  1. Looking at the matchups in Single A I don't feel that Greeneville is a shoe in.  There is definitely some comparisons to be made to DB's team last year.  Clint and Tre Morrisette, Jackson Hurst, and Brennan Watkins as the big four.  Whitley was their fifth.    Greeneville has an even more impressive big four that likely go undefeated in Mason, Cannedy, and the Dupill brothers.  Leandre is their fifth.  Going to be interesting to see how their role players react.   I think Fairview, likely in the semis, and PF (only if they make the finals) in particular could cause problematic matchups.

    A few things...

    1. I have been told that Jojo and Carson wrestled a few years ago with Uhorchuk winning. Don't know if that is true? Regardless, I know that was a few years ago.

It is true as I just found the match and it took place 12/2018 with Uhorchuk wining 2-1.  As cowcatcher noted Uhorchuk won the 2021 NHSCAs in Virginia beach as well.  I'm going amend my original thoughts on the match after watching videos again on Flo of Jojo.  I think Carson wins the rematch via decision or major.  TF is likely out of the question.  Link to their match just below.

    Mitch24,

I'm not positive how they will seed the duals this year under the new format, but I see Greeneville as the clear favorite. Signal Mtn. likely has the best chance to knock them off from all of the other teams in the field for both duals and traditionals, but we can't count Foreman's boys out either. If PF has everyone healthy, they could give Signal Mtn. a run for their money. I like both SM and PF as my 2 and 3 teams with defending champ Fairview just slightly behind. One of those 3 will make the finals to wrestle G'ville. Someone outside of those making the finals would be a big surprise. A LOT would need to go wrong for G'ville not to win though. So I have my state dual finals between the star-studded Devils and Uhorchuk Mountain playing out something like this...

106 -- Jojo Uhorchuk dec. Carson Dupill (3-0 SM), MATCH OF THE YEAR IN ANY DIVISION!!! I plan to make the drive just to watch this match. Could go either way, but Jojo steals a close one due to his advantage on the mat.

    113 --  E. Uhorchuk pins R. Johnson (9-0 SM)

120 -- C. Uhorchuk maj. dec. L. Dabney (13-0 SM), State finals rematch, could be interesting if Dabney can get that opening TD

    126 -- N. Shriner pins C. Johnson (19-0 SM)

    132 -- Owens dec. E. Dabney (22-0 SM)

138 -- Bryant dec. Jennings (25-0 SM), honestly don't know much about these two, just making the pick based off results this year

    145 -- Mason pins Davis (25-6 SM)

152 -- Colin Dupill pins Jenkins (25-12 SM)

160 -- Murray pins Eden Shriner (25-18 SM)

    170 -- Kodiak pins Qualls (25-24 SM)

    182 -- Lowery pins Williams (30-25 G'ville)

    195 -- Cornelius pins Clifford (36-25 G'ville)

    220 -- Chrisman pins Winchester (42-25 G'ville)

    285 -- Odom pins Chapman (42-31 G'ville)

SM is extremely talented in the lower weights but looks pretty weak from about 160 up outside of their 285. I'm confidently taking the Devils v. the field next week in Franklin. What are other's predictions?

Can't see JoJo beating Carson Dupill.  Carson is currently 18th on Flo and is coming off monster big time national tournament wins (he just beat the number 11).  Carson majors or TF.

  4. I think the current landscape is:

Region 1-2 Completed: Greeneville (in), Gibbs (in)

Region 3-4 in Progress: Pigeon Forge vs Hixon,    Signal Mountain (in)

Region 5-6 in Progress: Greene Hill vs Tullahoma (was today, but nobody posted scores),   Page (in)

Region 7-8 in Progress: Fairview, Sycamore, Millington ?

The demise of Pigeon Forge wrestling has been greatly exaggerated

Looking at their roster and matches on track they appear to have a 106, 113, and 120.  They don't appear to have a 126. I'm assuming some kids must have been under the weather?  Struck me as really odd when I saw the amount of FFs.  What happened to Dyer? He hasn't wrestled all year.  Cable hasn't wrestled since December so I'm guessing an injury.

    DB beat AC 54-20

    Maryville is solid this year

Yes and Science Hill's program is in horrible condition, never seen a such a big populous school completely collapse as bad as they just did.  However, the transfers in have stopped flowing. Mann, Harter, Flyte, etc.  plus the man who used to run the lil toppers is no longer as involved and Myers has moved to Hilton Head.  One of their better kids transferred to DB last year and won the final match in their dual to beat them.  Just a complete collapse.

Good question. Is it the responsibility of the home team or do both teams agree to post it? WC beat Overton last night and that score was entered and posted quickly on Track.

    TSSAA Policy:

    Quote

Each participating school should complete the dual meet result section which is on the Track Wrestling
website. This should be done immediately following competition. Match results not recorded should
not be used for seeding purposes at the individual region tournaments

Y’all are so stuck on rankings. James Howard has fallen off big time. He just lost to a football player from Cartersville. Howard used to be one of the best heavy weights in the country without a doubt. But when you do not continuously test yourself national scene it is impossible to stay improving.

He lost to Shadre Hurst from Cartersville and that football player is ranked 12th on flowrestling.

  9. Colin Dupill is currently ranked 14th on Flo at 145. Higher than any other kids from TN outside Hunter Mason (6) and James Howard (13).  Harper is 15, impressive and I had forgotten about him but he hasn't wrestled much so that  is why. Not to mention the competition level at 145 is far better than 195, 220, or 285 particularly so on the National circuit.  We all know that is true, don't act like it isn't.

Roller and Corday aren't even ranked for whatever reason, but well they aren't.

Also, Kodiak pins Heckert in three to four minutes.

I don't see Davis beating the 13th ranked Howard regardless of his impressive improvements.

  10. TSSAA policy:

    Quote

In Division I Class A and Class AA, each district may determine which teams advance to the regional dual
meet tournament by any method the district selects. Each region shall determine a champion and runner up
by any method the region selects. If the region uses a dual meet tournament to select its champion and
runner-up, both districts must be represented. The format and seeding for the regional dual meet
tournament shall be determined by the method the region selects. District coaches shall select their
regional tournament site on a rotation basis. In odd-numbered years, the odd-numbered districts shall
select the regional site and in even-numbered years, the even-numbered districts shall select the regional
site. The regional dual meet champion and runner-up shall be determined by the Friday of NFHS Week 30

The above is stupid.  I don't know any of the coaches (or anyone in their programs) involved in any of this and I don't care to.  What I do know is that coaches shouldn't be deciding anything with respect to policy within competition because while most are good and fair, some are not.  Again I don't care about any of these coaches or who is respected or who isn't.  Don't care at all. Don't care if Gibbs, Halls, Clinton all fall off the face of the earth as far as wrestling goes.  Coaches should NOT be making policy about seeds, locations, who wrestles whom, or what constitutes fairness but unfortunately the TSSAA is incapable of instantiating a state wide policy so we get what we get.

TSSAA doesn't even offer training to our refs (I personally know a new ref right now in the state and there was zero, and I mean zero training and he an I converse fairly often).  We wrestle states in a f$$k1ng Ag. center on dirt floors covered by mats, jeebus batman.   But I'm going off topic.

  11. 1. Hunter Mason (Currently number 6 on Flo at 138).

    2. Kodiak Cannedy (Ranked 16 on Flo just a few months ago).

    3. Colin Dupill (5th place finish at beast of the east)

    4. Luke Belcher

    5. Ashton Davis

    Honorable Mention:

Shires, Fisak, Dendy, Ivy, Dalon, Foreman, Heckert, Roller, Howard (McCallie).

160 Symbroski from Cleveland knocks off returning state champion Parton from Pigeon Forge and the kid from Father Ryan and still unranked. Hmmmmm.

Parton isn't a returning state champ but he was a finalist at 145 in single A last year and since Cleveland is AA there is no mention.
