I'm hoping Derek stays put at Lewis County for a while.  I think he can make them a legit AP top 10 team for you.  Or maybe not. You seem to take issue regardless of where they are ranked.

You have done more to put Hohenwald on the map more so than the AP.

I hope the new coach makes them legitimate as well. It would be nice to see them schedule quality opponents and be competitive and even win. I do and have given them credit for some minor success they had years ago such as beating a couple of those Butch Toner Loretto teams.

As far as putting them on the map, nah, I just exposed where their actual placement should be on that map.

Oh, and Lewis County added Fayetteville to their schedule AFTER Fayetteville City won the state title.

    Crazy isn't it?

Wonder why the coach put them on it? LOL because Collinwood was unavailable?

  2. To add: Hohenwald has only played one team all year long with a winning record; and, got blown out by them! Other than Fayetteville, the only other team that they will have faced during the season with a winning record at seasons end is the Riverside school, and maybe the Scotts Hill school. Everyone knows Riverside will come out with the easy win.

Who wants to bet Fayetteville is off the schedule next year?

Look for a 9-3 season record with an early second round exit again this year!

    The AP has spoken.

I guess they must have forgotten what happened last year, which was the same as all the years before. So, I also guess it’s my duty to remind them and, remind them of why they were not in the poll after week two last year.

Hohenwald typically plays one good opponent a year. That means they usually only play one team with a winning record and they typically lose that game. Without looking it up, it seems it used to be Chapel Hill or Columbia Academy. There may have been a fledgling team that ended the season with a winning record some years that Hohenwald beat but not always. Notice how Hohenwald got moved out of the region with Chapel Hill when Chapel Hill was knocking them out of the region championship. Now, with a different coach, I don’t know if they will be pulled out of the region with Riverside but I know in the past, they would have. I’m still surprised they weren’t put in the same region as Richland. Lucky for them, they weren’t.

What you will see with Hohenwald is that their out of region lineup will consist of (oh) 0-50 Spring Hill or some small team such as winless 1A Collinwood or Waynesboro but only if Hohenwald knows they are down. The surprise is the placement of Fayetteville for last year and this year because you never, and I mean NEVER see Hohenwald schedule supposedly equitable out of region teams such as Mt Pleasant or Chapel Hill. But, you will see them go all the way to NW Tennessee and schedule girls basketball school like Obion County. However, they will not schedule Union City Lol.

So, the rankings for Hohenwald is always a misnomer. Except for Fayetteville the past two years, you would see a ranked Hohenwald because of their extremely weak schedule of being undefeated until Chapel Hill or Columbia Academy or Riverside mostly at the end of the regular season. This is due to being in a weak region and scheduling just terrible out of region games. Hence inflated rankings and in most cases, paper championships.

Because of enrollment, in the past because the coach had two good buddies on the T$$AA, you would see Hohenwald roll out of the region with Riverside and back in with Chapel Hill.

Just so the AP voters understand what they are voting on.

  4. I think we pull this one out again this year. We haven’t dropped off much at the QB position like I expected to do but Nolo seems to have gotten stronger each game/week.

Giles was good for us till we let off the throttle but so far, this game will be our test.

If Hohenwald is tenth, both Richland and Mt. Pleasant should be ranked higher especially Mt Pleasant. Though both boast only one loss on the year, both do claim playing a 5A school. The difference is the 5A school Hohenwald played has only won a handful of games over the past decade and most of those wins were against basketball school Lawrenceburg. At least Mt Pleasant’s 5A school (that beat them) has had some success. To top that off, they also beat undefeated Richland so, they do have somewhat of a more difficult schedule.

As for Richland, their only loss was to a decent to good Mt Pleasant team. Though it wasn’t against Fayetteville, still, better than Hohenwald.

Everyone knows it will be Mt Pleasant versus Riverside in Rd three. So, why are they not ranked but yet Hohenwald is? Hohenwald never plays anyone.

However, just so it’s known, Page is still ranked and ranked high!

This might be the hardest game to pick all year. Both have been so good. I thought Page might drop off a little after last year, but they may even be better this year because they can actually run the ball his year. I'll go with Nolo at home.

I agree with both of your first two statements. This is a difficult game to predict and, as you, thought there would be a drop off but, also as you, I think we are better this year.

Nolo at home would give them an edge but we have that been here before mentality. I think we pull it out in the fourth.

  7. I can guarantee you guys one thing; no matter what, Columbia Central will be in the weakest 5A region in the state!

They will be moved out of our region but will be with Spring Hill and the likes. Since Winchester is on the rise, they won’t be with them either.

  8. 6 hours ago, GeneralForrest said:

i will say Page has been phenomenal overall since moving to 5A.

Coach Rathbone had the program on a level keel since he took over and now on the rise.

We all like him and the thing is, like you pointed out, doing better in 5A than when we were in 4A. Have to admit though that the large influx of kids have helped but not as much as the other Williamson schools being in 6A.

  9. I just want to point out that excluding Fayetteville, opponent records of teams #10 Lewis County have played is a combined 7-23. What that means is, excluding Fayetteville (who drubbed Lewis County again this year) those teams have only won seven games COMBINED. Together, they have lost 23!

Good to see Hohenwald break back into the top 10 after being out for more than a year now. If I remember correctly, they began the season ranked as they usually do but were knocked out of the top 10 after the Fayetteville game last year.

How many gold balls have y’all played for? I forget.

They’re loaded in talent at skill positions across the field. They have 1 loss to a 5A school where the game was tied late.

Have to be careful putting stock into a 2A school playing and even beating a 5A school. I know of a (certain) 2A school that scheduled an (oh) for 50 5A school just because they knew they could win; and they did. Big time chest pumping for them beating a big time 5A school.

I just looked at Columbia’s schedule and though they are not Spring Hill terrible, they are awfully bad. Makes me now wonder if Mount Pleasant is really any good. Their schedule shows they only beat Cascade by a touchdown and I don’t know if they have ever been any good. General chids a poster from their program so, the way they banter makes me think they are not.

Then again, this 1A region may equal the one Hohenwald is always in. Has Richland played anyone of value this year? Was the FACS team wNeeley spoke of good? Don’t know what that acronym stands for.

Even though Giles County dropped down to 3A, I would still love to see the Marshall County/Giles County game resume.  They haven't played the last couple of years.

Have they not? Is that Giles or Marshall not wanting to schedule? Seems that’s a larger rivalry than us and Giles. Was it them that canceled they Lawrenceburg game? That was another rivalry too.

  12. 8 minutes ago, utpoolman said:

No Richland is not there. But they’re closer than they’ve been since the mid 90’s. ( when they played Page 92, 93). Current HC is from you’re favorite Hohenwald school. Definitely not Cornersville of 4/5 years ago ( but neither is Cornersville ) also not Cornersville of the 30 years prior to those few good years. Are we winning a gold ball , well probably not anytime soon but in our current region alignment (2A ) , they can compete for a few years .

Now for actual game .. Mt Pleasant definitely isn’t on a down year. They’re loaded in talent at skill positions across the field. They have 1 loss to a 5A school where the game was tied late in the 4th. Winner more than likely wins this region and has a much easier path for a couple playoff games.

I’m still not sold on the Raiders myself but that’s because I’ve lived thru these last 30 years of mediocrity. Kind of like being a Tennessee fan currently. However I’m also old enough to remember the Alabama years of mediocrity so that lets the hope live..

Good post! The “Current HC is from you’re favorite Hohenwald school.“ made me chuckle.

Like most others, I like a feel good story. Don’t have a dog in the fight (game) but I hope Richland can pull it out. I don’t see it happening but I’m pulling for them. I can relate to that program and what they have dealt with for the longest time.

Are they pulling kids from Pulaski now? Seems years ago Pulaski was pulling kids from Richland. That was odd. Seems playing for Richland would be easier but we have like 12 high schools up here so, I’m not sure.

  13. 6 minutes ago, GeneralForrest said:

some kids are obviously not peyton manning.

many youth coaches are terrible, and just play their own kids

General, years ago I was watching a youth football game down in Columbia. I saw a coach put a kid in that had no idea how to even line down/get in a stance (D lineman). In between series, a parent explained/showed the kid how to line down. The problem was the kid lined up offsides; twice in a row. The coach pulled the kid and was ranting and raving and yelling the kids name on the sideline.

The problem I had was the coach or coaches had not shown the kid the proper way to line up/down. Second, it’s a wonder the coach didn’t get jacked on the sideline.

  14. It’s been decades since Richland was relevant in football, maybe forty years and that was before the growth of middle Tennessee. It’s (winning) is not going to change over night for them. Too much going against them. They were one of the largest 1A teams in the entire state and still couldn’t win. Their coaching carousel looks like Auburn minus the championships and the current coach actually went backwards in his last coaching tenure (one of those Hickman Co. schools I believe).

Yeah, Richland may not suck right now at this moment but they aren’t Cornersville of 4/5 years ago either. I don’t know much about that little 1A ball but I do know some times teams catch a schedule where the region and out of region teams just happen to be very good in a certain year. Sometimes those same teams all have a down year too and, if Richland does pull out a W, that’s what this year is.

If so, build on it and gain confidence. But, as for now, Richland is not there.

  15. If Richland is going to build a program they need games like this. 4/5-0 is not bad but looking at who they have played, it’s not that impressive. We all know of teams (or a team) that doesn’t play quality opponents and how they perform in playoffs. If Richland wins they will have my attention but as for now, the program itself does not know how to win. Cornersville several years ago built their program and learned how to win and did. Cascade looked good to everyone last year but General. Richland this year is just last year’s Cascade.

Lewis County’s schedule has been a low key gauntlet with a fortunate, yet explosive Community offense out the gate. Panthers backed that up into Fayetteville getting brought to earth early against the best team they will see all year.  Handled the entire county of Hickman in multiple weeks, and boat racing Spring Hill coming down in class— stepping on the field should have been able to match us with athlete. This new era Lewis County offense….

Honestly, not to start an argument but all of your points here exemplify Lewis County for the past decade with the exception of having Fayetteville. Unless Hohenwald starts scheduling tougher competition and begins making it past the second round (more than a fluke), the new coach isn’t accomplishing anything more than the last and the program is still the same.

This new era Lewis County offense, between Coach and QB1, this new coach has really got a fresh vibe from this team. Very efficient on offense to sustain long field positioning and short field >40, forget about it, it’s 4 down territory && have the big play capacity from 7, 11, 26 and 31 to score any given play with 16 delivering the football.

I really hope this maintains and the program continues to advance. I remember a couple/few years ago about a discussion when Hohenwald was down two scores late in the 4th and decided to punt.
