Ineligible player is a head coach problem, not a JJ problem. Defense allowed 44+ in 6 of the 8 losses. Spin it how you need to, sure the offense numbers weren’t there. Let’s not confuse that defense with the 85 Bears either. If you’re going back 4 years when JJ is fresh off a state championship. Not much to complain about. Your complaint should be that his offense didn’t score 45+ a game.

    Understood, Josh.

Many can say Matt runs the show. I don’t doubt that he has a heavy say in offense and defense. CAK, like mentioned earlier in this post throw JJ in year one under the bus but those defensive number might want to get revisited by anyone talking CAK 2018.

The defense caused them to be held to less than 20 on seven occasions? Interesting. And the defense caused them to forfeit due to an ineligible player? How about the blatant cheating that forced the board to remove him from the program? Not a surprise that they improved when he left.

    Again, an interesting take.

Let's just hope this HVA hire is better than the last one, as they haven't exactly been setting it on fire the last few years.

Absolutely agree, West Knoxville football is better when HVA is competitive. I do think Potter will add a ton of experience to Josh’s staff on the defensive side. He will need the help.

Not questioning the hire for HVA, but Oak Ridge didn’t promote him. If he was a home run hire he’d be at Oak Ridge as the HC. He also doesn’t have a state championship win on his resume, Josh does.

Not taking anything away from Josh, but we all know who runs the offense at Powell. And… you would’ve had to be a moron to not be successful with the talent on that roster. He has such a small sample size because of his inexperience, but he didn’t exactly light it up at CAK in 2018. Not to mention having to vacate a win, and being asked to leave.

Agree on the remains to be seen part.

Just interesting to me that FHSalum mentions a few times how well the HVA admin handled their opening and then refers to the new BHS hire as a "bookie." Me thinks he dost protest too much.

Pretty clear that the Jeff Miner hire is a home run compared to Jones. He’s been a high school coach for nearly two decades at one of the premier programs in the state. Jones has been a little league  coach for the bulk of his “career” He’s only coached high school football for four years. Seems to me like HVA was willing to make things happen to get their guy. Bearden was hamstrung into hiring a community coach like it’s inner-city memphis.

What about the last few seasons at Powell(I’m guessing he went there after 2018)? It seems like he has had pretty good success there, they’ve been an offensive powerhouse.

Not taking anything away from Josh, but we all know who the real offensive mastermind is at Powell. The guy in the big seat. I think that Derek Dooley could take those boys at Powell and be an "offensive powerhouse." All scheme looks good when you have superior talent.

Not sure who this question is posed to but I’ll take the bait.

I’m honestly not sure. I didn’t know he was ever at CAK.

Yes I understand he was the OC for Mozingo. They struggled mightily from looking at the scores. I was wondering if anyone had the story on how he got there, what happened and why he left. I always thought a place like that would be a good fit for him or a Kevin Lane type.

  8. This sets a dangerous precedent for the hiring of head football coaches in KCS. Basically they are saying that your level of education, background in the field of education and experience working with kids is irrelevant. This guy could quit in May and leave this team high and dry for an opportunity to coach rec league again. My boy would not play in a program like that. Sad day for KCS athletics.

  9. Page 43 of 2021-2022 TSSAA Handbook:

    Q. Can a non-faculty coach or a classified employee be a head coach?

    A. Yes. Provided they have successfully completed the NFHS “Fundamentals of Coaching” and “First Aid, Health, & Safety for Coaches” courses OR the ASEP Coaches Education Course in a TSSAA-approved course combined with the TSSAA Online Coaches Training Session prior to May 15, 2013 and have been proper submitted to the TSSAA office.

Article I, Section 9 of the TSSAA Bylaws states the following:

    1. Classified Employee – Any individual employed by a member school or school system in a position that does not require a teaching license or the equivalent. A Classified Employee must be employed 30 hours or more per week in a non-coaching position and may not be an independent contractor or an employee of an independent contractor.

Does a HFC have to be a classified employee in the school building?

Will the county approve the recommendation?

I will come back and eat crow if I am wrong, but you would think that KCS would require him to at the very least be involved in the building as a TA in order to approve the hire. Who will manage all of the academics/discipline/culture/recruiting/etc during the school day while JJ is out doing... well whatever he does during the day?

If he’s on the list it’s who you hire and he tells you no. Only hang up for JJ would be leaving the guys he started with years ago at Powell their SR year.

He should contend for another title at Powell next year. That would be very tough to leave, I imagine.

Not sure it's going to be done that quickly.  I was told it will likely be more like after school dismisses for the holidays.

They interviewed four candidates on Saturday and fell behind so they decided to split the panel into two parts to get through the interviews faster (wow would be an understatement). Bradley and an out of state candidate have their second interviews today. I don't see them drifting from Bradley since this is what the booster club has wanted since October from what I have been told. This will be done before school is done for the term on 12/17.

If Bearden wants Cummings they better work fast. From what I’ve been hearing on my perch at West High, Oak Ridge is wanting him bad.

Scott is no longer interested in the Bearden position and never really was from what I have heard. He did not interview for the position. Rusty is a serious candidate from what I have been told. Pickins are slim for this job.
