  1. Consider looking at the data different.  West TN doesn't have dominant large schools but in comparison there are fewer large schools in West TN.  They do have several small rural schools and at the 1a and 2a level West TN has represented well.  Since the TSSAA creation of 6 divisions of public schools West TN as had 13 of a possible 20 1a & 2a State champions.

Uh that league sucks, thats the teams that couldn't win in the Knox County league so they started their own league to chase trophies and still ain't winning.  So I wouldn't be proud about winning that league..  But why Alcoa not participating in TSSMSA (TSSAA Middle School) league to actual win a State title in middle school

TMSAA doesn't have a state championship for middle school football.  Maybe someday but not today.

so are they letting this new coach clean house and hire a whole new staff sounds like they need to from what I hear, just curious.

Wouldn't that be as simple as asking one guy to scoot his chair over?

  4. I was told that there had been an issue with the director of schools with Coach Bryant  (and a few other coaches)  Now that she is gone.......

Grundy County High School football coach Nick Bryant has been suspended for a week. The move comes after an incident during halftime of Friday's loss to Silverdale. The parent of an athlete says Bryant kicked a garbage can as he entered the locker room. The can hit one of his players, but didn't injure him. The school's athletic committee says its code of conduct was violated, so Bryant's been suspended for all activities through this Friday, including the upcoming game at Signal Mountain. Grundy County director of schools Jody Hargis says the suspension wasn't just over one incident, and that there were several issues leading up to it. chattanooga times free press Sep 18, 2013

I agree, I was just saying that a non certified teacher can not have the title of head coach

The TSSAA requirements have changed over the last few years to allow non faculty head coaches at public schools

    2020-21 TSSAA Handbook

Section 9. All coaches must be registered with TSSAA annually and will fall under one of the following categories:

    1. Full-time certified teacher (a minimum of 100 school days) of a board of education with a Tennessee teaching license or the equivalent.

    2. Retired educator (five or more years' experience) with a valid Tennessee state teaching license or the equivalent.

    3. Non-faculty coach – Anyone approved by the principal, superintendent, and/or local board of education in the normal course of employment procedures in accordance with applicable state law.

    4. Classified Employee – Any individual employed by a member school or school system in a position that does not require a teaching license or the equivalent. A Classified Employee must be employed 30 hours or more per week in a non-coaching position and may not be an independent contractor or an employee of an independent contractor.

    and in their FAQ

    Q. Can a non-faculty coach or a classified employee be a head coach?

    A. Yes. Provided they have successfully completed the NFHS “Fundamentals of Coaching” and “First Aid, Health, & Safety for Coaches” courses OR the ASEP Coaches Education Course in a TSSAA-approved course combined with the TSSAA Online Coaches Training Session prior to May 15, 2013 and have been proper submitted to the TSSAA office.

  6. No Challenger I hear you.  We have been watching the housing in the county as part of a decision process and I have noticed that the volume of available housing is reflective of the small population size and low turnover rate.  I don't live in GC just looking as part of an analysis on decisions.

  7. A contributing factor with GCHS's weight room situation may be because of the TSSAA sanctions levied against them requiring 2 coaches to be in the weight room when students are present.  Not an excuse but maybe a contributing factor give the coaching staff size or availability.

LTCB, if you applied you are the #1 candidate.  If they can't find you a teaching position, that just shows you how unimportant football is to the high school coach and the administration.

Thanks for the encouragement.  I will continue on here until I hear otherwise.  We (MS) are getting back into the weight room next week so that will occupy more of my time in waiting.  HS or MS, I believe that GC is worth investing time and energy into if we do it deliberately and purposefully.

Well that may be a bad omen because I am an outsider but my dog in the race will always be the student athletes wherever I am.
