  1. They fell within TSSAA range at 2a & 3a. Didn’t play up like some others who ended up forcing TSSAA to form the the public/private divisions to equalize the playing field with the financial aide sub plots. LA is clearly entering the arms race and frankly shocked at the seriousness. Brought a D1 baseball assistant HC into the baseball fold and now bringing a nationally recognized former NFL QB and Super Bowl winner to elevate the football program. You can be a nah sayer but it’s clear LA understands what they need to do and are putting the pieces in place to elavate the programs.
  2. Dang, I’m guessing the same was said about Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State. Oh those are colleges never mind - be interesting to see how Ensworth will die off without Bowers and how BA is better now then with Flatt. Lipscomb’s history speaks for itself. Were they prepared to jump into DII, nope, most saw the last two years coming.
  3. https://www.google.com/amp/www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/25796869/trent-dilfer-hired-lipscomb-academy-head-football-coach%3fplatform=amp Just another opinion...most kids are now noticing this recognition on platforms like ESPN and 247. Same platforms that help these kids get recognized for the next level. Dilfer is not at Lipscomb for the money, he already has it, he’s there for a greater purpose in his life and the life of the players, students, and community.
  4. Very impressive media event on campus with Rudy Kalis doing the interview. Check it out on your favorite news tonight. Oh and it made national media exposure as well. Also announced a national search already underway for addditional coaches. No he hasn’t coached a state champ HS team - just QB’d, read defenses, audibled at the line and has a Super Bowl ring to show for it but agree completely that he doesn’t have any experience what so ever that translates into this role https://www.lipscomb.edu/academy/archive/detail/224/34217
  5. https://www.lipscomb.edu/academy/archive/detail/224/34217 National search already in progress for assistants.
  6. May not have game coaching experience? Let’s see, was a favorite of Tom Dungy, played 4 years HS, played College, was a first round NFL pick, NFL starter, super bowl winner, played the most important position on the field in QB and my guess is if he wanted to coach at the NFL level, a team would hire him. He would be hard pressed to get out coached by any coach around here and if you’re an elite player, I’d assume you’d be smart enough to want to play for coach of this caliber. Where did Bowers or Martin or for that fact any of these HS coaches get their experience and can you honestly say any of these coaches carry a resume like Dilfer? LA has been humbled over the last couple of years and will face adversity while they retool the program but it’s only a matter of time. They now have the foundation down to build upon.
  7. Done deal with Dilfer. Nice call! Didn’t see that coming

  9. He’ll be the Dabo Sweeney of HS football.
  10. I like the Trent Dilfer pick. Christian man, faithful family and has a daughter at “Lipscomb West” - Pepperdine where LU’s President came from. Nah. Not a chance an NFL QB takes a HS coaching job 2,000 miles away from home.
  11. If you’re right then it’s got to be either Cutler or Holcomb. I’m betting on Cutler.
  12. Must be a “Name”. University President to make the introduction at 3:30. Usually he stays out of the campus schools and has that administration making announcements. Not on this one. Should be interesting..
  13. Formal announcement of the new Head Football Coach to made on Friday at 3:30pm
  14. Nice pick Boog. You should get on with Herbie on Saturday mornings. Last year those pirates were up 3-0 at half and dusted the Stangs in the second half. Stangs had 6 starters out for that game as well. Should be interesting to see how they play after knocking a loop to GCS last week and having those Bucs coming up to the city. Onward Christian Soldiers -
  15. Wow. Didn’t see that train coming. Strong balanced offense, total defense, and special teams led GCS to be completely dominated by the Stangs. Freshman are beginning to play vital roles while leadership is emerging on D. Granted it was our second win in two years but this group showed a ton of heart, energy, passion, and will to win tonight. Let’s keep this going. Two big (and final) home games coming up before three roadies.
  16. I believe the have’s/have not’s referenced facilities and coaching. CPA is a good example in both football and basketball as the “have’s”. Admin has done well identifying exceptional young coaches for both sports coupling it with excellent facilities. Whether or not an athlete is receiving direct benefits at some of these schools or indirect benefits in many unique forms, will continue to be gray areas the TSSAA needs to reign in.
  17. Seems like D2 AA & AAA is more about the haves and have nots. If you you’re a “have” you’ve great great facilities AND great skill position coaching. That seems to be the attraction for the parents and kids looking for development, exposure, and at the dream of playing at the next level. Most, 98% of the kids, aren’t playing at that next level but are making that the focus on deciding on which private school HS education to “take”. Making the rounds in Nashville, JPII, Father Ryan, Ensworth, MBA, BA, CPA, BGA, and to an extent FRA meet the requirements mentioned. Goodpasture and Lipscomb do not and have a long way to go. Imagine a high end private school in Murfreesboro and the damage it would do for those big public schools in Rutherford County much like the damage already done in Davidson/Williamson counties with these private school athletic programs providing financial aide ie paying athletes to play on their campus. The “have nots” are building strong character. Let alone all those D2 A schools who’ve been doing that for years and trying to just just stay afloat financially.
  18. 1-14 in D2 AA since joining. Nice to see some skilled freshman and sophomores getting playing time for future years. Goodpasture and Kenwood appear to be most likely targets for a win this year but both games are on the road. As well, nice to see a passing attack but opponents are watching film and appears now to be to be doubling receivers as LA hasn’t cumulatively rushed for 100 yards in any games this year. QB needs to stay injury free as he appears to be their O. Love the Mustangs but hard to see any progress in D2. I guess this move just helps build character for all the student athletes
  19. Let’s get this going. Would love to hear your thoughts about the upcoming season and outlook.
