  1. Yes City’s defense has given them a chance in many games this season. When you get a turnover, throw 3 screen passes and punt most of the game you’re not going to win.
  2. Watched the Forrest and Upperman games. My opinion City loses this game by 2 scores minimum. SC is well coached, kids play with tremendous effort across the board. They are very disciplined and speed everywhere. MC won’t be a match for this team if they survive ER either. I don’t think that will happen anyway. City dressed 26 players against MC because half the team was injured by the time they played. City dominated them for 3 quarters and in my opinion the OC cost them the game with his questionable play calling and botched fake punt in 4&1 that they could have picked up in wild cat. OC coaches scared and screen passes won’t cut it, probably one of the worst Coaches I’ve ever witnessed as far as scheme and using his talent. Signal caller has been prone playing terrible in big games. McKenzie last season City had to run wildcat because he was completely overwhelmed with the gravity of the game. They were a bobbled catch away from losing to Forrest. I haven’t witnessed any progression since last year. I would almost argue he’s digressed this year. I think the speed and rush will do the same this week. The receivers at City have made him look better than he is at times. At this level of football he should be shredding defenses apart with his rating, not missing wide open receivers across the field. Last 3 weeks City has had multiple TD’s called back for movement pre-snap, offsides penalties, #8 has averaged at least a fumble in each game he’s played RB. That kind of stuff loses these games. City defense has been prone to get beat on deep passes and often get misaligned or bite on fakes. (Marion County loss) SC made it hard for Upperman to do much after the first drive, I think their QB is better than Willoughby and throws better on the run. SC completely shut down Forrest with speed and hustle. City tends to play hard for a quarter or 2 then loaf around. This is the best skill position team besides Marshall County that City will have faced, possibly faster with exception of 1 guy at Marshall County being recruited by Ole Miss that made them look like a peewee team. The plus I see for city is SC’s line isn’t the best. No attack and stand straight up on the line. It will be close for a few quarters but I think the defense wears down later in the game. Mistakes, missed receivers, and bad playing stop many drives early. I hope I’m wrong, but I call how I see it. SC 28 City 8.
  3. Yes, Tullahoma won by a score. It felt like City was holding back a lot due to some younger guys learning plays, honestly not really sure they weren’t clicking on offense. A lot of inaccurate passes. City’s Varsity was pushing to tie up when they pulled the plug and put in JV. Last night City looked like City, opened it up more and it wasn’t close at Lincoln County and hitting on all cylinders. They have a mountain to climb before 2a play even starts.
  4. Fayetteville City 36 Franklin County (5a) 13 at Fayetteville. City overall team speed looks better than last year. This team is just as big as last season. I would guess they have between 55-60 players overall. A couple of the upcoming Sophomore and Junior Lineman have grown. 3 or 4 of them are minimum 6’3”. They return their 6’ 5” left tackle from last season. The inexperience showed at times, but with more reps they should improve. Line still playing physical and attacking even without their Coach from last season. Having a 6’6” mobile QB helps with those mistakes, but his accuracy seems to be an issue at times down the field. Several balls over or under thrown, late throws into coverage. City has 2 underclassman playing skill positions that are very fast and shifty with two larger receivers playing inside 6’1” and 6’3”. City returns their top receiver and QB from last season as well. They need to work on getting the ball down the field to open receivers. City had receivers wide open down the field and kept checking down and/or inaccurate passes. Timing just seemed off between the receivers and QB at times. Practice can fix that. Overall not bad first scrimmage but still a lot to work on before week 1. Defensively a lot of speed on the field but City wasn’t maintaining gaps at times and FC had a couple good runs on them. Also one of FC’s touchdowns City had 10 players on the field missing FS so gave up a big TD pass. City also had a pick 6 called back for block in the back on the return. Big mental errors. Note: City does have a kicker this season and kicks extra points. Next Friday August 4th Tullahoma (5A) will be at City.
  5. Not anymore he's back at RB. Took a carry 93 yards on Dresden for a TD.
  6. 3-1/2 hours or so. Around the same distance to McKenzie.
  7. Yes we can kick extra points but teams have a hard time stopping 9, 1 and 14 on the 2-point conversions. My son told me they will continue this trend until someone can stop them. I guess it’s a good problem to have. I’m not worried about the McKenzie, Peabody, Mase etc. I know we will play to our ability in those games. It’s the Gleason, Dresdon type games. We have a bad habit playing down to competition sometimes. MC our kids weren’t focused, kept being told they were going to boat race the Raiders. Coach said it was our worst week of practice all season.
  8. It was sloppy but it’s not like we were locked in. Huntland was trying to get our kids to fight. We ran the same play in the redzone 3x until we finally caught it. The refs were a mess and they spent a total of 7 minutes while the clock was running in the 2nd half discussing the flags that were thrown. There wasn’t many plays during the 3rd/4th quarters. I just assumed they(refs) didn’t want to run anymore.
  9. I counted KJ as one of the best guys out. We was maybe 60% in that game playing while recovering from high ankle sprain. At 100% committed/healthy he’s every bit as good as 7 at McKenzie. 1 is looking good this year. He’s definitely improved, you can tell he’s working hard. It’s paying off, hope some college gives him a chance. He seems like a good kid. Humble and runs hard!
  10. No way City loses unless our team doesn’t physically go to the game. I’m not so sure City and MC won’t play again. I think the upset in the playoffs will be MC over McKenzie. Before the people come out with torches, McKenzie needed a 95 yard TD negated and a bad PI on 4th and long to pull off a win on the hill last year against a 1 dimensional offense with our 2 best players minus 9 being injured, 59 messed up his ankle a few plays into the game and nobody is blocking that kid I don’t care who were playing. MC in 2022 might have beat 21’ City. I don’t think McKenzie has improved at all from last year but they are consistent and their signature win is over a 2a team. We lost to 2 teams in 21’ one beat us by 4 touchdowns last year and we mercy ruled them a few weeks ago. I’ve watched some McKenzie games and they don’t look 4 touchdowns better than last year. We’re talking Quarterfinal/Semi 4a teams not 4-5 last in the region 4a teams. It should be interesting to see how things play out, obviously if guys are able to stay healthy becomes a factor later in the playoffs.
  11. Yes, that's all very true. Yes, the playing has been mind-boggling at times. MC game was a terrible to start and so was Upperman. I can't fathom why throw a screen when #1 averages 6 yards a carry. You have athletes all over the field and try to throw passes in the backfield, it's just bad game plan. Put the ball down the field and loosen the Defense, then run them out of the stadium. I miss KJ in the backfield. I think he and #1 make a good 1, 2 punch.
  12. Tell yourself whatever you want if it makes you feel better. It's the truth, no shade. He's talented no doubt but it only gets you so far. I wish him the best, I really hope he gets it together. Having adversity in your life isn't a free pass and it doesn't mean you get things handed to you. 1 worked in the offseason, he deserves to be RB1. I know exactly what the kids been through, and I know exactly what he's done too.
