I have heard the old saying that you could throw a flag on almost any play in football if you look hard enough, and that was certainly true last night at Smyrna. I don't know the exact numbers for the game, but at one point Brentwood was flagged on 5 or 6 sequential plays, though some were declined by Smyrna. While I am not saying there was absolutely no fault involved, I did see that only Brentwood's offense, an occasionally it's defense, was heavily penalized. Smyrna's team is younger and less experienced than Brentwood's, and I find it hard to believe that they were that much more composed on the field. It truly seemed that Brentwood was being picked on by the officiating crew. The end result of the flag-flurry was a fired-up defense that rose to the call, held Smyrna's offense and blocked a field goal attempt and later a punt. I don't know if there are plans to lodge an official complaint about the crew, but I hope someone does.
