Will they go back to 3 classes, probably not. I certainly like seeing more teams have opportunities with the four class system. However, there is no question that it has watered down the competition in late season games. The average margin of victory in the boys sectional games last night was 36 points. That is an insane number to me. It would be interesting to see the numbers year by year in region championship games and sectionals. Especially comparing big moves in TSSAA like 4 classes or the public/private split.
I believe the average margin of victory in the girls sectional games was around 16 points. Crazy as well.
Some of the scores are crazy to me as well. I don’t think I remember a sub state game having a team blow the opposing team by 53 points

Yeah they had the QB that signed with Syracuse. Think he was getting looks from Tennessee at the time. As honk said, FC blew Adamsville out in the ship. I got that wrong, they beat Marion County in the 3rd round.
Either way not trying to take away from these teams currently. I think it is better that they have the privates and publics separate now.
Was shocked to see Oakland beaten so handedly. The first two games today were as good as advertised
I was too. Houston beat a well talented Germantown team in the 3rd round by a good amount, they schemed Oakland up

That Adamsville team had won 12 straight going into that championship game too lol Probably best they have it all separated more appropriately now (I would have only 5 public classifications if I was boss) but its definitely much easier now while saying it doesnt take away from the kids accomplishments
I remember there was a stretch some of those privates were winning state in 1A till they started the “private league” and during that time they would have their way with a smaller school in the playoffs that probably had their best team in a while

See my response to General but in 09 Marion Counth had to play York, Smith, and Boyd Buchannon to get to Alcoa in the 4th round.
In 2012 it was more watered down but had to face a very good Friendship Christian in the 2nd round
Friendship beat a very good Dresden team in 11 and a in my opinion Adamsville’s best team in 2012 besides their 2014 team. They did whatever they wanted to them in those games

Congrats Riverside. 25 is the man

Probably so, SP may have imploded with penalties of a turnover. Thats the only way they could stop SP and it was obvious they were not going to put together a long drive.
Exactly, just was an odd call with 9 minutes to go tied at 7

Should have Make SP kick again when they kicked out of bounds, only way they were gonna score was a kick return ,they could NOT move the chains PERIOD.
I was just saying in general from the comment saying everyone knew they were going to fake it haha. I’m just saying it was very obvious, should’ve just punted it and tried with their luck on defense

The only obvious bad call that Comer made was the fake punt when everyone listening and watching knew it was going to be a fake punt.
Right, I don’t know why he didnt send his offense out there

It’s hands down the dumbest call I’ve seen all weekend.
I’m still confused why they did that

Once again officials are the stars of the televised championship game.
The refs in last nights game let stuff go on and then in the 2nd half started throwing flags on phantom calls

I think Fairley is a very good team that just put a whoopin on another pretty good team this past Friday.
You really got to do some digging to find some good film on them but I was lucky lucky enough to find some. I also got to watch them play Covington.
Riverside has good line play and a strong running back but the rest I think Fairley neutralizes. They can match Riverside athlete for athlete.
My opinion if Riverside wins it will be in the trenches.
You don’t make it to the semifinals being a cupcake!
Tide fans remember Fairley all too well lol. I have seen some of this team and it is kinda similar to that bunch they had in 2019. I still say Riverside wins it.

All the talent in the world. Community and school system has allowed too much crap. I feel bad for the kids. It will take a great coach/dad figure and $ to turn that program around. I still remember when they were ranked first in the state and hosting dresden in the second round and they had about 200 fans. Kids deserve better.
The amount of talent Humboldt could’ve had from 2010 beyond is crazy. The kids that live there and moved to crockett, Peabody, SGC, JCS, TCA or USJ just shows how much the school has fallen. Back in the 80’s, 90’s, 00’s they were good in almost every sport.

Yea I actually thought MASE would be different from the other Memphis teams I have watched through out my years but after the game listening to the fan’s saying we cheated them and watching player try to fight a certain player saying he lost the game. The coaches didn’t try to stop anything. Even the security treated UC fans like crap. Lost all respect last night. MASE has the talent bought or not, but without discipline and self respect they will go nowhere. That starts with the coaches teaching that.
I seen their fans saying that crap on Facebook where they posted the score. I just dislike any talk like that because your coach or players didn’t throw flags and mark a ball for them so that victim mentality is just one I just never liked about going to Memphis. There has been talks of the school system there maybe trying to disband from the tssaa branch, I say go ahead

Honest question….since they didn’t get a championship this year, will TSSAA allow MASE to recruit players from U of M next season?
Like someone said on the call in last night said. They hold Memphis and private schools in the same category

Curious question. If Huntingdon was to make it to the 4th, would we have to travel or would we be at home?
Last year was region 7/8 on this side hosting, so I believe region 5/6 turn is this year so yes

Yep looks that way
No doubt putting the ball on the carpet was a killer and when switching offenses that will eventually come to bite. Riverside has a good team and took advantage of every opportunity.. that’s football. Next week will be a good game, hats off

Discipline was non existent this year. Players missing practices Monday - Wednesday and sometimes not showing up till game day. A good coach would forfeit games instead of letting them even dress out on game day. If a good coach tries to tackle this then he may have to know going in he may have to forfeit some games in year one due to not 11 guys to dress out due to this. Very possible the ones use to being able to do this will simply quit leaving only 11 or less on the team. It could be turned around. Year 2 could be better. Year 3 could be better than year 2. The question is, what coach would be willing to take the job. There will be zero problems getting someone to take it and keep running things the same way.
Humboldt will always be a basketball school. I’ve yet to see any of the other sports there go out and get a coach that will advance the program. I hope they do go out and get a coach that will set standards and build it back to where it can be, but i don’t think sports is a priority there like it once was.

I really hate (for the kids) that football in Humboldt resembles Thelma & Louise driving the T'bird off the cliff... but the people responsible got exactly what they deserved. Had a great coach and betrayed him to promote their "golden child", thinking he could do just as well.
Classic case of "be careful what you wish for".
What you are referring is probably the worst way I’ve seen a coach that cared for a program and was an overall good man get treated at a school that he had being very competitive every year. Luckily for us he came to Trenton the year after the Humboldt mistreatment happened, hated he left after that year because the next year we won the first state (2014)
