that'd require them starting the Pop Warner program up again, and last i heard, there's almost NO interest in it at the moment, it took a lot of "tooth pullin" to get them to start back up the Junior High Program... maybe in a few years there'll be some movement to start it back up again
I have coached against the Junior High team the last couple of years. They have the athletes but really need some lineman. If they had a handful of kids that would just get in the defenses way they could be dangerous on offense.

I don't think anyone thinks college has it the way it should be now... I truly hope the college debacle doesn't trickle down to high school
Unfortunately it is only a matter of time.

I say Clay 35 to 20.

Man this thread is pretty dry
I think both groups are apprehensive about this game. It should be a good one but these teams have been competitive the last few years and no one wants bulletin board material. I think Clay wins by 12. Say 33-21.

Mercy, never would have dreamed the king of small town football would fall off the cliff.
Harder to get the kids to work like they did before and not as easy to cherry pick talent from surrounding areas once the crown gets knocked off.

Bad situation up there for them kids

Oh bull… TC is as bad or worse than Red Boiling…
No argument here on that point, just saying it’s a mental block sometimes for these kids. Like traveling to certain fields for playoff games and seeing the dread on the kids faces. I know we can beat them just gotta makes sure the players do too.

We have the ability but we also have to convince ourselves we can and will prevail.

Wouldn't need to if people showed up to begin with
Agreed on that I have noticed attendance slowly declining for years.

Clay by 28. After the first quarter. Clay has an excellent chance at Chatt this year. Senior loaded team it looks like.
Will have to see how the Gordy game at the end of the year goes. Before jumping to conclusions IMO.

Clay has a running clock by halftime, who agrees?

I wouldn’t sleep on Clay Co to come out of the East. They have a solid QB and WR combo (brothers I believe). They may very well win our region
They are brothers and two sets of them. Plus 2 sets of cousins that have all played together from peewee on. We seemed to have also found a running game although it is sporadic. Clay and Gordy at the end of the year should be a great game.
-
This is usually a really good game that gets chippy in the 4th. Great atmosphere at their place and always a fun time. I think the Dawgs get it took care of and start their Region play with a win.

We aren’t as good as I originally thought
Well I blew the call on this one. To Monterey I apologize.
-
Only way Monterey wins this one is if Gordy can’t find the field. After watching Clay scrimmage against them they just don’t stand a chance against the Tigers. Run is limited and passing is suicidal, Gordy in a rout. Running clock whole second half.

I’m assuming the coach’s kid playing QB last year for RBS is also at Trousdale now?
Nope he was one of the 3 seniors on last years team.

Red Boiling lost their coach, he left to go coach Softball at Trousdale is what I have been told. I was also told that one of the old coaches took the job back and a lot of the kids walked away. So I doubt there is any history making season on deck for them.

Clay vs. Gordy will come down to who can win in the trenches. I think skill position-wise, both are pretty talented. Huge advantage for the Dawgs getting to basically play every big game (minus Jo Byrns) at home again (unless someone can come to Celina and beat them in the regular season). The home team in this series has won every game since 2017. The big prize for the Region 4 winner is not being forced to go to South Pitt in the playoffs.
However, I think people are sleeping on Jo Byrns. They have athletes and apparently have a really athletic group coming up too. Whether they all play football or not is a different question, plus of course still trying to fill the shoes of the legendary Coach Atkins.
Great point about Jo Byrns athleticism.

Thank you. I have known Coach virtually his whole life. He is a phenomenonal person. There are children in the RobCo area named after him
That’s right I forgot that he had retired. Kinda answers my own question then doesn’t it. Just hope that they find someone to step in and do a solid job always have enjoyed going out there and watching them. Even when my team was not playing them that week.

I think you have it pretty spot on. Quarterfinals is the ceiling for whoever comes out of region 4 this year unfortunately
I believe that as well. But maybe it happens, that’s why we play the games.
-
Thought I might throw this up just to see if anyone besides Gordonsville fans in this region would comment. And that is not meant as a slight to you Tiger fans, just rarely hear from the other teams folks. But just wondering how people thought the region would play out before the annual meeting of SP in round 3.
I figure Gordy has to be the favorite with their QB and WR coming back. Not to mention they will be the biggest team up front in the region.
Next I think Clay will be second with a pretty athletic group but missing the horses up front to compete. Seems to be something in the water up that none of kids hit their growth spurt until in their 20’s.
I believe Red Boiling locks down the number 3 spot by making it 2 in a row against Jo Byrns. Only losing 3 seniors from last year’s squad, they may even give Clay a run for 2nd if they sleep on them.
Finally in the 4th spot, Jo Byrns, really don’t know what has happened to this program. Might not have always won at a high level but they were always so solid, hope the coach gets them back to that.

Only thing that I moderately disagree with is your opinion that it won't affect the smaller schools. From the perspective of acquiring players, I wholeheartedly agree that only a very small fraction will be able to compete for transfers in... where I believe that the impact will be felt is when a 1/A, 2/AA, or even most 3/AAA schools produce a once in a generational type player. True top tier D1 athletes usually stand out wherever they happen to play, but even more so in the lower classifications... that's when the phone starts ringing with "offers" and promises of exposure that will benefit in the future.
It looks like the future of TSSAA transfer restrictions will essentially be an open-door policy, where you can transfer and play without penalty, and are able to accept "payment" to do so. Good luck to the coaches at the small schools regarding keeping little Jimmy and his dad happy to play there when the ability is there to get paid now to play for basically anyone they choose, suffer no consequences to do so, and potentially "prove" to the power 5 universities that you can compete against elite competition.
Agree with this whole heartily.

Until the local leadership gets behind the idea of having a competitive football program it will continue to be undermined. It has nothing to do with the kids only the things that the old hands want.
