He's the defending state runner up...if he's in the lineup he's the favorite with bonus points at 120
Yep, updated my original post to reflect the change to Hicks. That really hurts DB if he is in shape. He has only wrestled one match that is on Track which is was a loss to Calvin but nonetheless he has to be the heavy favorite until shown otherwise.

I just drive all over the state for work and watch these kids wrestle for fun. I think because of DB not being a traditional power house in wrestling and its geological location has people looking down on them. If it was Science Hill they would be top 4 in the State. I've seen Wilson wrestle twice and I just think DB is better.
The eye test is crucial. I know all the DB kids but only some of the WC kids so where unsure I went with Rank Wrestlers position. On paper WC looks better.

No way Mercante pins little Norman in my mind. I have watched both of the wrestle. I think it will be a points match. Prob 8-5 either way.
Good catch, that was actually a mistake and should be three. I am going to give Mercante the win as he is a senior. Updated my original post.

I was thinking the same thing, not sure how you can have the studs they have had through the past few years and still not have a much deeper team and some backups. I don't know a ton about them, but do they not have a big youth program or what is the issue? Is it with them spending so much traveling all over the country for the studs they do and have had not allowed them to put money into other parts of the program to strengthen it? I understand not having the generational talent of those already mentioned, but its almost like they will fall off a cliff.
It is in the history. Kodiak, Hunter, and the Dupills aren't from Greeneville. Kodiak and Hunter moved to Greeneville in middle school from other states and they were already excellent. Funny side story, Kodiak's first middle school match was against my son. Coach comes over and says hey this new kid moved here (from Colorado I think) and looks to be pretty good, can you send so and so out for an exhibition. Well so and so wasn't there and my son was next best (I guess) on hand. Let the beating begin for my kid. lol. Anyways the Dupills arrived from out-of-state last year. Now around this same time (prior to Dupills) Joe Kemmerer has shown up and now you've got Hunter, Kodiak, Ivy, Watkins (DB), and the Fisher brothers (Jefferson County) all in the mix in Morristown and later Kingsport. Popping in and out with Kemmerer is Braxton Mann, Dalon, other PF kids here and there, Hurst, Morrisette's and others I'm sure I'm forgetting about.
But, you want the long story short? in my mind Greeneville allowed those guys to flourish by permitting and supporting travel and not making a fuss about all the outside work but to say that Greeneville proper is "most" responsible for their development is a stretch. I always see Kemmerer as the spearhead right behind the dedicated parents. Just an absolutely fantastic clinician. Lakeway took Ivy, Roller, and Dalon to the next level with TNWA and Zeke. Let's not forget to that Nahshon Garrett then shows up who was such a good practice partner for Hunter and Kodiak. Probably Dupill some as well. Nashon wasn't the clinician Joe was but right around their weight when not cutting I suppose. Good dude. My son didn't get the memo that practice was early one day. Everyone had left and he spent an hour wrestling my son. I'm grateful for the stuff like that. Grateful for those Greeneville kids beating up my kid as well, helped him tremendously. Anyways...
I'm not dissing the Greeneville coaches, they had a special time with great kids. We will see if that ever happens again.
Now the only option for outside training is E3 (Kingsport) and TNWA (Morristown, Kingsport) which are both quite a haul from Greeneville. We will see to if any of the next generation of Greeneville wrestlers and parents elect to spend that outside time at those clubs like Hunter and Kodiak did.

Not having Pigeon Forge or Greeneville in the field this year must be a first.
I think Greeneville is in a spot of trouble for several years to come. They lost Kodiak last year and lose Hunter, Colin, Castillo, and Morgan this year. Outside of Chrisman at 220 and Carson Dupill at probably 126 next year I can't think of anybody within their program, including middle school, even remotely close to replacing even a fraction of what Hunter, Colin, and Kodiak provided. They've had four (Hunter, Kodiak, Dupills) supremely talented hard working automatics for years but three of those automatics are gone leaving only Carson. Their 106 and 113 are solid but it is going to be interesting times for the Greeneville program.

I wouldnt be surprised if some of it was also just a lack of time, or just plain forgetting to do it. I used to update scores for a local soccer team on here several years ago and sometimes i would put it off, and then get sidetracked and just forget to post any updated results.
I could buy that but some are very consistent in not posting results, as in they only get posted if the other coach bothers.
-
I always wonder why some of these programs don't post results on Track.
1. Laziness?
2. Our program has lineup "secrets", we gonna catch everyone off guard. LoL.
3. Technophobes?

ours were always done on a night by itself, free entry for everyone including other students and we usually had some pretty good crowds for it also. Got some excitement for the program and put a little pressure on the boys to compete since there were actual spectators there.
Yeah, that is a good way as well. I think wrestle offs just might be the most pressure some of these kids feel all year. Particularly if the two kids are peers with respect to talent and ability. My son's freshman year I had no idea if he was going to win or lose because his opponent was a couple of years older and very much even with him. If one kid is a hammer and the other not then that is a different story.
-
Made me think of something talking about wrestle offs.
I liked the way my son was forced to wrestle off in his freshman and I think sophomore year. A few minutes before one of the last pre-season duals started they held wrestle offs. Guaranteed the wrestle off was in full view of all the participating parents, couldn't be argued.

Region 1 and 2 AA
Maryville over Science Hill: 42-25. Perhaps pin-tn can finally remove SH from the rankings, sheesh.
Interesting match: Medina over Stadel 10-1. Exclamation point
Dobyns Bennett over Anderson via FF.

Gabe an Morgan wrestled at 195. I was there. Gabe is nowhere near 195. Walking in 170s day to day. Track has the 182 and 195 weight classes reversed.

Was a heck of a throw by Watterson in the first period.
It was, Watterson has improved a bunch and looked good in the match. He went for a big move one to many times and Smalling capitalized.

Wow! In my mind I had Miller winning it. DB is on a tear and at the right time of the year. I did not find the meet on track.?
It wasn’t close. Miller spent the entire match on his belly. Mason is that good. It was like 12-1 or something. One point because Mason let him up.
-
Hopefully this can end the nonsense that was SH being in any type of rankings. SH has a long way to go and it only gets worse from here as DBs pipeline is much more developed.
Match of the evening was Smalling and Waterson.

May I remind you, Colin and Carson Dupill, Hunter Mason, Zac Chrisman, Morgan Lowery, Cooper Johnson... we'll see what they get at the other weights, but those are 6 guys that are for sure wins against the majority of the teams in the state.
Cooper Johnson hasn't wrestled all year so I can only assume he quit.
If Chrisman is healthy for regionals and Shelton makes 113 then they are the favorites. If only one of those guys is available then it is neck and neck. If neither is there then Crockett is the favorite. I was at the district duals on Tuesday.
-
I think @desselle has AA right so I won't go there.
Region 1-2
Halls and Crockett/Gibbs/Greeneville. Crockett, Gibbs, and Greeneville are all so close I can't tell. Crockett beat Greeneville the other night but Greeneville was missing their 220 who is a returning medalist. If he is back then it will be super close between them to see who wrestles Gibbs.
Region 3-4
Signal Mountain and Pigeon Forge
Region 5-6
Page and Tullahoma
Region 7-8
Fairview and Sycamore

That is funny, I didn't notice the periods and assumed folk style since there wasn't any "freestyle" action, lol.
