diagnosed Sunday plus two days would put us to yesterday at best, today, which is Wednesday would be two plus full days. Was there practice Monday, not to my knowledge. There is usually more going on than others realize. People put their kids in a coaches hands to make the best decision for their kids regardless of what others may do or say. Btw still waiting on reply for your comment last year over the “same” issue.

You have no idea what the DB coaching staff had in mind at Region Duals, but to imply they were only wrestling the matches they could win is a childish stab. I've watched as your coaching staff has moved kids around in the lineup to create the best advantage for your team, so why do you feel the need to throw barbs at other coaches for doing what they feel is best for their team. There were quite a few changes to your lineup as well. Many that were probably unnecessary to win the match but no one is berating you for trying to run up the score. I applaud the DB coaches for having enough class and maturity to overlook your jabs, immaturity, and ignore your post. I know the DB coaching staff is "new," but you might want to pay attention, there are some things you can learn from them.

Funny how one team can forfeit out matches after realizing they can’t win a dual, but another team does so for the well being of their kids health and it’s an issue. It doesn’t matter if there were 5 or 50 kids on the team. All were exposed to flu! Why on God’s green earth would you want to expose more kids at this time of year? It’s not like moving the dual to next week would affect anything. Sounds like someone was trying to cash in on one team’s misfortune and it backfired.

  10. Kingsport paper reads a lot of kids from Science Hill were sick with flu. It also says Science Hill asked to reschedule the dual only to be denied. My question is why wasn’t the dual rescheduled? Why would a coach want a team full of sick kids coming to their place, therefore spreading the virus? And what small memories we have. Didn’t DB do something very similar at region duals last year, with healthy kids? I guess pride is more important than kids health and well being.

And here CBG and OW you have plenty of time to get your team together so no daddy ball issues can happen! I thank you king Greene for putting a team together and for representing the state of TN well! I know some kids that couldn’t make it because it was Easter weekend AND some had plans already to leave because it was spring break for lots of counties also, I am sure you were so happy to do this instead of not taking a team at all, but it seems that OW and CBG would rather not have a team at all go if the beat wasn’t able to make it, never mind some of those kids that got some valuable mat time that they needed!

    Spot on!

  13. 28 minutes ago, ObserverW said:

You nailed it CBG.  This is a problem in all sports including wrestling in Tennessee.  Those who fail to recognize it have their heads in the sand, either because they don't want to believe it (as it seems with Corbra) or because it conveniently suits their needs (as it seems with Norse).  Will calling them out on CoachT fix it, probably not but if enough people are aware then maybe we can move in the right direction to change.

And don't give me the line about last minute, not enough time, etc. etc.  They had more than ample time to make phone calls and ask the most deserving wrestlers.  If they received a decline and had to take their own team by default, then so be it, but I know for a fact this is not the case.

As for volunteering to coach.  If you believe there is an open invitation by Tennessee AAU for anyone who wants to help, then you have had your head in the sand much longer than I thought.  If you haven't noticed, TN AAU is a very tight knit fraternity and just because someone, as you suggest, is willing to volunteer to coach does not mean they are open to allowing it.

I don't know you or your son but it is obvious you have a wrestler on the team and I get the feeling you are taking offense because you are inferring that someone believes maybe your kid specifically wasn't deserving.  Lets be clear--I'm not bashing your kid.  I wasn't talking about one wrestler in particular and moreover, I didn't say anyone was undeserving.  I said there are wrestlers who had earned the right and were MORE deserving than some chosen.  But you strengthen your message even more with your foolish comment about someone having a good day.  HAHAHAHA!  So is this your message?  The wrestlers that earned a state medal must have gotten lucky at the state tournament and the non-medalist "may have just been off a bit on that particular day"?   I see now, the whole NorseFlake ideal that everyone deserves to participate regardless of their results.  You keep sticking your own foot in your mouth, maybe its time you power down the computer and let the adults have a conversation.

LOL! You continue to amuse me. Keep smoking whatever it is your on. If it makes you feel better about yourself to bash me that’s fine. Your opinion to me and many others is meaningless. I’m thinking you have a bad case of little man syndrome! It’s ok little fella not everyone can see things from all sides and be open minded.

Norseflake, I hope you are not a defense lawyer because you would have several clients in jail.  You are basically confirming everything we are saying about how the team was chosen.  NO, we were not around when the teams were put together.  My point exactly.  No one is berating the coaches for not putting in their time and effort, we all appreciate the fact that coaches are volunteering.  But just as you say, none of us were asked to coach the team.  The issue lies with the fact that not having a coach on the team should not eliminate a wrestler from consideration for the team.  I don't think any of the wrestlers on the team felt that they didn't deserve to be there, those who felt slighted were the ones who had beaten others on the team or finished ahead of them at region/state and are sitting home because they didn't get a chance to wrestle-off for the spot.  If logistics wouldn't allow for a wrestle-off (which is an invalid excuse, wrestlers would have made the trip, if there is one thing wrestling parents don't mind its a road trip for wrestling) but lets just say it wasn't possible, at the very least, an email to all the coaches in the state could have been drafted to determine interest.  At that point go from top down.  Medalists get first right of refusal.  It is pretty simple.  Or, there are only 14 weight classes, beginning with the top placing freshmen/sophomores, it might have taken 25 phone calls/text messages to get the MOST deserving wrestlers on the team. And yes I said it!  There were wrestlers who were MORE deserving who were not given the opportunity.

Its obvious that your son was chosen for the team and very peculiar that you are so quick to defend the selection method.  Lets assume your son is one of the medalists who was the top freshman/sophomore in his weight class, if he was left at home would you be on here defending the selection method?

I hope that my non-inclusive statements do not force you to your safe place.

Unobservent moron! You make my point yet again! You are obviously ignorant at best because of your little jabs. Your assumptions make you sound like a complete idiot, as usual. As said before you don’t like it stop being the snowflake libtard you obviously are, pull up your big girl panties and start helping out by making a difference vs spouting off at the mouth. You are quick to say nasty things to people not knowing them from the next guy. You call me the snowflake but yet you were the first to get on here whining and crying. I promise you every kid on the team DID feel like they belonged there. Ergo them traveling to do so. Now to address your “deserving “ comments. Yes some kids may have had a a state medal, but just maybe someone had one good day when another guy may have been off just a bit on that particular day. It’s funny that this is even an issue. Maybe you are the one who has their feelings hurt cause your little Johnny didn’t get to go. By the way you probably wouldn’t last five minutes in places I have been, take your safe place and take a wild guess what you can do with it! I have tried to be cordial with you more than once but your ignorance reigns supreme.

Maybe I did have a kid on the team maybe I didn’t. I would defend any coach who did what they thought best for a team, regardless of the team! My kid has been left off of teams like this before. Guess what? I told him if he didn’t like it to go and get better! It does absolutely zero good to piss and moan about crap like this. Period! For the record your non-inclusive statements are entertaining to me cause you obviously have lost some brain cells along the way.

I can promise you, not all medalists were called. Not even close. And his point is spot on, excuse of lack of time is not a valid excuse. We are talking about kids that felt the EARNED the chance to represent the state.

Again opinions are like buttholes. We all know the rest of the story. I’m pretty certain none of us were around when these teams were put together. I honestly could care less who was or was not on this team. I was just pointing out the fact that these guys who volunteered their time should not be called out because they didn’t pick the most popular kid in the room. Seriously how many of you were asked to coach this team? Maybe there is a reason for that. If it bothers you this bad step up and make an actual difference vs whining on some forum and calling out those who volunteer their time. Also, you’re telling me the kids who went didn’t feel they “deserved “ to represent the state? I honestly don’t know why I’m wasting my time debating with people who know everything about everything.

I wasn't the one who named anyone specifically but I 100% agree that there were wrestlers who were left off the team, that were never asked to participate, who finished higher at state than others who were on the team.  Does that make anyone not deserving to be on the team, no BUT it was a disservice to those who were left off!  Call it semantics or whatever you please, but if it hurts your feelings by saying someone who finished ahead of another in the state tournament is more deserving, then maybe you need to get out of your snowflake bubble.  If I finish with a state medal and you do not, then I DESERVE to be offered the spot before you do.  Sorry if you feel that is negative but that's just the facts bro.

I think it is great that all our National teams had success in Iowa, but again I MUST be left to wonder what might have been IF we had given ourselves the best opportunity to win with the best available wrestlers.

Snowflake!  LOL, I promise you I’m the furthest thing from it. Your smart comments really prove exactly what I’m saying. You don’t know me from Adam but yet you feel you can throw a low blow without knowing me. I promise I’ve done more in my life in 11 years of my life on earth than most of you could even begin to fathom. Anyhow,  I’m definitely not disagreeing with you on a state champ or even possibly a medalist not being offered a spot. I wasn’t there when calls were being made as I’m assuming neither were you! Rest assured I’m pretty certain that all potential candidates were considered. Maybe it was poor wording and I misunderstood what you meant be deserving. Due to the size of our state it is virtually unfair in any circumstance. As they say if a frog had wings, I’m sure you know the rest. Anyhow it is what is and there will never be something in place to make everyone happy. Have a good night, enjoy the bantering.

  17. Some are more “deserving “ than the kids that went? Two kids were called by name in a previous post, not to mention other threads. I didn’t say you called them out personally Purple Wrestler. I completely understand where you guys are coming from, I honestly do. Just don’t get why anything was said to begin with. Just get behind the team from the get go. Most will not travel to middle TN for one maybe two matches for a what if trip to Iowa. Just step back and look at what’s been said from the other side of the fence if you are able to do so with no bias. It’s never going to be a perfect system no matter how you look at it. It’s sad that you can’t get on here and have discussion without all the negativity.

  18. Lost 32-31, medical forfeit. Struck a nerve? Not at all. Just sad that people think they know all,  but obviously haven’t a clue. You bash kids and coaches alike but are nowhere to be found when it comes to solutions. You want wrestle offs? Why is it everyone must travel to Nashville for a wrestle off? How is that “fair” to the kids who would have to travel 5 hours for one match, maybe two? Absolutely ludicrous! My question is where you personally around any of these coaches when the teams were made? I’m guessing not. Do you know what the word assume means? How about they just turn TSSAA and AAU over to you cause you obviously have all the solutions to fix it all? You are obviously never wrong so I won’t be wasting my time with you any longer. As previously stated, find a new hobby that doesn’t involve bashing coaches and kids! You are the type of person that drives people away. Obviously you are not happy with these teams success. If you were you would be singing a different tune by not continuing to troll people and actually say supportive things. If you are that butthurt about this topic or other things in the state, well that’s easy, MOVE somewhere else! Have a great day!

  19. So what makes someone more “deserving” than someone else? Considering the coaches had a very short window to put a team together I would dare say this is a pretty solid lineup. For some reason I have the feeling some would be upset regardless of who was on the team or how it was put together. Absolutely zero reason to name any child by name. The powers that be picked the coaches who they felt could put a team together and quickly. Most would agree that this team is not what some of you personally wanted so you are now personally attacking the coaches who are giving their time and bad mouthing kids. This is high school wrestling for goodness sake! Offseason at that. Get a life, a job or find a different hobby vs constantly putting yourself on your high horse! Seriously, where are you putting in time and dedication to these kids vs giving your opinion? Obviously  no one cares what you have to say on the subject. If you had any relevance someone would have asked you to coach or what your thoughts were. Opinions  are like buttholes, some stink worse than others! Btw both teams are 3-0 this far!

Appreciate the vote of confidence, but a lot of things have to come together for us to make it..... starting with beating Central in R1.    Boone has never beaten a Knoxville team, so this would be a first.     I would say Boone/Central is 50-50

That goes for any team though. If Boone plays the way they are capable and the way they did against THS they will be tough to handle. Pulling for the local guys until we play each other, if that were to happen.
