Doesnt matter who I am, but NO I am not Coach Starr but he kept good numbers and the community speaks highly of him. Howard being overcrowded has nothing to do with the fact that this coach cant keep a staff and kids dont want to play for him. Look at the real issue instead of trying to take up for the person who is the problem. There are currently 3 coaches in the building that coached with Maffett before who refuse to be on his staff. That my friend has nothing to do with the school its because of the poor leader of the football program. Have a good day Coach Maffett

Please STOP IT!!!! It is coaching!!! Nobody else numbers are hurting. Boys soccer has the numbers, Baseball has the numbers, girls basketball has the numbers, boys basketball has 3 teams, he is the only one with a lack of participation. Like the other post above says other schools are getting beat and not complaining only this guy

Howard and people close to Howard need to tell the truth!!!! and that is kids do not want to play for the current coach. These are pure FACTS!!! No other sports participation is down. As a matter fact all them have grown. This coach has not only lost players but coaches have left him too.

Dear Howard School the shrine of my devotion!!!! Since when did we start crying!!!!! Man up and play and quit all of the excuses....They had no season ending injuries those players are not playing because of the new coach! In the article it was said how competitive they were in 4a well its not like this 5a district they are playing in is that tuff.....They cant even beat Hixson, Brainerd, Boyd, Tyner which are all smaller division schools at some point they have to realize they hired the wrong guy...and its plain to see because I assure none of his former players or maybe even the current players will come to say they really want him.

I think his claim to fame was how many kids he had sign and that he made the playoffs 4 of 5 years....And there is no way you can fix your mouth to say that Jamichael Young was an addition by subtraction when he was a 4 year starter at the time....another 3 year starter opted to not play this year as well.... middle linebacker went from all state to his coach not even mentioning him an any team write up. So if you think its not coaching conflicts something is wrong with you my friend

Where did you get this information from? They were young 2 years ago when they qualified for the state playoffs. They are not a young inexperienced team. Last year all of the seniors quit on the coach and this year if you watched the brainerd game you can tell the coach has a problem #9....This all falls on coaching...Yes they are in a tuff classification but to have only 30 players and you have the most African American kids in the county in your building says this staff just cant get kids interested in playing

Howard football looks really bad! The new coach wasnt even a proven leader/winner. He should have never been hired. The boys are suffering and a alot of them have quit on this guy. The crazy thing is that this team has lots of talent!!!

tSSAA has been made aware of these things even them playing a player that was not eligible and they did nothing.....they just take the schools word for it and turn a blind eye

Why hasn't Tyner been looked at for violations? Saw Recently that another kid cropped his jersey and placed Tyner on it. This coach has a track record for getting transfers in. He was once an assistant at Brainerd and they got alot of transfers. Since he has been gone from Brainerd now Tyner has the transfers. Does this coach not want to compete? How is he allowed to cheat when these kids are not moving and Tyner is a magnet school....their zone is small.
