Good thing we aren’t in Florida then huh? It would benefit a ton of the smaller schools  that don’t have the pools of kids to choose from! They should start by policing Shelby County like they do the rest of the state! Something has to change though and TSSAA knows that!

I have no idea who your team is, but Memphis and other Shelby Co. schools have hardly made a dent, if you’re talking Game 15 appearances. Outside of a couple by Whitehaven, I can’t recall the last team in a final.

For perspective the county school I’m associated and graduated from only has 7,600 people in the entire county with a median age of roughly 47. That’s not very many 14-18 year olds to choose from. I think the football team had 25-28 kids or around there.
On the other hand Shelby County has 916,000+ with a median age of 36. This isn’t just about Shelby county, but all the big ones with huge economic advantages!

An urban/rural split would benefit tons of smaller schools that have to compete with counties with 120x the amount of people. Especially the ones who can pick and choose their players from a pool like that!

I also agree with Pujo about charter and magnets and they will eventually be phased into the private divisions because it is obviously an advantage plus all the funding! Add that county schools can’t go recruit outside of their county like charters and magnets!

Florida tried urban/rural split two years ago. 4 urban classes, 4 rural classes. Didn’t work. Next year they will have 7 regular classes, 1 urban class for small schools only.

I am inclined to wager a substantial portion of my financial assets on the likelihood that Waggoner shall transition to an alternative coaching vocation prior to the year 2028. It is my contention that discerning individuals are beginning to perceive his coaching prowess as lacking in the requisite excellence. Allow me to articulate the following assertion: Waggoner represents a markedly superior choice compared to the individual who perpetrated the act of fuel theft.

This individual exhibits a conspicuous propensity for frequent professional transitions, a trait which undermines his credibility and renders him an untenable choice for serious consideration. It is indeed confounding that his candidacy continues to garner attention and support.

Brad Waggoner is a friend of mine, but I can’t argue with the facts. I do believe that the man can coach, as you don’t spend 3 years on an ACC staff, working for a coach as demanding as Paul Johnson, without being good. P.S.- Like your vernacular.

Which luminary shall reprise the mantle to helm Trousdale County's football endeavors? Shall it be the venerable Waggoner, Barker, or the illustrious Creasy? Might Clint grace us anew in the capacity of coach? Pray, to which sheriff doth your discourse pertain? Should it be the distinguished Ray Russell, his acumen is indeed noteworthy.

Most definitely will not be Waggoner. He just accepted a job in Florida that he has had his eyes on for years.

Yeah, I’ve seen it cause issues too. I read in a newspaper that he was just going to teach, so I assumed it was at CRHS. Maybe I misunderstood. Are there any guys on his staff ready to take it over?

I’m not familiar with Metro. Maybe someone who is will chime in. I’ve seen them shuffled in small systems, so it shouldn’t be a problem at all in Metro, if they do want him in another building.

    Agree.

The man literally sacrificed time, moments, memories you can't get back with his own family for every single athlete at that school. (and many others)

To those that continue to be negative about him and continue to bring him up; He's been loyal, hardworking and just his entire coaching career. Ask anyone that actually has a leg to stand on in regard to Coach.

One of my favorite stats to point out; The late Bill Horton never won another playoff game at Rhea Co. after Hammontree ended his 10 year run as his defensive coordinator.

This late in the year, you’d have to think they’d go with an Asst. on staff, right? I’m pretty new to the area so still learning how folks do things around here…if Woods stays there to teach, it could be hard on a new guy/staff coming in…

Yes. I have seen that cause problems. In my last coaching stop, if a coach resigned they got them into another building. Sometimes the very next day. Welcome.

OK, I dont think i said anything about his ability to coach but he enjoys the interview process because he loves to be petted and praised which is why his selfie game is so strong.  He did not leave GP in a better place becuase he led all the GP gullibles to believe he was there for life and then bailed on them at first opportunity.  There is nothing honorable about going to a program and staying for only a few years and then leaving when the talent graduates.

I’m not used to the selfie generation myself. There’s an old saying “Don’t complain when the rattlesnake bites you, you knew it was a rattlesnake when you picked it up.” Lol. Maybe it will work out well for both sides. Good discussion.

Everyone that knew the GP coach knew he only cared about easy wins and having a strong selfie game.   I think he applied for every job under the sun every single year and then would tell the poor GP gullibles that he was GP for life.  I know he applied for three jobs down near my way and did not get to the final interviews because they knew he was a used car salesman.  i bought some snake oil off of him one time at the gas station corner and still have arthritis.  Wake up GP people he used you and bolted when the recruiting well ran dry.

I respect your honest opinion, sir. But as a friend and former colleague of Coach Waggoner, I will defend him up to a point. Brad is a good coach. You don’t spend time on an ACC staff without being good. He led the school in Georgia, where I ended up finishing my career, to their best season in 29 years. He has improved each situation that he has been in, including, as you no doubt know, leading Trousdale Co. to Game 15. GP knew his history when they hired him. And, as he said, he has had an eye on this Florida job for many years. Brad is one of very few who really enjoys the application/interview process. I especially appreciated the way that he included and paid homage to Hall of Fame Coach Benny Hammonds at GP. He leaves GP in a better place than they were in when he arrived, IMO. Now it’s up to them to make a good hire and keep building on what Brad started. Thank you for your time.

  10. Not a GP guy but am a friend of Coach Waggoner. He felt certain that they would get move down to 2A this past season, and felt he had a team capable of winning state. BTW, the article in the Knoxville paper said that he had one HC job in Georgia. This is not correct. He was HC at Chattooga, Decatur, Lumpkin Co. and Elbert Co.

Used to be a big rivalry game for the Eagles back in the old District 5 AAA days of the 80’s and early 90’s, now they just play every now and again. Played last year and Cleveland smacked the Eagles around up in Evansville. Unless something changes that will be game 5 for Rhea over in Cleveland this season.

    Hopefully with a different outcome….:D

And the winner of that game almost always won the 5 AAA Championship.

Close resource from HR says it’s not likely to happen. But also, I’m not sure you have seen AE play very much. They are nowhere close to “being back” whatever that means. They lack numbers, talent, resources, and the schedule is not favorable. It’s going to be a long road to being successful. SS was not successful in middle tn with way more athletes. Just sayin

Nobody can win at La Vergne. The school has been open since the late 80’s and has a total of 2 playoff victories, one by SS.

Mid-state private school football is on another level. 99% of the rest of TN high school football isn’t like this, nor can it be. Seems like a great person, wish him well.

No dog in this but not Private AAA. It’s all about the two Chattanooga privates the past several years.
