Let's be honest and say that everyone should be placed back together for the traditional/individual state wrestling championships.  The problem is that Lil Johnny's mom & daddy want for Lil Johnny to be a state champion.

This is absolutely the truth.  Would be great to see McDaniel, Mason, and Ivy at 138.  Throw in Hylton, Belcher, and Fort plus a handful of others and it would truly be must see wrestling.  The funny part is that I think the boys themselves really want this.

Yes he has. But its not my job to educate you. If you want to know his accomplishments google is a free search tool. Hunter is a great wrestler, but I think everybody is in agreement  here that he doesn't beat Trae.

Definitely not in agreement.  Hunter medaled at super 32 at 126 which was noted as one of the toughest weight classes this past year.  Trae has never medaled at super 32.  Hunter is ranked higher nationally than Trae has ever been on Flo as well.   At the elite 8 duals a few months ago I believe Hunter lost one match.  I'm well educated on Trae's accomplishments but that super 32 medal is big, really big. I'm not saying Hunter wins but that match is not a foregone conclusion.   I do wish AAA and AA were merged for individuals. Silly not to be.

  3. Throw out a name from 126 in Region 1 who falls in the dark horse category: Dylan Winchell from Cocke County.  A transfer from out of state but he looks legit and if he comes in ready he could be a bracket buster.  Tucker from Volunteer wrestled a heck of match to decision him.  He also has some really solid wins throughout the course of the season.

  4. Assuming Laxton wrestles 52 then the only matches DB can, keyword can, win are 32 with Watkins, 52  with Hurst, and 170 with Clint.  If Laxton vs Hurst happens then I'll take Hurst by decistion.  32 is a toss up in my opinion.  If DB can bump up Tre and Clint to 170 and 182 (if Chittum is at 160) then they should win those as well.

Did I miss something?  When did they officially announce that there was going to be less than 4 wrestlers per weight class for traditional state?

Yes, they are only taking the top two from each weight class from each region this year instead of the normal four.  I can't point you to a specific article but this is common knowledge amongst the wrestling community.

  6. I don't think what I ask happens and it was great there was a season at all but I do think the question needs to be asked.   If there is not a way it can or will happen due to liability or local restrictions then I understand.

Assuming 16 wrestlers per bracket and 2 relatives each that is 448 people (excluding staff) at the venue day one.  32 wrestlers per bracket and 2 relatives each is 896 people day one.  I understand the difference is non-negligible but nonetheless I think it deserving a look.  NHSCA events and Super 32 went on with thousands at various indoor venues.  The vast majority I saw complied with masking regulations.

  7. The governor has removed attendance restrictions starting February 1st.

Who has the pull to get TSSAA to let 4 in per weight class from each region as normal?  We all know that good kids are going to get left out in the some of the more capable regions.

Doesn't sound good on the TSSAA side as they were quick to highlight how his mandate doesn't seem to mean much to them in that they can maintain current rules.

I agree that DII is very strong this year!!

I missed Dendy’s Super32 placement.  He is great but finished 4th at Regional tournament last month.

Corday is solid at 106/113 but he’s 106/113.  Let’s see how he does when he gets bigger.

Flo Rankings are a mess right now.  They even admit that.  Especially at the upper weights because they have no recent National competition to go off of.  Huge number of football guys that didn’t participate at Super32 or duals in Georgia.

I love this kind of discussion around wrestling in Tennessee.  I can’t wait to watch all these guys at state.

    Dendy just beat Taylor 4-3

  9. The dual will be very close at regionals as well.  I know their rosters well and it is a matchup problem for both.   SH had a somewhat unexpected loss at one spot and there were three pins that I thought would happen in favor of DB that didn’t and DB just took decisions.

  10. Absolutely no disrespect to Daniel but I've been in a room when Daniel and Hunter were both present. It is not even remotely close in any aspect.   The match score is not close at all. Again this is not to disrespect Daniel as he is a really good wrestler but Hunter is on a different level, a completely different level.  Hunter is currently ranked 11th at 126 on Flo's ratings.

Being a good kid has nothing to do with it. Look at some of the wins he's had over the summer. Getting back into this season he's just being outclassed.

Outclassed? 3-0 to Fisher and 10-7 to Hylton?  Hardly outclassed.   Braxton will be ready when it matters, anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.  Splitting hairs between these talented wrestlers..
