Ok, we will let you two idiots go over to Sammy's house, and you might as well go to Trae Morrisette's house (he won it last year), where you can extract their trophies and you two can give it to the proper Cleveland kid.  Jesus Christ you two are unreal.  Then we can start unearthing all the coaches participating in this conspiracy of "hate" against Cleveland kids.

You seem to be the “idiot” in this conversation. First off I didn’t say they didn’t deserve to win it. Both those young men had great years and great tournaments. As a matter of fact other than his family no one was happier for Sammy to win than me. Now do I think Davis should have won it, yeah I do. Nobody at the tournament could even remotely compete with him. Pinning all the way through with only one kid even getting out of the first period. Total absolute domination in every match.

106 the top 4 pretty interchangeable. Walker beat Bond. Uhorchuk and Dupil split during the season. The others didn’t wrestle each other.

138 Dendy lost to Lipsey by pin. Shires clear number one there for me.

160 I like Brenot over Dalon.

I think the rest of the weights are spot on.

I’m talking not only this year but like the last 10

No worries Fooseball there are about to be some years in the not to distant future that it will be darn near impossible to keep the award away. The group of middle schoolers coming up are going to be the best ever to walk through the doors at Cleveland. If you think the legacy that the Laxton’s, McDaniel, Bradford, Whiteside, Ellison, Boyd, Davis, left was awesome just wait. We got Tulsa placers, Preseason Nationals placers, absolute monsters on deck. They didn’t lose a match two years ago at kid state duals. Not a single match. That’s against the rest of the state.

Let’s discuss criteria for the Outstanding Wrestler Award at the TSSAA state tournament.

    1.  Is it the wrestler that has gone undefeated throughout the season?  That’s great but what about the kids that never wrestle anyone out of a 50 mile radius vs the kids that have been to Ironman, Beast of The East, 5 Counties, etc…

    2.  Is it the truly the best wrestler at the state tournament?

    3.  In the years gone by it was given to the low or unseeded wrestler than won the tournament

I don’t know what criteria they use for it is anymore. Some years it feels more like a Highschool career award. Other years it’s a popularity contest. The year it didn’t go to Tyler Seally from Science Hill was an absolute travesty. He won a state title and didn’t surrender a single point in the entire tournament. Congratulations to Sammy Shires for this years award.

  5. Yes that’s exactly what I am saying. He lost to ZB 9-2 last year at club state duals. You can’t wrestle all season and not go and test yourself and think that somehow you just find a way to turn it on in a big match. It just simply doesn’t work that way.

That's a weak argument. It just simply does work that way.

What you're saying is its absolutely impossible for him to have gone and trained in the off season and gotten better because he doesn't have Cleveland's strength of schedule.

An 8-0 major decision loss in finals to Walker. Bosken his back up finishes 3rd at 113. Practice partners matter.

Cleveland places 10 out of 11. So all of you who think  “Fight Nights” and soft scheduling is the key to winning please keep that.

Max is gonna hurt some upperclassmen's feelings come February. Not saying I think he beats Belcher this yr, but everyone else could be fair game.
    • I must admit, I got it wrong.   :)
    • Looks like EVERYONE was fair game to the kid. CONGRATULATIONS MAX!!!

He came out attacking. No hesitation at all on his part. He wrestled great.

Those projections have the team race looking close... I thought the dual finals score was due to match-ups and familiarity. Is Cleveland actually vulnerable this year? And what happened to Chittum?

I think the team race will definitely be closer than the past couple of years. Are they vulnerable though is hard to say. They have four kids most would agree to be finalist this year with probably five other placers. That’s 9 out of 11. Bradley has 11 going also followed by Dobbyns Bennet and Maryville with 10 each. Going to need some upsets I think to make the team race really tight.

What are Max Norman chances at 145. When he finished 2nd at the Holy Angels it caught App St coach attention especially with him being a freshman.

Looks like if he wins first round then he gets Wittman from Franklin. That will be a tall task for him to get past I think. Should he lose there he would most likely end up with a previous years medalist in the consolation semis. I think he places but he will have to wrestle really well to finish top four and pull off an upset along the way.

Right but you are acting as if you pulled yourself up by your bootstraps.  You did not. There was a lot of help to create that dynasty which seems to make you mad.

I stated right here in the very first sentence. “No denying that money and resources contribute to the success.”

I am a lot of things but mad is laughable. I couldn’t be more grateful and appreciative of the coaches and the people in the community in Cleveland. I owe Bosken and Knox a debt that no amount of money could ever payback. Those guys Invested time in my child and sacrificed time with there families to help him improve.

  10. 18 minutes ago, oceansize42 said:

Who cares about everything you just listed.  Every other program (worth their salt) does that to.

I was pointing out, and Bosken stated it himself, how it began and how it was able to begin.  I stated repeatedly the kids and coaches must do their job, and they do.

So if every other program does what we do why aren’t they winning???

Why is our k-8 program, made up of ALL Cleveland City kids, dominating at the youth level? Is it because of what Allan did 16 years ago. People just can’t except we work harder and are willing to go the extra mile.

A rising tide lifts all boats (and I firmly believe this) but the comments concerning Cleveland (and Bradley) always give me a good chuckle.  There is so much money pumped into that program when compared to any other public school program in TN (that I'm aware of).  Cleveland has the money, and just as key, does the work.  But the money is where it starts as that enables the hiring, and most importantly, the ability to keep Coaching talent. The old saying that money can't buy happiness is true, but so is the other frequented quote "but it sure can fix a lot of problems".   Pull all, every bit, of that money and the facilities out of Cleveland and come talk to me about where you are at with respect to the rest of state.  Jeebus...is there anyone who somehow thinks that money is not a huge reason for their program's success?  Again, the kids and the coaches must do their job, but it is sure is nice to have access to everything you could possibly need right there.  Also, lets not forget the Boom ranch, but again money. I'm talking about programs and not individual kids beating other individual kids.  Plenty of individual talent across the state.

No denying that money and resources contribute to the success. However it takes a lot more than that.

The 50k was used to hire a coach not given to the coaches……and was 16 years ago.

Each club gets 15k a year to travel, help pay for kids who need it, and pay coaches….. spread that out and see how much money coaches are getting.

Bradley Pride gets the EXACT same as HCWC.

Bosken traveled 40 weekends last year….taking kids all over the country. Not because he is being paid…. because losing sucks.

we have to fundraise 50-60k a year to do what we do…… Contrary to popular belief it doesn’t come from Allan although we are extremely grateful for his contribution.

Allan didn’t pay for the charter bus
Allan didn’t pay for hotel rooms
Allan didn’t pay for the kids to go to beast
Allan didn’t help with cost to get us to fargo
Allan didn’t pay for ANY gear we have
Allan didn’t pay for the upgrades in the facility this year.

This is ALL done by local community members that have bought in to the success we are having.

Our girls operated on a 2k budget this year……and I myself and a few others help out so the girls could get what was needed. The girls have committed to train and do some powerlifting competitions. That takes money and we raised 1k yesterday with a few phone calls. That doesn’t happen accidentally and it requires a lot of people dedicated to the programs and the community.

Makes you wonder how Signal Mountain 106 in his shallow pool beat a Greeneville kid who spent all year in the deep end. Cool pool analogy thanks for using it.

Oh that Signal Mountain kid knows all about the deep end of the pool. Been swimming on that end for a long time now.

I'm not sure you could possibly saying anything dumber. Take a bow.

Because someone doesn't have cleveland's strength of schedule its impossible for them to improve. Got it.

Here is strength of schedule argument.

Last 8 out of 10 State titles Cleveland

9 out of 14 individual finalist last year with 6 Champs.

You think think that is happening by chance? Walker by decision at a minimum.

What you're saying is its absolutely impossible for him to have gone and trained in the off season and gotten better because he doesn't have Cleveland's strength of schedule.

That’s exactly how it works. He beat the Sebron kid from Blackman 7-5. That’s his best win all year so far. He very well might be training in the off season and working hard. I have no idea but when that water gets deep and he hasn’t been in that end of the pool the view is a lot different.

  15. 7 minutes ago, Ummmno said:

Wait, so because you think he "hasn't wrestled anyone" that somehow disqualifies him? It baffles me that so many times people are quick to say, well A is better than B because B hasn't wrestled anybody. So?

Hicks has one loss this year. That was to Mater Dei in the GP West finals. I'm not saying that he's better than Walker. I'm saying its absolutely absurd to write him off bc "he really hasn't wrestled anyone".

Yes that’s exactly what I am saying. He lost to ZB 9-2 last year at club state duals. You can’t wrestle all season and not go and test yourself and think that somehow you just find a way to turn it on in a big match. It just simply doesn’t work that way.

I'm with you Pack. I think it'll take a 113 that's came down for Walker not to win. Also agree that #2 could very well be his own teammate. If ZB ain't 2, he's not too far down the list.

The only kid that I think can challenge Walker from Cleveland is Ford from Independence. He started out the year at 126 I believe and I think he certified for 108. He will be a very big 108. The WC kid is athletic but really hasn’t wrestled anyone.

What does the next 4-5 years look

     like??

Cleveland loses 9 seniors. Laxton, Randall, Davis, Ernst, Cooper, Gallard so basically six starters. They have some good JV kids but the question is can they fill out the upper weights.

Bradley loses 8 seniors. James, Lipsey, Parker, McClure, the 220 and 182. They face much of the same issue as Cleveland with filling out the upper weights.

Wilson Central loses 5 seniors. Fisak, Jarvis and three others. They are relatively young still again next year.

Summit loses 5 seniors. Smith, Masters and 3 others. They have definitely been on the rise just not able to break thru.

I do know that next year will be everyone’s best chance to beat Cleveland. If you look at what they are doing at middle school duals and elementary duals against the remainder of the state right now it’s not close. They have kids coming up who have placed at Tulsa and at Preseason Nationals among other national tournaments.

Individual state schedule is posted. 3 days w round of 16 and qtrs on Thursday, semis on Friday, and finals on Saturday. That doesn't seem to be a lot of wrestling each day for a team that sends a couple of kids to states.

As a parent of a wrestler that has a good shot at the finals, I probably won't go out until Saturday at this point, which sucks.

Post above is right, no one is eliminated on 1st day.

Yeah a 16 man bracket can run in one day and this is about nothing more than money. Three days of weigh ins are terrible for the kids with hard weight cuts and why did they change the bracket size if it’s still three days?

  19. 1 minute ago, fooseball95 said:

Belcher gets pinned in a dual that everybody  said WC was gonna win and Bradley still won? Is this another over hyped WC team?

Belcher did not get pinned. He got decisioned 6-4 I believe. However to answer the second part of the question yes they get a lot of votes in the middle of the state. What actual tournament did they attend this year in which they could test themselves against the best teams this year outside of GP West?

  20. 9 minutes ago, grumpyoldman said:

    Fort against Belcher not expected.

    fisak had a pin

That’s correct Fisak did get the pin my mistake. Jarvis was one point from having a major and kind of faded at the very end. The match was close and competitive throughout.

I might catch some heat for this but I think Summit comes out the bottom. They match up well with both Wilson and Bradley.

I like what Summit is building as a program but I think they will need some bonus points and maybe an upset in a match to win against Bradley. Bradley won 34-30 last time out at the Cleveland duals. I think Summit has to win and get bonus at HWT to make it a match. Maybe hold off Bradley in a few matches to decisions versus bonus. I think it’s very close.
