Physically they looked very much like a Middle School team.  Just being honest.  People will look at the score and say Coffee ran it up but no press after first quarter, played zone all night, running clock fourth quarter and Bella only took two shots in third quarter after scoring 31 in first half.

that is false of a statement as I have ever heard. I was there and the score was deliberately ran up by coffee pressing the entire first quarter playing the starter all the way to the fourth quarter until you did not play them anymore. reason the Vinson girl did not score as many in 3rd is she had a special defense on her and could not score so do not try to twist it to make it sound like coffee coaches get a pass on this.  injuries happen when you do this and people do not tolerate it I am just glad my rebelettes showed class something the coffee team did not

  2. my rebelettes have played one game and we were down two players to a very impressive webb girls team. this year will be very hard to judge if we use scores game to game because nobody will know who played, who was able to practice and who was under quarantine and just came back and that makes every game in the district count that much more. having one or two girls out could be the difference in winning by 20 or losing by 20. good luck to all in the last year of the district

  3. i made the trip down 131 with an old friend of mine to see what many predicted the game of the state in the second round and all we got out of it was some good conversation from a nice couple out of tullahoma and a poorly coached and highly undisciplined team from marshall county.  we were very disappointed in the lack of game plan on that side of the ball from the mc staff but knew that the wildkittens would be a tough opponent as my rebels have witnessed. most action and passion was seen at halftime as we headed to get one of the steak sandwiches and witnessed a brawl between teammates.  maybe nolensville will be better

I heard Moore Co has a girl that transferred from Tullahoma. Is that right? How good is she?

if it is who i think it is she only played jv for wildkittens last season when fc played them so might be a reserve varsity player in single a ball

It was pretty even as I had a hunch it might be.  MC has some good athletes but could use better team discipline.  Lots of penalties kept putting them in holes.  #2 kept them in the game with big kick returns, scoring on 1.  He also juiced their running game.  Otherwise the MC offense was mostly flat tonight.  Nolensville had a good game plan that kept MC's defense off balance most of the night. Expect to see these teams to meet again in 2 weeks.

I would be inclined to think ole tully would be there in two weeks but not sure how this region vs other region will play but them Wildcats should be a hard out.

Looks like you are correct.  Coffee, Columbia, Franklin County, and Shelbyville will be 4A in same district.  Wonder who they will add.  Possibly Warren or even a Rutherford County Team such as Rockvale.  Going to be interesting to see.

really will not matter for our grouping who we will add to our district because i believe we still end up in a Rutherford County region and looks like we would continue to go east out of the region if i have distinguished between the correct schools. i would like to see the pioneers in our district

They better keep their playmaker healthy.

drove over to watch ol’ tully versus brainerd and the playmaker did not even play which made it more impressive of a win against a very athletic and physical 5-1 team but i have yet to witness the tigers in person

For the most part. MC is leaps and bounds better now than they were when they played Tullahoma.

as someone who watched ol’ tully dismantle my rebels in winchester a few moons ago, i will say ol’ tully is leaps and bounds better than they were early in the season as well

Coffee also is young.  Only one Senior on the team, although she is a pretty good one. Will probably start three sophomores.   And yes depth will be an issue for Coffee County this year.  Must stay healthy and out of foul trouble. All that said they still should be preseason favorites.

have they not been the favorites the last few seasons? I do not know their line-up very well other than the senior and the junior they have returning not familiar with sophomores.  how many seniors does lincoln, lawrence, and tully have coming back that will make a difference?

    Coffee is loaded!

have been for the past few years but I believe all the teams can be beat from what I saw in district tournament.  i think depth will play a factor on teams this season and all teams will need it to compete it but i do not know if coffee has as much as lincoln and lawrence and i know we are young

I think Harstfield has the ability to have a very disciplined team.... two years ago. players better not have their shirt tails showing or he would bench them... they were on time, doing what they needed to do... but I am not seeing it this year.  I think he gets it headed in the right direction, but it is going to take a few lean bad years to get there.

sounds like he is going through the same things his  wife went through at shs before she quit

Agree. A close battle means they are a legit state championship contender. If not, they could be just another hot team early in the season that fades in the playoffs. Also, they rely a bunch on one player...if he gets hurt or worn down, that could be an issue.

from everything I witnessed on Friday against my hapless rebels Tullahoma has a great offensive and defensive line and one very good player with a lot of good high school players around him.  they could lose a few players and still compete in my view

I bet Lincoln County is trying to get below that line. They have been complaining for years about how they can’t be expected to compete in the top class due to numbers....didn’t seem to bother Tullahoma last year though.

end of original district as we all know it. lincoln fc cc sc columbia all go up and I wish my rebelettes would not. tullahoma and lawrence will remain I’d assume and both should do ok. i do not think any of the 8aaa teams going up will be able to advance very far versus murfressboro or east tn schools.

Hensley just finished her first year and I have not heard anything about her leaving. They did get a new boys coach.

they can not seem to keep a coach at that school

So you don’t think they can run the table again? Who is their biggest challenger?

they will run the table and nobody in their district should give them any real problems they have a lot of good girls and a very experienced coach

Fayetteville,Eagleville , and Cornersville also have good bigs.

Huntland should win their district and they are much better than anyone in surrounding area including moore county.  If my soon to be new named rebelettes could keep the talent from going to Huntland we would be very good, but single A hornets are much better than us.

Wonderful hire by Cumberland Co to get the young & successfully experienced assistant from Upperman! Has great coaching bloodlines and will do great there.

Tyler Summit would ruin the last statement.  Congratulation to the young man.

Coffee will be good for years. I watched Olivia Vinson play AAU today and she is the real deal. Gonna be a great PG for the Lady Raiders. She understands the game and performs at a very high level.

same as now, one trick pony

Dekalb had not won a district game in 10 years when Coach was hired. 0 wins in 10 years and was even featured on the cover of the Tennessean. So 18 wins in 7 years after 0 wins in 10 years was phenomenal. 2 region appearances in 7 years at Dekalb which it had been 20 years without a region appearance before Cope. They were 22-257 with the 5 coaches before he arrived. So hard to even fathom that a team could be that bad. Columbia has been beyond pitiful but they have won a couple games in 3 years. Can’t imagine a team losing 137 district games and a first year coach taking that team to a region semi-final. That is so amazing.

amazing average of 2.5 district wins over 7 years and as one individual mentioned on here previously he will need his statue for regular season wins in district 8aaa

Blackman got upset and ended up in Coffee Co bracket or Coffee would have been in Substate as well. Blackman beat Coffee Co in a close game, they beat Tullahoma by 40 in the region finals. Coffee has played Blackman, Riverdale, White Co, Cookeville, Stewart’s Creek, Oakland, Baylor, Tullahoma and is 15-6 against those teams. Next season they have Riverdale, Blackmon, Baylor and White Co on the schedule again. It is easy to sit back and talk after the fact but I guarantee you each team and coach has tried for the last 2 years to beat Coffee in 8-aaa and they just can’t find a way. Lol if Tennessee wins the SEC and loses it’s bowl game next year they will be on cloud 9!!!!

I would rather my rebelettes get beat by 40 in a region final than get beat in a close first round region game.  but as you said it is easy to sit back and talk after the fact, such as blackman being upset in their district tournament, rather than discussing the facts of regular season means nothing if you can not win in postseason. i am sure all teams try to win when they take the court or I sure hope they do. and one team in two years in 8aaa did beat coffee and it happened when it mattered in the postseason. 15-6 regular season only equates to a 1-3 region record in three years. my rebelettes are 0-3 in the region during that same time.  but the track record has always been solid with coach cope in postseason 4-10 at dekalb as well as the district record 18-68. amazing how a coach can only get 18 district wins but still get 126 career wins at dekalb.
