Coffee Co returns their leading 3 scorers including back to back MVP in Vinson. Gannon, Reel and Fulks will all 3 be solid this year as well. The 4 girls that quit scored 76 points between them last season lol. And btw those asst coaches and favorites have not lost a district game the past 2 seasons. Vinson has not lost a regular season district game since her Freshman season and has never lost a district game at home, pretty amazing. Tullahoma, Lawrence and Lincoln will be 2nd-4th, Columbia will be 5th and Franklin Co and Shelbyville will be bad very very bad. Stop wishing and giving me wannabe scenarios - Fact is Coffee Co is 28-1 against Lincoln,Lawrence,Tullahoma and Columbia the past 3 seasons 28-1,28-1,28-1. Truly remarkable and almost laughable at how easy it has been. In those 29 games Coffee Co has outscored the other 4 teams by over 600 points. That is an average district winning margin of 20 points per game.

nobody disagrees with the regular season just question the one district championship in all those victories to go with region wins.  last three years shelbyville, tullahoma, coffee all have district championships. coffee has three region losses and one region win but a lot of regular season wins. not saying my rebelettes are any better because we have not won in a long time but i was always told it is not what you do in the regular season that counts.  only team to go to a sectional or region final in a long time is tullahoma.  i am a firm believer of playing tough opponents to prepare for tournaments and glad to see my FC teams playing stone memorial and other tough teams to make us better

Lincoln County is definitely deep and their point guard has the potential to be the district MVP. I don’t know anything about Lawrence.

What transfers did Columbia and Tullahoma get?

pg for falcons is good and could be mvp if she can lead them to wins along with their dominant post game. lawrence was very deep last season and I believe only lost one player that started.  columbia has a few new transfers in from aau and was told coffee girls moved to tullahoma.  coffee not as deep this year with loss of seniors and girls not coming back out due to assistant coaches and favorites. 8aaa could be a roller coaster

Duncan is a big loss, but they have a senior post (Ferrell I think) who is really good. Also, they will have 3 sophomores that I have seen play for Tullahoma tide that are talented enough to make a big difference. If that’s all they got then they may not be able play at the pace they did last year, but I don’t think they are in rebuilding mode yet.

I hear the new transfers could help both lady lions and tullahoma. the losses and lack of depth could hurt my rebelettes, last raiders, and eagles. Deepest teams seem to be Lawrence and lincoln

I will agree that Tullahoma does have talent returning and also a coach who likes to keep them in the gym and not afraid to work. I picked Tullahoma 4th mainly on retuning experience that Lincoln and Lawrence have over them.  But I will say any of the three could finish in spots two thru four.  At this point just hope we get to see a full season of all sports.

just think they lost a lot and my youngest granddaughter plays at Huntland and was not impressed by Tullahoma’s younger talent coming up. will be some long rebuilding years there now that duncan is gone since that is all they had

Columbia could be the surprise of the district this year.  After being in the cellar the last few years I feel they could be in line to move up in the standings this year.  Were much improved on the court last year even if the wins did not show it, and have most if not all their key players back.  Shelbyville and Franklin County have a ways to go.

with my rebelettes being down for a few years and all saying the eaglettes going backwards I would have to say the fifth seed is up to the lions of columbia or wildkittens over there in tullahoma. my guess is coach in lincoln co figures things out and top two teams will be raiders and falcons but the cats from lawrence could upset all

    1. Coffee - Too much talent

    2. Tullahoma

    3. Lawrence

    4. Lincoln - Enough talent to contend with top teams

    5. Shelbyville

    6. Columbia

    7. Franklin - Losing Holman will hurt

with changes coming I would drop the preseason two and flip it with lawrence county or lincoln county. shelbyville will split with columbia in my opinion and the lady lions will still be improved. I hold hope my rebelettes will not be in the cellar but ashtin is a very big loss for our community I hope she does well in her future endeavors

Who is that? I’ve never heard of him? Honestly couldn’t have done any worse than they had.

won a few state championships awhile back

As mentioned above, this is all fake news. As I understand there is one issue in that there may not be a teaching position available for Chumley in the upcoming school year. That’s the reason for him applying elsewhere to my knowledge and not due to any issues among the staff. If he does move on, I’m sure there is another parent with a good player out there looking for a job so no worries

two positions available for parents if I heard correctly because Gannon is not returning to staff.  could that be fake news as well?  ask current players and find out.

I had heard that Chumley was interviewed for the Cannon Co. job. Thought that your post may have meant that he got it, but didn't know.

yes I was told by a canon booster he interviewed and is waiting for early this week. told they lost some reserves because of a current assistant and will not be as deep over next few years with daughters playing.  can not be fake news when two assistants are not asked back but still leaves plenty of parents on the bench for cope

If Coffee Co. will beef up their schedule and sacrifice a few wins, they will advance much further. Columbia will stay in the middle. Shelbyville and FC  both lost key players, so whoever has best freshmen class may  be the one who stays out of cellar.

did coffee county lose some assistant coaches or am i hearing that wrong?  does that mean coach cope will have to go get more parents to help?  what does that do to them if they lose players and which players?

The past couple of seasons, you could throw a blanket over positions 2-5. I agree with this finishing order on paper, but this year I think the parity blanket may get a little bigger. Coffee County rules again and I don't say this to be arrogant (just reality). With that said, CC has a Peyton Manning/Florida Gator problem when it comes to post season play. I would have said a Braves of the 90s complex, but they did win one WS. The regular season record over the past 3 seasons is phenomenal and I have enjoyed it. However, bottom line is, teams are judged by results in late Feb/early March and CC has little to show for their mountain of wins. I'm not saying anything JPC and the Lady Raiders don't know already and its not a criticism, its just the way it is.

Can Columbia fight to the top half of the standings? Can Shelbyville fight off FC to stay out of the cellar? Can  CC "survive and advance?" Those are the 3 questions I look most forward to answering next year.

It is a postseason sport.  You can win regular seasons each year but does not matter if you do nothing in postseason.  I hope my rebelettes can stay in top half of this district but I can not believe how far the eagles have fallen from Bedford County. Columbia has improved each year since 2016.  Good assessment of league

Of course you would. JP has put Coffee County on the map and made them relevant. But give credit where you wish. Coach Cope has won wherever he’s been. Dekalb Co thought they knew more than he did too. That program will be right back where they were before he got there. Does Belichek have great assistant coaches?  Absolutely and I have no don’t Coffee County has done very good ones as well.  So let’s buy some popcorn and sit in the stands and enjoy the games shall we?

I will have my soda and bag of extra salty popcorn in Franklin County hoping to watch rebelettes get their first district win

Coaching has a lot to do with this but so does good players. JP has his team playing good right now. Pulling for Coffee Co!

i will say more to do with assistants than cope

I think anything could happen in regionals and beyond. The physical and psychological hold Riverdale has had over the area and most of the state has evaporated over the past 12 months. There are still good basketball teams in the Boro and East of here also. Bradley and Stone Memorial will have plenty to say about it, but what was once a dream (winning a region 4 AAA game or advancing to the sub state) is now a possibility. Still plenty of growing to do for CC, but plenty of ball left to make that happen.

As for FC, best focus on the future. This year is lost.  I would be playing the youngsters early and often hoping to improve for ‘20-‘21.

being around girls basketball in this area over forty years I can say that there is still a lot of ball to go for teams so advancing to regional games and state games should not be the focus of any team in this area.  as for my rebelettes I think playing young girls and improving this year to get ready for the future is a good move if coach g goes that way.  girls have improved but we have a ways to go

Must have been an “ugly” game as they say.  Low scoring.  Also noticed Shelbyville with the upset win over Tullahoma.

do not think they count as upsets

Very good assessment . Big game tomorrow is MC and Huntland. Fayettevile will be 3-0 after tomorrow.

makes me think what could of been at FC if those girls had stayed to be rebels instead of hornets

Good win for CC. Established themselves early and game was never really in doubt. Vinson was lights out early and Graham shot the ball well after a slow start. This was CCs first test in 8AAA and they passed with flying colors.

Better off than my poor rebs. another year of coffee being the best in the district

Duncan now 17-22 career in district 8-aaa

I do go back to previous post I think a lot of players would take that record along with the mvp and championship
