Gordonsville throws the ball well for 1A school. It is a big time equalizer against SP, especially if the big recruit is not playing.

Uh oh if big boy is out that will make things tilt a lot more in Gordonsvilles favor. Should allow them to sustain drives better and get more stops in run game. This changes things  upfront for South Pitt. I am just keeping it real.

One player isn’t going to make that much of a difference. I still say SP names the score. I’m a realist

All good points, but at this time of year and in a Quarterfinal playoff game, give me a Mr Football and better athletes that can take over a game any time. And ER has the better athletes in this one.

I agree that they have better athletes

Whats your pick being based on? just curious. What has SC done and who is on their roster that gives them a chance to beat ER?

Imo they already have a slight edge by beating ER the first matchup. Secondly, they are at home. Third, they are a hard matchup for anybody because they are huge up front. And last, from everything I’ve read, ER is very undisciplined. Hard to beat a good team with no discipline

I’ve seen both of these teams play, and everybody else who has will tell you that if ER plays their BEST game ER will win. The last time these two played ER played their worst game with 4 turnovers and over 125 yards in penalties and still had chance to win the first game. SC dont have enough fire power to beat ER a second time in my opinion

Maybe so. But I’m still going to go with SC

No it’s a once in every 15 year Team through the years. Personally I think the 94 Team was the best. BUT!! This Team has the fastest Defense I’ve seen. Also the Athleticism on the WHOLE Team is better imo. One of the issues and it’s a great issue to have is soooo many Game changing Athletes on this Team it so hard to decide what to do. Honestly there are 6-8 play makers on this Team that was shine on any 1-2 and some 3 A Teams imo.  I’ve said all alone it would really Suprise me if anyone scores on South Pittsburg in the Playoffs the 4 points allowed per Game the 1st string is probably averaging 2 Points per Game if looked back on. And half of those were a Big Play. I don’t see any Team in the east to drive the field again and again. It’s not gonna happen and the Teams we have played would probably tell you that. This is Gordonsville BUT not your typical Team. I travel there for work all the time and talk to people and I just don’t see the enthusiasm. Pirates by 28 if the Pirates play like they have the last 2 Playoff Games it could get worse.

Definitely no secret that this Gordonsville team isn’t like some of the past. We lost a big class that had high expectations and never made it past the quarters in their 4 years. This team wasn’t supposed to be as good and honestly is kind of a surprise to have made it this far. We will be better within the next few years. Got a good group of underclassmen and Jr high kids. I think the Pirates have their way with us this year as well. Just want our boys to compete and not throw in the towel early

How does a Gordonsville fan know this and an SP fan doesn’t even know it?  I wasn’t sure what we average. Are you a researcher or a coach? :roflol:

Not a coach. I guess you could call me a researcher. I just went to SP’s schedule on coacht and went to the “analysis” tab. Shows how many points scored and given up. Then I divided both numbers by 12 for games played

Good luck to Gordonsville. But to get that Win you will have to get by possibility the Best and fastest Defense I’ve seen at South Pittsburg! And a Offense when in a groove will not be stopped. As I’ve said since August this is a once in every 10-15 year Team at South Pittsburg. Not Gloating just telling it like it is!

So are you saying this SP team is one of the best in program history?

We know you are coming into town expecting the same outcome as last year. I hope you’re wrong though lol.

“Expecting” isn’t the right word. “Hoping” is more like it. You guys are obviously a different animal than you were last year and we lost a big group of seniors. I’m sure it would take the game of our lives to leave with a W this year

  9. Just looked at the same thread on the 3A board and thought I’d make one for 1A. Pretty interesting to look at and get everyone’s thoughts on it.

Teams in bold have already been beaten.

Gordonsville is the only team who wasn’t in final poll that is still playing.

Final AP poll for 1A on 10/30

    1. South Pittsburg

    2. Dresden

    3. Moore County

    4. McKenzie

    5. MASE

    6. Coalfield

    7. Union City

    8. Whitwell

    9. Collinwood

    10. Oliver Springs

    Teams left in Quarterfinals

    Coalfield vs. Oliver Springs

    South Pittsburg vs. Gordonsville

    Moore Co. vs. McKenzie

    Dresden vs. Union City

Seen some of Gordonsville this year, but not much of SP. Gordy has some good athletes and a big line. Does SP have enough up front to match Gordonsville. Athletes will probably be equal, unless SP added some firepower after that loss last year.

Are you sure you’ve seen us play? :roflol:You must have seen a different Gordonsville team than the one I have seen all year

Does the rain help or hurt either of the teams you think? i really dont know if either are spread em out passing teams. but also hard to hold on to that wet pig skin hahahaha.

It would hurt us imo. We are able to run the ball effectively because teams have to spread out and respect our passing attack. But if we are unable to throw and catch because the slippery conditions, our run game will be very ineffective because SP can just stack the box on us

Realistically, if SP had athletes galore they can just play man everywhere and stack the box anyways and it would be hard for us to do much on O

Heard last week that this is probably last year for G-ville to be 1A.,going up to 2A...Don't know if that is true or not but that is the talk

We were right at the cutoff for 1A. I think we were the 3rd highest enrollment in 1A. All depends on if TSSAA changes the cutoff number. I know they want to try and keep the same amount of teams in each classification so we could maybe stay 1A depending on what they do to that number. Time will tell

I’m excited for this game Friday night. I know Gordonsville has a dangerous qb but who are some other players to watch? @TheBlueprint

#14 Dalton Hancock has really stepped up big at WR since Gentry went down. Definitely our first option in the passing game

#2 Musgrove is a good solid RB. Doesn’t really burn but can make some good things happen

#22 Jermario Williams is another RB who has came out of nowhere. From Jamaica and is just a sophomore. Just now learning how to play football but is a pretty shifty with the ball in his hands

#34 Kyle Adams. Kind of a do it all type athlete. Plays a lot of positions and is tough hard nosed kid

According to past players..Gordonsville is the toughest atmosphere to play at according to noise level. The fans should turn out this week.

In no particular order these were the loudest for me personally

    Gordy

    Trousdale

    Signal Mountain in early 2010s

Can’t speak for Signal Mountain but our place is for sure a tough spot to play. In my opinion, I think the atmosphere at Turney Ford has fallen off a little bit but still a tough spot.

Same goes for the Creekbank in TC, if the Jackets are good. Good luck going there and coming home with a win. It took us from ‘87 to this year to get another win over there

Shaker U coming to Beene Stadium and Vic Grider field. Gordy fans are loud.

Our fans have been rather subdued this year. Especially the last 2 weeks with it being playoff time. We have had rather small crowds, even at home with good weather. I guess that’s what happens when you go into the playoffs at 6-4. Our fans can be rather spoiled thinking it’s a birthright to go to the quarters or further lately. I expect us to travel well. I hope so anyways. These kids deserve to have the support of the community
