  1. ECS in Memphis is open. Supposedly looking to bring someone in from outside the area.
  2. That is very interesting for sure. Any idea if that was already voted on or just on the table? If it hasn't been voted when will they vote and when will it go into effect?
  3. My apologies, I assumed when you said "broke one" you meant he scored a TD which didn't happen until the 4th (after the mercy rule had already been implemented). So what did you mean by "broke one" exactly? I also love how you continuously speak of the "Memphis hype bubble" as if Memphis was overrated, which can't be what you mean after Memphis won four state titles. I'm not even one of those guys who thinks Memphis is the greatest thing on earth, but hard to argue that collectively Memphis had the best high school football in Tennessee this year. It also fascinates me that you regularly speak as if Gray is just a decent back when he scorched your team for over 250 yards on 15-20 carries.
  4. I have seen him. He is ignorant to say the least. I would love for him to say who he thinks Walker should be ahead of in the mr football voting. Other than the finalists, St George's, Lausanne, and Harding all have others who would be ahead of him IMO. My favorite part of his championship prediction was that he said Webb wins by 14+ if they don't have turnovers or something if that nature but Lausanne is the one who had 4 turnovers and still won.
  5. One in the 4th quarter against their scrubs? That's what you hang your hat on? You clearly don't know what great running back play looks like. He is a good running back but to say he was snubbed from getting a mr football nomination is just ridiculous. Multiple guys in Memphis who didn't make the cut would be above him.
  6. I'm assuming that is their #6? If so, who should he have been ahead of for mr football? I would argue there were multiple other backs ahead of him in the pecking order for mr football this year. He was a good rb. Great? Not so much.
  7. Fairly young team, especially on defense. I think it will be very hard to score points on them next year. And in my opinion they have the best coaching staff in the state. Plus, where's the fun in picking the same schools each year?? Lol
  8. Agree. I think it will be Webb and Lausanne the next 3-4 years (obviously upsets will occur and this won't actually happen every year in the championship game). Both teams are just so good and young. Of course the teams coming over from D1 will have something to say about that. In D2-AAA, I'm gonna step out on a limb and go Ensworth-MUS. Would have to take a deeper look into D2-A before making any sort of prediction.

  10. No worries, don't think you came off as disrespectful or anything if that nature. As a follower of West TN high school football, especially the private schools, your MUS insight is appreciated!
  11. Has anyone heard of any intriguing out-of-division matchups that will take place next season in the Memphis area? Or statewide for that matter. It would be cool to see some of the top programs from different divisions play each other. I know it will be a while before official schedule come out.
  12. Great insight about MUS especially as someone who isn't "in the know" about everything they do like myself. Like I said previously, I expect them to be a state title contender in 2017. As for CBHS and locastro, I actually think it was the other way around as far as other sports were concerned, particularly baseball. Football players regular play both football and basketball, track, or soccer(mainly kickers). The CBHS baseball coach, from what I hear, requires players to play 40-50 summer league baseball games each year or risk getting cut from the team. Wouldn't consider myself extremely knowledgeable about that whole situation, but what I have heard from people who are knowledgeable is that he was let go because he wanted to bring in athletes and administration felt it would damage the schools reputation. It seems it may have been time for both parties to go their own ways, and I doubt locastro is too upset after finally winning a state title, albeit in the lower division and CBHS people seem excited m about mcdaniels being the coach now.
  13. Agree with most of what you said. Briarcrest was better than they have been in a while and were relatively young. Should be back in the mix for sure in the West, don't think they'll be in the talk for state championship. MUS was also young and may very well have the best coaching staff in the state. They will contend for the gold ball next year. CBHS has always amazed me as well. I do not understand how they are not yearly contenders to win, but I wouldn't expect much to change moving into next year unless they make some drastic changes. Right on point with SBA; large school who doesn't put necessary resources into football. IMO, what really hurts the DII west large schools is the presence of very good smaller DII schools (St. George's, Harding, Lausanne, ECS, etc.) Obviously east TN teams deal with this also, but for the most part those small schools don't pull nearly as many athletes as the top schools. This year, St. George's, Harding, and Lausanne could've competed with or beaten any West DII-AA team.
  14. What beats the wing t? Athleticism and speed. Memphis teams proved that all weekend. When teams don't run the veer/triple option out of it, athletic ability destroys the wing t.
  15. The problem I have with what you have said in the previous posts is saying Gray would be 4th string on Webb. I can absolute accept that Howard may be a once in a generation type player, and for you to say he is better than Gray is definitely reasonable. To your question about offers, Gray currently holds offers from LSU, Miami, Colorado, and Michigan, per the commercial appeal in Memphis. From what I've heard around town (obviously not the most credible sources), he went to Ohio St a few weeks ago and Bama has been begging him to come visit (I completely understand this is not an offer). I think what's getting lost in all this debate is that tomorrow should be a great show between two great running backs and teams in general. I really look forward to watching this one.
  16. Agree with this. As I said, three very good backs, but IMO it's disrespectful to say Gray would be 4th string (I know you are not the one who said it.) Obviously stats are not the end all be all but his really could've been better but in most games he played a half or less along with sharing carries with a running QB. I hope this doesn't come off as disrespectful, but I'd personally take Gray over any of their 3, including Howard.

  18. No doubt they are all good but IMO Gray is better than them. Agree to disagree I suppose. I'm just pumped for Thursday
  19. That is just false. Gray is the best rb in the division, maybe the state, especially his grade. He did just win Mr Football and has the likes of Alabama and Ohio State recruiting him. I can accept your prediction though, as I too believe it'll be a great game.
  20. In my opinion, Webb does have the coaching advantage, but by a very slim margin. You don't just stumble upon 7 state titles. Coach Locastro is a phenomenal one as well though. From what I gather, he also believes this is the best staff he has had behind him in all his years. Have to remember that coaching is not only at the top. This may or may not play a factor, but with Webb having a lot of two way players, it will be harder to make in game adjustments before halftime. Lausanne on the other hand can make changes while the other side of the ball is on the field. You made a great point about Webb chewing the clock which helps eliminate the depth advantage. If they can sustain long drives and not get forced into 3 and outs they will be in better shape. Lausanne will play fast offensively to try and wear down Webb when they are on defense.
  21. Right around 50 with very few playing both ways which I think gives Lausanne an advantage. Didn't Webb have an LB injured? If that's the case will he be playing do you know?
  22. Not talking about you or downtowncharlie in particular. Just others on the message boards. Just frustrating to see some try to put them down due to their success. Have you had the chance to do much research on Lausanne? If so, what are your thoughts? Like I said before, I foresee it being very competitive down to the end
  23. I have also spoken to their coaches. From what I gather, he was a starter but continuously busts his assignment which has reduced him to a back up role in recent weeks. Still gets plenty of playing time but not a "starter". I was shocked by this because seeing him on the field he just seems to make plays. He will occasionally play RB at the end of games, but nothing significant. As someone who has followed the school (along with many other Memphis teams) all year, I hate to see people trash them on here as if they are cheating.
  24. While I understand people's frustration with the fact that Lausanne co-ops with Power Center, it is foolish for everyone to act like most of their team does not go to school at Lausanne. They have one player who gets meaningful playing time (doesn't start) on defense, none on offense, and 2-3 on special teams. Clearly this is an advantage but it is not as if they have "city school athletes with private school coaching" as you say. As for the actual game, I believe it will be a great one. Personally, I believe Lausanne pulls it out but will not be shocked to see it go the other way. Lausanne has played multiple other wing T teams this season (obviously none as good as Webb) but they have at least seen which can't hurt. I also believe that others on the board underestimate Lausanne's team speed. Clearly Webb will have the fastest guy on the field but I think after that it is a push. I'll go Lausanne 34 Webb 31
