Not sold on Milan is a fair opinion but insinuating that the you have beaten better competition so far this year well I guess we can agree to disagree.

No we have a lot to prove on the field. I've seen Milan play South Gibson and wasn't very impressed with either team. I know what the Mustangs have cause I go to practice about every day. In my opinion I would take the Mustangs in a matchup. Guess we'll find out on the 22nd! Just an old man's very experienced opinion.

Warms my heart to know that all these young mustangs get to full-fill their dreams of losing every year in the 3rd round of the TSSAA playoffs.

    soup for the soul

You poor jealous soul. You know the Mustangs have the #1 winning percentage in the history of west Tennessee.  Our kids have plenty to be proud of. Bet we can beat your team whoever that is!

After the first 3 weeks I would rank the region

    1A Riverside

    1B Milan

    3 Huntington

    4 Peabody

    5 Adamsville

    6 Camden

    7 Gibson Co

    8 JCM

    What changes would you make?

Not sold on Milan yet. They haven't beaten a good team yet. Would flip flop them with the Mustangs!

The reason I asked that question is I saw Trenton Middle School play last night. In the championship years Trenton Middle was a pretty solid bunch and you could see the talent getting ready to roll through. Last night they lost 56-8. I don’t remember them getting positive yards in the first half. It surprised me to be honest.

Huntingdon gets their talent from the middle school program. I don’t think there is but 2 kids on their high school team that wasn’t on their middle school team. 1 of those was from here and moved away and came back.

So that’s why I asked the poster that said Peabody was reloading. Huntingdon doesn’t get many people moving in. Does Peabody? I wasn’t trying to down Peabody. It was a truthful question. How are they reloading?

I left at halftime of the Huntingdon - Trenton middle school game last night with the young Mustangs leading 44-0. Trenton was disorganized making mistake after mistake while the young Mustangs looked like a well oiled machine. Our youth football program is excellent producing very good teams year after year. We get our kids to buy in early and it shows in the performance of our middle school team. Our kids are fundamentally sound when they arrive at the high school level. Strong youth football is the key to being consistent in high school. Huntingdon doesn't rebuild we reload!

Personally I'd have Riverside at 2. Henry County hasn't been punished in the past for losing games to teams like Beech or Summit.  Don't see why Riverside should be for playing Collierville

I really like Riverside. They're long and lean and run very well. Also think Huntingdon is vastly under rated. 1st team offense scored on every possession against Adamsville. But we need to prove it on the field

No they do not. No fast food. They have one Dollar General. Two local restaurants. Two gas stations, a bank, lumber company, small grocery, muffler shop, trading post and a flower shop. Go Bulldogs!

How many gold balls does Gleason have in girls basketball?

played up ? Huntingdon is a 2A team no matter how you slice it , they don’t belong in 1A , neither does Trenton , Union City or even Mckenzie for that matter . Huntingdon actually won it’s only gold ball playing 2A

Back when there was 3 classes the Mustangs chose to play up in classification. Fans wanted to play strong competition so we moved up. Cost us but we got to play Milan in the playoffs which is what the fans wanted. We couldn't stand the thought of playing a weak 1a schedule

  8. Last time the Cardinals and Mustangs met was in 2008 which was Swenson's first year as head coach. I saw the Cardinals last at the jamboree in Lexington last year. What I remember most is how good the Adamsville JV's looked. So I know theirs some talent down around the state line. Homecoming so Paul Ward stadium will be rocking Friday night. You Cards come on up the best football venue in west Tennessee.

Although I agree with you, you never know. Next year with a little more experience and a better defense, Camden could definitely be in the mix. We all thought we were going to handle McKenzie too and we seen what happened there. What's the middle school record for the past 4-6 years? Couldn't have lost many more than 2-3 within that 4-6 years? Can't really translate success from middle school record/dominance to high school. You could probably for individual opponents, but not for the season. If we go by what we did in middle school, we should have multiple gold balls.

Mckenzie was one of those games we have every 2 or 3 years. Last time we played like that was against Moore Co. We have a very good football team that's capable of winning it all. We would have multiple gold balls if we hadn't played up in classification for so many years!

Thanks for the info Beagle! Man, if Camden can get that defense straightened later in the season they may be right in the mix with everyone else in this region. it may be an even tougher region next year. I think next week when Huntingdon goes to Columbia Academy, I'm going to slide down the road and watch the Camden and Milan game. Plus I need to see that new field!

After seeing Camden Middle get punished 38-0 by the young Mustangs I don't see the Lions topping the Mustangs anytime soon!

  11. The Cardinals have never beaten the Mustangs. I don't think that's gonna change this year. Young Stangs have taken a lot of grief over the Mckenzie loss. Figure they're ready to play well to shut everyone up. Homecoming so look for a capacity crowd. Cardinals are 2-0 so they should have some confidence. Looking  forward to some crisp hitting!

I can’t remember a team that I could say upset them in the playoffs except for 2017 against cornersville.
you two wanna refresh my memory? Serious question…

Connersville never took a snap inside our 20 yardline that game. Caught our safety sucking up twice and burned us with 2 long TD passes. Most physical game I've ever seen!

I am familiar with Huntingdon. They lost by 16 to a 1A team that lost ALOT of talent. Huntingdon may not even host a playoff game this year.

Mustangs may also win it all this season. Huntingdon lost to Mckenzie by a larger margin last year and went to the semi's. You assume the Rebels are not as good as last year. I don't know about that but they're close. This Mustang team is more talented than last years 11 win squad so I wouldn't count them out just yet!

In those 20 years, how many Huntingdon teams had a "passing/pro style" teams (in terms of players and their skillset) but elect to run the football because they're "Huntingdon."

For whatever reason we just hadn't had much arm talent to come thru our program. McKenzie on the other hand has been blessed with passing style QB's over the years. More bad things can happen passing than running. That was legiondary coach Paul Wards belief and it's still carries on today.

Yeah but teams and kids are built different. When was the last time a team running the veer won a championship. Even Union City is opening it up more and running a different more modern veer.

Actually the Mustangs are throwing the ball more this year than previously. Our QB is very accurate throwing on the run and we're throwing more short passes instead of heaving the ball down field like we normally do. Dresden has got play a clean game to have a shot at beating the Rebels. McKenzie is very food fundamental team. Make a few mistakes and your toast!

Maybe so.  But every team that plays Huntingdon for the last, oh call it 20 years, has lined up to stop that wing t offense.  It's one dimensional.  Dresden won't be that way.

I will give you that you passed the ball more last Friday than I have ever seen a Huntingdon team throw.

Last 20 years the Mustangs have won 191 games losing 61 with that one dimension offense. I love running the ball and I think most Huntingdon fans do also. I wonder if anyone in west tennesse can match those 20 year totals.

We are thin on the line but by no means is the well empty.  Tate Surber is legit as our QB. We don’t drop off their one bit.     Dresden will present more of a challenge to our defense because they don’t run the same 3 plays over and over again.

I expect a Rebel win at home but may be closer than some think.

Hope Waverly has a great year!!

Mustangs threw the ball more than the Rebels Friday night. It was execution that beat us not play calling!
