The Peewee program has helped turn the junior high program around. This is just the start of the talent that is on its way to the high school program. This is just the start of the talent influx coming up to high school and junior high programs. These kids will have TC football back on top for a while once they get into junior high and high school.

I recall 2-3 years ago hearing something similar about Calhoun, Gregory, Gunter, Atwood, etc.

But you go ahead and cling to that hope.

No alarms yet, they already beat a good Lebanon team and Macon who was the preseason favorite. Just need  more offense, opening up the playbook.

    Upperman screams second round elimination.

Again, this LA team is really awful, and they hung in for 3 quarters.

Is this team really what we think they are? I mean they’re good but fayetville and livingstons combined record is 0-8 now. Macon and lebanon are quality wins but what should we expect when the bees play a very tough opponent. I’m not bashing the bees I’m just a little concerned

Livingston is one of the worst teams in Tennessee.  I'd be concerned.

with the coaches we got at HS....no future for these kids...Clint obviosly doesnt give a darn about sports....proved it multiple time already....not paying Creasy to stay...hiring his son over Dyer....etc...all of us TC people need to just realize....Clint is trying to get government money for academics and doesnt really give a shizzit about sports.....time for us to go to the ballots and geta new school board in that will get him out.

So, a DoS who wants good academics over athletics and you guys want him gone?

    Hilarious.

The type of kids in rural Smith County and rural Macon county are very similar. But the type/quantity of Cookeville is way different than what anyone else in the UC can get in 4A and under. It’s really simple but you don’t want to admit it for whatever reason.

regardless of the advantage, what Upperman has done in football especially is still impressive. They are a 8+ win team every year and that’s a gery good football program

To be perfectly honest, Upperman recruits the heck out of Putnam, and it has been a practice in Basketball and Football for over a decade.

The Mcwilliams transfer is a used phrase in Putnam county and Caine and Shanks have caught onto and have been using it recently.  There is also a few kids from Jackson, Smith, and Dekalb who are playing at Upperman.

Academically, the hs and middleschool has become a warzone because of stuff like this, but athletics wise, it's created a boom for sports.

Interesting to scrimmage RBS. Doesn’t seem to help you get ready for any of your regular season games. If anything, would schedule them in the regular season to get a win and maybe a breather from the grind of the season.  Scrimmage against them seems pretty worthless.

Not sure if you've seen TC lately, but even RBS ain't a guaranteed win.

Smith County will play in a substate game for the 1st time in 45 years. Credit definitely goes to the young ladies that are playing the game without a doubt. But it’s time Coach Ferrell is recognized for what he is. One of the very best coaches in this state!  What a tremendous job he has done in the short time he has been there. He HAS to be considered for Coach Of The Year in Tennessee.  Congratulations to Smith County and credit goes to the administration for hiring this very talented hard working Coach!

Dude is mediocre.  He's not bad, but he's not great.  Nowhere near coach of the year dude.  Plus, knowing who you are, he's a close personal friend to you, so a little bias there. He's no Mcwilliams, or Riddle, so settle down over there.

This same group at Martin and the same group at Huntingdon have played each other for years. Trading games back and forth. You continue to be wrong. Congrats to Upperman. And congrats to Martin on getting to play in the greatest middle school basketball tournament in the history of all middle school basketball tournaments. Ever!

Upperman head coach would love to play the haile champs.  Set it up.

Let's see how big of a gap.

I can only speak on the girls side, but the JCH has definitely been as good or better the vast majority of years than the TMSAA tournament. It does ZERO good for small schools (specifically) to join TMSAA as the travel to other schools of similar size is not only impractical, but also doesn't make sense. Pickett for example (who is not in TMSAA and never has been) would drive past every school in Fentress, Overton, Putnam and Clay in order to go compete with other teams that would not be as good as the teams they drive past...just so they could play a "TMSAA" school.

As far as the boys go, Algood and Upperman are the best two teams that I have seen this year and both are large middle schools compared to the vast majority of the schools around, especially in the UC! As good as Upperman is, Algood had them beat twice...phenomenal plays by Ty Cobb (who is the best player in the area athletically anyways) beat Algood both times at the very end. The other two were within 5 with multiple lead changes and all four of those games were as good as any middle school games that I have seen.

No, the girls side has not been better, you are being ridiculous.  Did you watch the tourneys for the girls the past 2 years?

You obviously don’t know anything about the teams or talent that was at JCH this season. That’s not surprising reading the things you post. Huntingdon boys could play with any team here and KY. They proved that on the floor. They sure didn’t duck any of the “big boys”. They went looking for them. When you have individual kid’s scoring 25-30 points a game in 6min quarters, you don’t dodge other teams. You must work for TMSSAA and didn’t get a raise this year.

Ha, they wouldn't be playing right now.  Dream on.

Nope, I watch jch, the quality is poor.  I mean geeze dude, 30-40 pt blowouts each round, sad..

I personally like the JCH tournament as it is the oldest MS tournament in the state. My daughter looks forward to playing in it each year and likes the idea that I also played as a 6th-8th grader in the tournament. It was a big deal to us as players many years ago and is still a big deal to current players. I can't imagine a MS post season without it.

Yeah, the legit post season is TMSSAA.

JCH is when you don't wanna play the big boys. The quality of play is ridiculous at JCH, it's like watching playground ball and a thousand turnovers, I watched a girls team last year where for a solid half the only person dribbling or shooting on one side was a single player.  No passing, just dribble up, fire, and that team won it all lol.

There are a lot of reasons that schools don’t join TMSAA. The two I’ve heard the most:

    1. allows schools to avoid TMSAA regulation on off-season workouts/practices

    2. allows schools to avoid a set district/region, which gives the school more control over schedule and travel

I’ve never heard of a middle school avoiding TMSAA because they didn’t want to deal with the competition. Not saying it couldn’t happen, but I’ve never heard it

Schools do not want to have to pay for certified refs.

Schools want complete control over their schedule and want to avoid other schools who could mop the floor with them ruining the personal of being a good athletic program.

Schools do not want to require what TMSSAA requires from schools and admin as far as dues, recordkeeping, admin attendance, facilties etc....

I honestly can not fathom you trying to tell people teams don't avoid competition on every single level in TN.  Have you even paid any attention to BB or FB in the past decade?  Jesus, just hang around Wilson Co, and get an education on how teams avoid competition to say they are good teams, MJ and Lebanon are a good start.

You lost all credibility with that line.  Be gone.

Schools that are not in TSSAA and TMSSAA choose not to.  Mostly to not have to compete and not have to be held to standards such as certified refs, and having admin personnel on site.  It costs next to nothing.  Sounds like your school is just areducking and dodging.  And saying only big cities can is idiotic, Pickett and Clay is TSSAA, have you seen Pickett county or Clay lol.

Thanks for the heads up. You seem to think that middle schools have hundreds of thousands of dollars to throw around for travel.  Well, they don't unless they are located in the counties with Knoxville, Chattanooga, Murfreesboro, Nashville, and Memphis. Most city schools in rural areas can't afford what the TSSAA affiliate requires with all of its requirements.

Ha, yes, those bustling metropolises like Carthage, Sparta, Lafayette lol.

I had to research this because I was surprised to learn that Westwood Middle School of Manchester with a 22-1 record would not be included in an "official" state tournament sponsored by the TMSAA like Coffee County Middle School, and the answer is that the James C Haile Tournament only brings in teams that are not members of the TMSAA. Schools have to meet certain criteria and pay dues to be TMSAA members, and it doesn't look like Westwood or any of the schools invited to the JCH State Tournament like Collinwood, Watertown, or Walter J. Baird of Lebanon did that.

Some of the teams you mentioned never will, they like pretending to be champs with weaker opponents.

  16. Haile is supposed to be for not TSSAA teams, and TMSSAA is for TSSAA teams.  Haile is kinda a joke recently because of all of the mismatches and blowouts.   Plus Haile winners talk about how they are state champions when they beat 3 teams from within 30 miles of them, lol.  Some teams choose to stay non TSSAA just so they don't have to compete on an even playing ground, and can still have a shot at calling themselves state champions.

It’s cyclical. I remember when Mt Juliet was one of the best teams in the state and Wilson Central had some good teams as well. Go back even further to Shelbyville and White County in the 90s and early 2000’s. The Rutherford County teams have benefited from the AAU circuit and their ability to recruit players. Last I checked Lebanon has had a decent run as well. In the end it all gets settled on the floor in Murfreesboro as it should.

MJ has been awful a while, so has WCS.  Cookeville is class and will run to the semis, and Lebanon is an easy out, and not a team any decent team should worry about, undiciplined, selfish, and already imploding under the massive ego of the players and coach.
