  7. Collins Hill Captures Cleveland Duals by B.B. Branton posted December 13, 2008 Collins Hill won five of the first seven weights and went on to defeat South Dade (Fla.), 33-26, in the championship finals of the 25th Annual Cleveland (Tn.) In the semis, Collins Hill stopped Father Ryan, 58-9, while South Dade defeated host Cleveland 48-13. "The finals was a good battle between two of the best in the Southeast,'' said head coach Cliff Ramos, who'se winning Eagles improved to 11-1. Starting at 125, CH had wins from John Allgood (fall), Allen Willard (major dec.), Joel Smith (pin), Taylor Knapp (pin) and Gary Tiller (major dec.) for a 22-7 lead after seven matches. South Dade's two wins came from All-American Wilson Metellus (dec.) and two-time Greco-Roman national champion Kendrick Sanders (major dec.). South Dade closed to within, 29-26, with five wins in the next six matches, but Eagle junior T.J. Mitchell majored Mauricio Villanueva, 10-1, for the clincher. ''The match was a contrast in styles and Collins Hill had a little more fire power than we did tonight,'' said South Dade coach Victor Balmaceda. He also noted that, "They were able to stay off their backs and we didn't. Our young guys need to keep from giving up bonus points and our veterans need to pin for us to defeat the best.'' 9. Cleveland beat McCallie tonight 40-27---Everyone made weight for Cleveland which pleased Coach Heath --Cleveland wrestles again Friday night at the Jones Center and then will be at UTC OLDTIMERS Duals on Saturday.
  10. does harry know he is covering these bets--or will we just inform him at another time--say jan 24??
  11. Come one come all to the first annual Cleveland High Wrestling Golf Tournament--on Friday May 9th Cleveland will be having a golf tournament to help fund our upcoming season---the fun will start at noon with free hot dogs and hamburgers---then a shotgun start will start the tourney at 1:30--the tournament is limited to the first 25 four man teams so get your entry in early--see brochure for futher details!!! http://webmail.aol.com/35790/aol/en-us/Mai...nt_brochure.pdf
  12. cleveland only returned 1 medalist last year so your assumption that cleveland will not be a team to watch is great---i didn't know that what happened the year before had anything to do with an average bunch of kids believing in what hard work --determination--dedication --and a great coaching staff -- can do for you---it brings a smile to my face every time we are called team jones--do you not think that mr jones would not have national champions on his team not just state champions --- if it is like you assume i would think mr jones would at least "buy" the very best wrestlers that he could ---our school is very lucky that 35 years ago he went here and was a wrestler--the whole state is lucky he fell in love with wrestling and is one of it's biggest fans--so overlook us again--you are right this year was a fluke--3rd in duals--2nd in traditional--and a 26-6 dual record---- our losses twice to bradley--baylor--ooltewah--collins hill ga---and christianburg va-----i think we had a great season--and now that i read your post that with 2 returning medalist that we will not be that good i will go find the magic closet get some more of mr jones money or whatever else you think we here at cleveland did all year to get to the place we have gotten--as our coach has said--it is a step--and not the step we will stay on--so you keep in your mind that we will not be that good this next year as our wrestlers go back to work!!!!!!!!!
  13. congrats to both of the rhea wrestlers--great job!!!!!
  14. you and i and everyone that supports wrestling including the kids that were eliminated without a chance to wrestle back know the answer to this situation is to have a true double elimination ----i am sure these wrestlers that have trained all fall and winter if not longer-- and have watched their weight all season--could really care less if they had to wrestle till midnight or 4 in the morning to have a chance to wrestle back for a medal---but now as of today's chattanooga paper the tssaa is considering cutting the number of weight classes--so instead of more kids seeing they have a chance to participate you will only have somewhere between 7-12 weight classes---the excuse they use is because of the forfeits when every team cannot field a full team--but why does that matter when as individuals the kids from these teams still have a shot at an individual state championship--kids have so much more to do these days then in years past--it takes a special dedicated kid to make it in high school wrestling--whether they are a state champion or not--and now they want to cut weight classes that will hurt the schools that do have a thriving wrestling programs
  15. i could see this being done but i would like to throw in ---instead of having the two strongest regions wrestle each other every year (3-4) put it on a rotating basis--some years you wrestle your neighbor--some years you travel---the way it would be with yours 3-4 would beat each other up maybe the winner would only take 8-9 wrestlers where a team from a weaker 2 regions could take 13-14---if you rotate then it is just the luck of the draw
