TSSAA gonna have to get a handle on all the transfers. Unfortunately that’s the society we live in today. People want everything to be like travel ball where you can just pick up and leave if you don’t like the team your on.

Mustang, it ALREADY IS like travel ball in some parts. Go Jackets!

  2. 5A was BY FAR the deepest classification of all 9 TN classes. I honestly felt like there were abt 10 teams (Knox Central, Knox West, South Doyle, Henry Co, Beech, Gallatin, Summit, Page, Shelbyville, Powell) that had a very realistic shot a winning it all when the playoffs started as long as they played well. There were also a couple of other teams (think Dyer Co) you could have possibly added to this list as well that had an outside shot and would've had to play the best 5 games of their season to have a chance.

I was impressed with both teams today.

Call me crazy, but I think both teams, along with South pitt can play with both of these 5A teams.

STOP! Yes, someone needs to check him in. Put him in a padded room. He IS officially crazy.

No offense to LC, SP or GB but the talent gap bt 1A championship teams and 5A teams is MUCH bigger than you realize.

Congratulations on a great season to both Greenback and Lake County!

There IS A REASON they are divided into different classifications. Go Jackets

  4. Great game F5! Yall showed why your program is one of the top programs in TN, regardless of classification!

Great season Firebirds, keep your heads held high. Many will say they could have played the F5 better than y'all and everyone in the west had their opportunity, but didnt take advantage of it. Coulda, shoulda, woulda! PC takes home the silver!

Back to Alcoa, yr in and yr out, they are one of the best teams in the state. They would win 4A almost every yr, 5A lots of yrs and 6A some yrs and that's the truth. Much respect for your program!!!

Pearl Cohn stopped tryin first series when they got punched in the nose.  Put Rankin at Pearl Cohn, let him recruit a little bit get some of them "magnet kids" and he would win state titles in Music City no doubt.

Repoman, Rankin could/would DEF win state titles in Music City with the talent walking the halls at PC, but I dont believe he cares anything abt winning the spelling bee or math Bowl. That's what the "magnet kids" you're referring to would most likely be used for.

Being a fan of PC I can understand your pride with your marching band. I announce ball games on the radio. When I have come in as the visitor, a couple of schools forced me to broadcast from a table outside right behind a band. When one is there trying to do a job, having the band jammed in your ear playing the entire game is obnoxious and unnerving. You see, I am just looking at things from a different perspective. Also, where I grew up bands playing during the course of a game is considered very unsportsmanlike. Bands can play play all they want at half time, before and after the game, and in between quarters and scores and I have zero problem with it. Sadly it has also drowned out the commentary on the TV. That is however a problem that can be fixed on site in a production truck

I'm a Springfield fan, but always had respect for the PC program since we (Springfield) moved to 4A in the fall of 95 and having played against the 96 and 97 PC teams. That being said, I gained a respect for their band as well bc they were jamming the whole time we played.

In your situation as an announcer, I do understand how someone would be VERY upset at the band playing during the entire game. As far as a school forcing you outside right behind the band to announce, to me, that's worse than the band playing during game. Go Jackets!!!

I don't care whether it's legal or not, bands playing while the game is going on is wrong. The band playing in the 3A a game is just about drowning out the announcers at times on the TV.

You DO NOT EVER need to go watch Memphis Whitehaven play a game if the Pearl Cohn band offends you or any HS that would be considered HBCU ish for that matter.Keep jamming PC band, I wish I was there to hear it!

this is an ugly mismatch. Pearl Cohn would lose to the top 4 teams in 1A (Greenback, South Pitt, Lake County, Huntingdon) and the top 4 teams in 2A (Forrest, Peabody, Meigs, Trousdale)

General, STOP! I've saw PC firsthand a couple of times this yr and went to watch TC once. Alcoa has a way of making really good teams look not very good, but to say that PC would lose to the top 4 in 1A and 2A, WOULD NOT HAPPEN! Don't kid yourself. Btw, I do like your name, one of the most underrated Generals and military tacticians in American history.

LC only had 8 because of penalties and missed opportunities.

They are the most complete 1A team in the state this year.  I am biased but I believe Huntingdon would have beat Greenback as well.

CONGRATULATIONS LAKE COUNTY!!! Yall have a heck of a team. Not a fan of either school but GB was dominated ALL GAME. That being said, with a few big plays, some LC self inflicted wounds, and a huge discrepancy in penalties called, GB still had a chance until the pick 6. It seemed as the refs had an obvious bias in favor of GB but LC kept fighting and enforcing their will at the LOS. BCB-MVP should be cut in half for Snyder and Puckett!

Looks like outside of 4A Crockett Co, Huntingdon kept it closer than anyone else this yr.

Congratulations again on a great season to both Greenback and Lake County. Go Jackets!!!

I’d bet the rules were different in the early 90s.

That's right, and with that being said, "Lil" Kramer wrestled 60+ matches every yr for the last 4 yrs, wrestling 69 his freshman yr so 70+ isn't some unreachable number during the mid 90's or even now for that matter.

Right but normally they keep metro schools together. We never understood how Springfield goes West and Maplewood goes East. Even though maplewood won the district last year they want out that district badly. I cant remember the last time middle tn went East

FB26, Maplewood is in Reg 4 and Springfield is in Reg 5. Regions 1-4 are east and Regions 5-8 are west. Most schools in regions 1-4 are east of I-65(Maplewood)and most schools in regions 5-8 are west of I-65(Springfield). However, there are a few schools that this I-65 rule dont apply to (White House and portland are the ones close to me that I know of) but they are within a couple miles of the interstate and the majority of region 5 is west of I-65, same as most of region 4 is east of I-65.

Both Hartley's, Stressman, Roberts, Morton, Holly's, Avery to name a few. All have a huge impact on this team.

The fact is that young athletes want to be competitive and have a chance to win, Elizabethton gave the county kids the best chance to win, no recruiting needed. Would you rather play for a county school where you are getting put out in the first or second round, or play for a team that has a chance at state?

Etown, Only took you 5 days to be able to name 7 players for him. Mtester, thank you for verifying Etown's content accuracy. Let me be the first to welcome you to the T.

I am confident. Springfield has benefitted from a watered down 4a west side of the bracket. It is what it is they won the geographic lottery. Wish Marshall's region would have been sent West. We would have a couple of silver balls in the trophy case. All the mid-state teams I listed we have played or scrimmaged the last 4 years. I am more than knowledgable on their abilities and how they would match up against Springfield.

Y'all (MC) had a good regular season and beat us pretty good at our place but for whatever reason got beat by a team(DeKalb Co) who wasnt nearly as good as yall, IMO. They were on that night and that's it, but thats all it had to be. Your team should have played Nolensville in the quarters but... After yall beat us, our kids turned the corner. We lost one more game (to Mont Cent) 13-10 in the mud when their 270lb RB had like 53 carries. Their coaches couldn't have ordered a better set of circumstances for that game. After that, we've beaten everyone weve played including Hardin Co and Haywood.

Like I said, there is a big difference in a beating a team early/midway thru the yr and beating them late in the season. Virtually every good team keeps improving throughout the year, they dont stay where they are. If they do, their basketball season starts earlier than it should.

The last 4 yrs mean absolutely 0 when trying to compare teams from this season. Heck, some teams aren't nowhere near where they'll be by THIS seasons end.

Ask Henry Co how watered down Haywood was this yr.

I know you're upset abt what could have been, but the GC, Milan, Fairview, Stratford AND Marshall County Tiger teams that played their last games this season DONT beat the Springfield team that beat Haywood last week. Good Luck Firebirds!!! Sorry abt the long reply and wrong thread

East Nashville couldn't even beat Stratford. I think Stratford would end up beating Springfield myself.

Rivalry game is your answer to the EN/Stratford game! The Stratford that got beat by GC in the playoffs (I went and watched that crap firsthand and wished I would've went to watch a dozen other games) ain't coming within 3TD's of Springfield.

    Pearl

    Covington

    South Gibson

    Giles Co.

    Stratford

Possibly Milan and Fairview this year.

We played Springfield this year so I am well aware of what they bring to the table. 3A in the West is significantly stronger than 4a

I apologize in advance Firebird fans and Goons, but who's we? PC and Covington, ok, possibly. I didnt see SG play this yr. Giles Co probably not, Stratford, NOPE. You would have had a MUCH better argument with EN than either of the your last 2 or your 2 "possibles". EN has all the talent in the world but just cant get beat PC. Good Luck Firebirds and Yellow Jackets!!!

Teams out West would better be served playing in 4A than 3A at the present time. If a team like Springfield can make it to Cookeville. There are at least 5 3A teams from the West this year that would have beaten Springfield.

D12AA, which 5? Obviously you're gonna say PC and Covington. Who are the other 3 you think would beat Springfield this yr? Btw, this yr as in August or September, dont count the same as beating them in November. Good Luck Firebirds!

Tell ya what, fellas, Coach Wilson has done a heck of a Coaching job this year.   After the loss to Marshall County I didn't see this as a possibility.  He's a great Coach and he loves his program!

No doubt, Coach Wilson is a great coach. That being said, IMHO, this season is BY FAR the best job he has ever done. This team was expected by many to go to the playoffs and possibly win one game. Very few people expected them to advance past rd2 of the playoffs and virtually no one expected them to beat Hardin Co, much less Haywood. And yet, here they are again with a chance to win a state championship. Go Jackets!!!

The facts are Elizabethton plays within the rules just as Springfield. The facts are many HS teams bring in players from within their county borders. They pay tuition. Many of those teams will play this weekend. I don't hear any coaches using your excuse.

Again, I don't know who wins. I'm pulling for Elizabethton... The facts are getting to this game is very difficult and Springfield has an advantage of being here before. If they win, that will not be the excuse. They were the better team.

Betsy plays within the rules of their county (open zone) and Springfield plays within the rules of their county (closed zone). Are these anywhere close to equal? Not even close! Yes, a county kid in Carter Co can pay $300 and go to the school of his choice (what parent of a good athlete couldn't come up with $300 for their kid to be on a good team). Yes, you're correct, several teams playing this weekend will be open zoned schools and a few aren't (which to me makes their run that much more impressive).

Most good coaches aren't on the T during the week, they are breaking down film and installing a gameplan for the next opponent. The so-called advantage of being here before was two yrs ago. This is a totally different team. This teams seniors were sophomores who probably didnt contribute very much that season. That being said, I like your teams advantage over my teams "advantage". I just hope the Jackets can keep it close next Saturday. If we keep it close and can stay within a score or 2, I like our chances. Go Jackets!!!
