Don't panic early stang fans. Remember how Riverside looked early last year, and how they ended up? Huntingdon will come around - they usually do.

Mustangs just had a bad night. You can't play stupid against a good team and Mckenzie is a good, well coached team. Our guys are mostly 2 & 3 yr starters so their is no excuse for the way they played. It wasn't just the turnovers. It was so many just stupid errors the Mustangs committed. The boys will execute better now that we've had our annual spanking from Mckenzie!

Unofficial stats from last night.  Rebels run defense played pretty well.  I was concerned about the offensive line but they played well considering only one of them had any experience.

Tate Surber was as advertised.  Once that line develops more, Tate will really be special.  Imagine if he was behind that line we had last year.

    Great win by the Rebels!

    Your penalty stats way off

  3. This was an ugly game! Wasn't very impressed with either team. South Gibson had early success then just quit. Milan offensive line was knocking the Hornets off the ball. I knew what Milan was going to run about every play except for the throwback passes. That offense is not gonna fly against some teams on your schedule! And the scene under the stands as I was leaving was scary. Guess the police were out on the 4 lane writing tickets!

Huntingdons turf is just that much better than everyone else’s. Everything is better in Huntingdon. Getting in better shape has nothing to do with hanging your cleat in turf

You got it!. Mustangs rarely go full speed in practice. I think that is the key to staying healthy. If we are going to get hurt it's going to be on Friday night. I know people say you have more injuries on turf but I just don't see it. We've had turf since 2017. I've seen every game and it just doesn't appear to be unsafe to me.

I’ve never been a fan of turfed pitches. Natural grass for the win. I hope Peabody doesn’t go to a turf pitch anytime soon.

Mustangs have had very few injuries since we installed turf. Lost more kids to 4 wheeler injuries than football injuries. We get in shape before the season starts over here in Carroll Co. Turf much better at play-off time.

A lot of you are high on the panthers coming into the season but they open the season with their toughest game on their schedule against a team with a multitude of D1 recruits. I hope they stay healthy and have a good showing. Dragons 35 Panthers 14.

I'll take the Panthers in this one and their toughest game is Huntingdon not Collierville!

  7. I feel like Mckenzie is going to trot out a pretty team onto the field Friday. Huntingdon's run defense has been pretty stout in preseason  so I'm expecting the Reb's to air it out. Huntingdon's run game finally started to tick against Lexington Friday night. Moving big #74 back to tackle where he seems more comfortable has made a big difference. Mustang passing game has very effective in preseason. Look for this game to be very competitive.

  8. Think Huntingdon is ranked about right now with the ability to be much better. Riverside is good but after seeing them against Hardin Co I think the Panthers and Mustangs is a toss up. Union City with a win over Covington was very impressive. I'm worried about Mckenzie this Friday night. They have reloaded and are going to surprise some folks just hope it's not the Mustangs!

I get a kick out of how people think there is some big conspiracy theory about numbers and hiding kids. Lol. Just like you said cyclical. Numbers go up and down from class to class.

Union City is kinda like the Nashville Christian of the west. May be legal but it's not a level playing field!

Well, if they had 4A students in the school they would be 4A. Remember they have to report enrollment numbers ever 2 years.

I don't care about your enrollment. What I'm saying is the Tornado's have their pick of all those athletes in a 12000 pop town. How many good football players that live in Union City are playing for Obion Central or South Fulton?

    Here’s the final:

    Covington varsity 5

    Huntingdon varsity 1

    Covington JV 1

    Huntinghon JV 0

The Mustangs got the first possession at their 30, and scored in 6 or 8 plays, including 3 for 3 passing. I thought “ It’s gonna be a long day for the Charger D”.

Covington drove the ball well and scored on their possession, to tie the game.

Evidently, Coach Kirby got in the ears of the Covington defense, because although the Mustangs moved the ball well at times, they never got past the Covington 30 the rest of the game.

I was struck by how many problems Huntingdon had from center. Their center (#74) is huge, and looks the part. But, I saw 2 shotgun snaps that were over the QB’s head, plus 3 or 4 snaps where the QB went under center and the ball ended up on the ground. Those are drive killers.

Covington QB Gover had a good night throwing the ball (2 TD’s, including one about 65 yards where the receiver got totally behind the D). The Chargers used stellar RB Skylan Smith sparingly. He did catch a TD pass. Fullback (#7) Azarion Smith piled up lots of yards up the middle including a 30 or 35 yd TD run. He appears to be the “surprise” running back that Kirby often springs on folks. A couple of years ago it was a fullback named Flowers.

I’m pretty happy with the Charger O at this point. The D will need to improve to go very far in the region and the playoffs, but it shows potential.

I’ll be interested to see how Huntingdon does the rest of the year.

Thought the Chargers defense played well especially  the defensive line. Big #99 gave us fits inside. It takes a very strong defensive line to beat the Mustangs and ya'll did a great job. Thought the Mustang defense played the run pretty well but our pass defense as usual sucked. Chargers are a good looking team.

Who did they recruit and why didn’t you turn them in??

Their recruiting coordinator  is a friend of mine. Hate to get him in trouble. Seriously we've lost a number of kids in the past to Henry Co. Who is Milans recruiting coordinator  now?

  13. 2 hours ago, CHARGERFAN said:

What should Covington fans expect to see on offense from the Mustangs? Everybody knows that the Chargers are gonna depend heavily on our run game. Running back Skylan Smith (#9) is our guy to watch.

Mustangs always going to run the ball first.  Our offense is built around controlling the ball and wearing the defense down in the 4th quarter. Have lots of running back depth led be Hutcherson and Warbritton.

Exactly now pretend Henry County was a private school that offered financial aid and..such. But hey if I'm wrong I'll be quick to find the UC/Ensworth thread and eat my crow while patting them on the back.

Henry Co is pretty good at recruiting!

Crockett County should be pretty dang good this year they return some good players and the fan base is as energized as I've seen since Jordan Branch's senior year. Their stadium also went thru some beautiful upgrades. Looks like it could be a big year for the boys in Alamo

Looks like Huntingdon picked a bad time to schedule the Cavaliers. Crockett comes to Huntingdon. How do you feel about this game?

Riverside looks considerably better than last year. And they're on a mission, after that heartbreaker at Chatt in December.

I saw the Panthers play Hardin Co and was impressed. Lots of linemen playing both ways. Looked great against the run but maybe a little shaky in the secondary. Big RB looked great on both offense and defense. Have strong tackles, line looked very mobile. Can"t wait to meet you on the carpet Sep 29. Mustangs can play with you!

I was told that thru the first 4 series for each team it was 21-0 Crockett and Peabody was without a first down. Very reliable source. However Crockett is loaded with returners this year and Peabody replaces a ton.

Mustangs got Crockett Co.,Milan & Riverside 3 weeks in a row. Pretty tough run. Saw Riverside scrimmage Hardin Co. Pretty talented bunch. That big running back reminds me of Earnest Fields. Not only a big time RB but an outstanding linebacker also. I know the Bulldogs are improved, but this is the best Mustang squad I've seen in a while. Gonna be fun.
