First that was a horrible example.  In this situation the player can choose to go to another school if the School Board and principal accepts the transfer.  If the student that transfers has an athletic record with the TSSAA and still living in the same zone (even if it two doors down) and attending a different school the student athlete must sit out 365 days since his last participation in that sport and then would be eligible.

You don’t have to sit out, that’s the thing Boo Carter just exposed that down in Chattanooga maryville got a quarterback transfer last year by Tsaa rule he should’ve sat out, but he didn’t he played. I don’t know how it works. Don’t know why it works, but it works.

Here is your problem, TSSAA doesn’t have the authority to govern how a school district does their zoning or how they have their transfer rules.  That would be a massive Lawsuit that the TSSAA would lose in a heart beat.

That’s not what I’m talking about.

let’s say a player from Hardin Valley moves like two houses down he still lives in the Harden Valley zone. However, he can pick whatever school he wants to as long as it’s in the 20 minute drive.

So you are saying that the majority of dominate players that West has had over the years have come from the “Bearden zone”? I can think of a few dominate players from Halls, Gibbs, and Bearden but for the most part, I think the majority have come inside the West zone. I’m not saying that there is not a zoning issue in Knox County, as that is an entirely different thread.

yes, there’s a massive problem, zoning rule in Knox County and only the TSSA Can fix it however, as long as it’s broken, every School is going to use it to their advantage so don’t get mad at the coaches or the players or the parents get mad at the people running this operation.

What exactly have all these great Bearden MAC teams gotten the HS? 7-5? 0-1 to start the new year? I don’t really care what Coach Jones and Bearden do. If kids want to play at Bearden, by all means, go for it. But please don’t act like Bearden isn’t bringing kids in from out of the Bearden “zone”.

Oh, I’m not saying he doesn’t. I thought that was common knowledge, but he definitely does do that, but I’m just saying the bearded middle school team has been great for many years, and as soon as they get to high school, they transfer out, or before they even get to high school, and Coach Jones stepped in as soon as he stepped in. He stopped letting that happen, and it still has. The Bearden and Middle School teams lost a lot of players to West Catholic, etc., but not as many as they usually do, and that’s why a lot of coaches and Knoxville and parents, at least from my experience as an outsider looking in, don’t like Bearden High School because for schools like West, the Bearden zone used to be free picking, but now it’s a lot harder thanks to Jones.

Go easy on him BC, his time in your neck of the woods didn't go so well and he's still sour

They should’ve played in the Mac championship, but somehow Gibbs won and then Bearden took care of them but it would’ve been so fun seeing a Bearden Mac versus Alcoa Mac in the championship two very dominant teams in that league.

Eli came thru the Alcoa school system....been wearing Alcoa colors for a long time.

He has faced Bearden many times in MAC Championships.

PHOTOS/VIDEO/ANALYSIS: Alcoa Middle takes MAC Championship, 56-22, over Bearden - Five Star Preps

    And won!

Yeah, yeah, you don’t have to remind me of that game, and hey, one of the best bulldogs during that game, Joe, is now at Alcola. Isn’t that convenient, but still, Eli Owens played many years of his youth, in Maryville red. and then Alcoa came knocking, and we know the rest is history, so don't try to deny the fact that Alcoa doesn't recruit youth football players, you know better than that.

Oh, and also in the Bearden zone, they have produced some absolute dogs, which other schools have taken to not just private schools (West, Maryville, Alcola, etc.), and Coach Jones put a stop to that, and I know that has fated a certain coach(s) at a certain school that Bearden just played because the Bearden high school zone used to be their zone for football. It’s not anymore, and that’s another reason why a lot of people have strong hatred toward Jones.

Hardin Valley is also going to do this one day, and I wonder what people are going to be calling the coach because he will put a stop to schools taking all of their players. I wonder if they will start calling him a cheater or a recruit.

It’s pretty funny because that’s what everyone was saying about this time last year, so maybe you should take your little conspiracy hat off and look at reality. Nothing’s going to happen because nothing is going on, and if anything is going on, I hate to break it to you. Bearden is not the first school in Knoxville to do it, if anything, they are just joining a pool of already established recruiting schools, but it just seems people can’t accept that. I don’t know enough about the Bearden situation to talk about it, but I know what other schools in Knoxville do, they recruit them young, they get to the parents in Little League, they promise a great education and a free pass to college, and that’s how schools get people like Eli Owens, CJ Smith, etc., but I’ve seen Bearden doesn’t do that, they cut the middleman and start grabbing people from middle school or other schools, so I don’t understand the hatred for Jones. Other than Coach Jones cuts the middle man, every other school in Knoxville does recruiting, and when I say every other school, I mean every school except maybe 2-3 in Knoxville and surrounding areas.

It’s all staying off message boards until Bearden wins some district games. As soon as that happens I’ll tell you that some people are going to look pretty silly on Kingston pike.

what’s probably going to happen is they won’t win enough district games and this all gets carried over to next year.

it’s hard to build a program when you got people on the inside turning you in. That’s all I’ll say.

I think this might be a question best answered by Josh Jones the HC at Bearden in Knoxville. Maybe you can get him on one of his Rocky Top teams and eventually become a Bulldog.

Bro, you have a weird obsession with Josh Jones. And the Bearden MAC team has been good way before he got there—runners up in 2019, they won it in 2020, runners up in 2021, and they won it in 2022—so I don't know how you think Coach Jones has anything to do with the middle school team, but you are crazy obsessed with that man.

Honestly? Your guess is as good as mine. Center Grove is similar to Oakland in that they have dominated Class 6A in Indiana, winning 3 consecutive titles. They also have a 3/4 star qb committed to Duke and they're not gonna be happy after St. Edward beat them up pretty good.

I do think it's a good move on Creasy's part leaving Thursday night. Kind of a shame that this is only a 1yr contract. TN doesn't get enough of these elite teams coming in.

Gut feeling is Center Grove wins, but I felt the same way when Oakland went to MRA and they had their way with them

This isn’t a matchup between Oakland and Center Grove. This is a matchup between Tennessee high school football and Indiana high school football! Let’s go patriots!!

A matchup between two in state power houses.

More than anything I want to see the defense improve from the game vs Clinton. Mcminn runs the wing -t and doesn’t pass the ball much at all.  But they have a very athletic RB that can run. If Clevelands defense plays better, I like the offense to score a lot. I’m gonna say Cleve 38 Mcminn 21

As much as I hate to see my alumni loose to School like Cleveland, gimme Cleveland 28-10

Alcoa wins this one, then AC.?  Good luck with that.  O-2, 0-3?   Party may be over before it ever got started at BHS.  Nice roster, but there is alot more to it than good players.

They are definitely not losing to Anderson County:lol:

    Bearden starts the season 0-2

I’m not gonna lie, if they would’ve beat West, I would say they are probably going to get killed by Alcoa, but since they lost to West and in probably the worst way possible, I feel like the bulldogs are going to be out for blood. It’s not an easy opponent, of course, but I mean, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

What’s the over under on how many games it takes before someone hands TSSAA some real proof on what’s going on at Bearden.

Jones kinda reminds me of one of those crazy coaches on last chance U. That will do or say anything during the heat of a moment.

Well, I hate to break it to y’all, but there would be a lot of schools in Knoxville, and in surrounding areas that will go down way before Bearden does.

Best athletes are in Memphis.  The best Football in Tennessee is the Mid State. Williamson and Rutherford County are really strong.  But! The MidState Private is Nationality ranked for a reason.  How strong is the Big Privates? Catholic was winning State Titles in 5A. Catholic still has great athletes.  They are getting taken to the woodshed a lot in the Big Privates division.

    Agree

Bearden vs. West is always a good game, but this year this game seems to mean a little bit more.

Saturday at 12 in the morning on ABC and on the rivalry showcase should be a good game or a blowout for both teams, but I can’t see it happening.

This is the first time in a while that these two teams are playing, and West is the underdog, but I think the underdog wins this one. I believe in Bearden, but I think West has been quiet all offseason, and I think that’s for a reason, from what I heard, that got the QB situation dealt with, so I think Bearden is a very good team but West will just be too much for them. I got West winning 30-20.
