A question for City when you guys played Moore County do you feel like yall played your best game?

City has consistently improved game over game since Moore County. On top of that, the rivalry between Moore Co and Fayetteville is only beaten by the rivalry between Huntland and Fayetteville. Emotions are always high going into the City vs Moore Co games every year, and every year over the past 4 (that's 5 games), Moore Co has put more points on City than any other team on City's schedule.

Wrong. . Fayetteville plays the McEwen winner at home 2nd round.

I might not have been clear enough...if so, I apologize. I was more addressing the "who has home field" question.

Fayetteville hosts first two rounds. Round 1 is against South Fulton. Round 2 is against the winner of the Dresden/Eagleville game. Round 3 will be the winner of the Fayetteville/South Fulton/Dresden/Eagleville against whoever wins McKenzie/Wayne Co/Moore Co/McEwen games.

    Hope that helps.

I don't think there will ever be a reduction in the number of classes. There are alot of sub standard teams making the show in each class. Do you want to improve the overall quality of the playoff field? Of course you do. Nobody wants to see the same old 4 at 1 seed blowouts that are so poorly attended that the host loses money. I think we all agree on this. I have  a simple solution that will automatically increase field quality while having the least possible financial impact.

The solution is to not allow the 4 seed from each region to qualify for the playoffs and give all first seed teams a first round bye as a reward for being region champion. All first round games are 2 v 3 seed. A partial bracket example using regions 7 and 8 as the example. Region 7 #1 gets top bracket bye and will play winner of game between region 7 #3 at region 8 #2. The bottom of the bracket has region 8 #1 with a bye and then playing winner of region 8 #3 at region 7 #2.  Will there be some bad 2v3 games? Maybe so. Since most 4 at 1 seeds are horrible , those are gone. 2 seed v 3 seed games usually are better. You are eliminating 8 teams in each class, D1 1A thru 6A. 8 mostly lopsided games per class are eliminated. You get the net effect  of basically eliminating a class (8 #4 seeds per class) while not eliminating any championships. You ensure a higher quality field to start your playoffs with and also give the remaining teams a better financial situation and you keep the 4 seeds at home which saves them money they really don't need to spend on busses and food when the chance of a victory are virtually non-existant. Seems pretty simple to me. My proposal I think goes a long way towards increasing field quality while giving my new system more of an old school feel. It's a win win for all. Thus is all just my opinion.

First, this is a really well written post and it's well thought out. I appreciate that.

Second, I half expected to see "Thank you for coming to my TED talk" at the end.

Third, I like this idea a lot. I think this combined with opening round one of the playoffs with different region vs region matchups would be awesome.

Oh. . I can’t figure out the brackets is it home or away

Fayetteville has home field first two rounds.

third round: if Moore County beats McEwen and McKenzie, Moore Co will play at Fayetteville round 3. if McKenzie wins out, it'll be Fayetteville at McKenzie

first two rounds always go to the higher seed. after that, it's based on where in the bracket the fall and if it's an even or odd year.

"In the third round and semifinals in even-numbered years the bottom team in each bracket shall be the host team"

if two teams from the same region meet in the 3rd round (moore co beats mckenzie), the game is played at the higher seed's field (fayetteville).

To simplify the outcome to a couple of things...the pick 6 was huge, as was the unsportsmanlike on our last drive when it would have been 1 st and goal from the 2. I've NEVER seen that on called, especially in that situation. For those wondering, our back pointed with one finger signalling 1st down. BUT, you can't let a game come down to one or two plays or calls.

Fayetteville has been called for that twice this year in two separate games by separate officiating teams. Is it a new thing this year?

Did they add a bunch of transfers or something? I watched the Fayetteville/McKenzie game last year that McKenzie won. Granted it was a good, close game, but McKenzie won it. And they returned practically the same team with another year of experience with all their key players. So unless Fayetteville added to what they had last year, I see this year going the same way.

big changes in coaching staff, new QB that moves a lot better, different play style on offense that lets 5-7 guys touch the ball instead of 2. add that to the defense that held McKenzie to 14 points and their star RB to less than 75 yards (something i don't think anyone else did last year except maybe S Pitt) and has only improved over this season, and i think Fayetteville takes it this year.

  7. My best stab at it...

    1. Fayetteville

    2. McKenzie

    3. Peabody

    4. Moore Co

    5. S. Pitt

    6. MASE

    7. Clay Co

    8. Gordonsville

    9. Dresden

    10. Lake Co.

    11. Coalfield

My personal opinion is that it gets a little fuzzy after 5 or 6. This is just for my own fun, though...we all know things are going to shake out however, and it can go off the rails real quick on any given day.

If Gleason beats South Fulton Friday night, they get the 3 seed & McEwen gets the 4 seed. This makes it all easy.

If SF wins, I think, this will create a 3 team tie in the region all of them at 3-3. McEwen would have the best season record at 6-4, Gleason beat McEwen but will have just lost to SF & they will both (Gleason & SF) have the same season record. Does this give SF the nod for the 4th spot with a head to head victory? Or does Gleason's stronger season schedule play a part here? If SF pulls this off, there will be an uproar somewhere. But, I feel like since Gleason beat McEwen they will get the nod.

    1. Head to head: If a team has beaten all the other teams that they are tied with for a playoff spot, that team is ranked above the others. This is the first tiebreaker used in any scenario.

    2. Team with the greatest number of victories.

    3. Team that plays the greatest number of teams that won 50 percent or more of their games.

    4. Team that has the greatest number of wins over teams winning 50 percent or more of their games.

    5. Team whose opponents have the most wins.

    6. Team whose opponents have the fewest losses.

    7. Coin flip.

It is important to note when a tiebreaker is needed with three or more teams, if a tiebreaker rather than head to head is needed, once the first tiebreaker is determined, the next tiebreaker returns to head to head. Example: If there is a three-way tie and none of the three beat the other two, the next step is greatest number of victories. If that breaks that tie then it reverts back to head-to-head to break the two-way tie.

from TSSAA rules. there's no "nod", but rather a coin flip if there is no way to break the tie by the standards above.

Same can be said about Fayetteville when they beat Red Banks... look who that team plays but yet you feel thats a good win for them. Stop the bias none of the big dawgs in 1A really play anybody because their the top dawgs.  Peabody, Fayetteville, Mase, and McKenzie all have cupcake schedules.

    Fayetteville's opponents have combined for 39 wins (60.9% average win). McKenzie's has 35 (56.1%). Peabody's has 32 (48.5%).

MASE's opponents have a combined 21 wins, 12 from Mantachie and Halls. That's 24.8% wins average. The easiest (read: CUPCAKIEST) schedule in 1A this year.

no disrespect to MASE, i'm sure they're good. but they're not one that should be talking about other people's schedules.

Halls hasn't beat anybody that is even considered decent and lost to a few teams that are average at best.

they lost to Peabody and Lake Co, then a private school. who is the "average at best" you're referring to?

don't get me wrong, i'm not saying halls is amazing, but i think it'll be a better measuring stick for MASE than the teams they've been playing.

Explain this to me .Nothing against teams in the top 10.But how in the world would McEwen be picked over Lake Co?They lost to Dresden which I understand.Lake Co loses to Haywood. So who lost to a tougher team? McEwen lost to Camden.Lake Co lost to Union City.Who lost to better team?McEwen lost to Gleason.Lake Co lost to Trenton.Who lost to stronger team? Both at 5-3 from What I saw in standings.Am I missing something?LC scrimmage Camden and won about 8tds to 1.That shows voters have no clue comparing McEwen losses to Lake County's.

they have to be looking at the schedule at least a little bit. i would assume the red bank game is what pushed fayetteville over mckenzie
